This is a solid spot for sushi! We were seated in an "on the floor seating" area which was a unique and a nice experience for me. I do recommend this spot!

They have fantastic lunch specials- my go-to order is the chicken wakadori- either as the bento box for lunch or the classic dinner. The lunch bento box comes with rice, gyoza, soup and either a california roll or a cucumber avocado roll. The dinner comes with soup and salad and a few tasty noodles that have a sesame oil essence. I also love the yellowtail jalapeño sashimi appetizer. Cozy interior- great for dine in or takeout! It's also BYOB with a $2/per person fee. There is floor seating in addition to tables/booths with fast and friendly service. *tip: Campus Fine Wines is right up the street if you want to grab some beer, wine or sake- just remember, liquor stores close early on Sundays in Rhode Island.

I finally came around to trying Sakura in Fox Point and was so impressed with the quality of fish and presentation. I got the lunch special that came with two rolls, one salmon nigiri, and tuna nigiri. Highly recommend!

This is an east side/ Wickenden staple. It has been serving for over 20 years. Fun floor seating, great BYO drinks.

We went kinda hard for sushi night last week, & Sakura absolutely nailed it. We ordered: - Hot Babe Roll - Tiger Roll - Spicy Tekka Roll - Spicy Hamachi Roll - Avocado Cucumber Roll - Rainbow Roll We called at 6:30 & the person on the phone estimated that the order would be ready in 30 minutes. We arrived in about 20 minutes, & our order was ready. It's hard to pick favorites, because all of the rolls were SO good, but I think the Hot Babe Roll, the Rainbow Roll, & the Avocado Cucumber Roll came out on top. "But an Avocado Cucumber Roll is so boring, how could it be your favorite?" ... You may ask. Well they always use perfectly ripe avocado, it's rolled tightly, & it's so fresh. It's the perfect palate cleanser between other specialty rolls. No Sakura order is complete without an Avocado Cucumber Roll. It's also $6.00 so, why not?

I've been so on the fence about posting, because for almost a decade Sakura was my favorite lunch spot in Providence, but ultimately the illness I got after eating here warrants this review. The last time I came here I ordered the sashimi dinner. It came with several kinds of raw, "fresh" fish. I noticed that the tuna looked particularly vibrant in color, but-- because I have come here so often and for so long-- I brushed this off and ate it anyways. I now suspect that the tuna was colored to cover up for the fact that it was spoiled. Within hours, I started feeling off. What ensued was nearly 50 hours of fever, vomiting, body aches, and general disaster. "Acute food poisoning." I have never been so sick. I will never go back. When I recovered, I called to inform them but was unable to reach a human. I will never recommend Sakura again. I don't know what's going on in the kitchen, but it cannot be code compliant. This one experience was so terrible it has cancelled out the years of lunch specials, dinners, and birthday parties I have had here. Be warned.

I consistently crave Sakura's sushi! Last visit I ordered the Lunch Bento, which costed only $18 for shrimp, rice, dumplings and a roll. I think a pretty good deal! My food was delicious I always find the shrimp here so good. The sushi is fresh and the Red Sox roll is always a hit! My family and I always enjoy the floor seating option, which gives the meal a whole new experience. Staff are always nice also.

I had high hopes for my lunch here but it missed the mark. First off, it was around noon on a weekday and the restaurant was mostly empty (maybe 3 tables including mine) but I heard the phone ringing and people coming in and going out so I'm guessing they were focusing on takeout orders. A table of 3 near me received their food and very slow waves. Their sushi took forever. They were vocal amongst themselves on how unhappy they were with the service and I can't blame them. It was extremely slow and basically nonexistent. I ordered the Kari udon or curry udon with chicken. There were so many vegetables I could barely pull the noodles out from underneath to eat them. Also there were so many vegetables it was like a blanket over the broth and the broth had no chance in hell to cool and so I burned my mouth the entire time I ate it because I had to get back to work and had already been waiting a while for me food and had to time to waste quite frankly. Additionally, it was only so-so. I was not very impressed and thought the food I had was pretty forgettable. I wouldn't really bother coming back, which is sad because like I said I had high hopes.

First time trying the jalapeño yellowtail. It was super light and definitely would order this again. We come here specially for the squid and scallop nigiri. Salmon teriyaki was bomb. Udon Suki was also light and flavorful.

i've been down wickenden sooo many times and can't believe i never paid attention. what a cute cozy sushi spot. i regret not doing floor seating but will next time! our server was so kind and patient with us as we kept ordering and deciding in between plates if we wanted more. i will say the savory entree was okay, no regrets, but not the main star of the show. the sushi was definitely fresh and yummy. miso soup was also a good warm option to open up with. also their tea came in a tea bag so i asked for miso soup instead and they were really nice about it. will be back :)

3.5 stars Decent sushi with a cute interior. I tried the crab rangoon, shrimp shumai, and the four seasons roll. Sushi was better than the apps, in my opinion. The crab Rangoon were small and quite light on the crab. The shrimp shumai were a bit soggy with a strong orange sauce that tasted artificial. The four seasons roll was tasty, but I wish they didn't pound the spicy salmon so much, but I guess that's the nature of spicy salmon. There wasn't that much mango in the roll, but it was tasty regardless. The interior was really cute and would be good for a date. They also have this room for larger parties with cool seating. Overall, this place is one of the only sushi restaurants around fox point, and it definitely scratches the sushi itch.

Great sushi and in a very pretty spot. They have a wide selection of sashimi and good miso.

Spicy Maki dinner, Spicy Hamachi roll, and Spicy Scallop roll - definitely not made by a real chef... what a joke

The food is great and the staff is friendly. I'm not a fan of giant tv's at restaurants and that's why we stopped going.

From soft drinks, green tea, iced coffee in a can, Japanese pickles, frozen fish and delicacies, etc. The way food isle is arranged, I think, is also very "Japanese" in an authentic way, as if I am back in Japan. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, even though I personally do not need help in translating the Japanese labels to English, whenever my wife goes there, everyone is very helpful. She works only a few blocks away in Downcity, so going there to shop or eat is super easy. She does not have to find parking there when she can simply walk there. We often go there to have our favorite - katsudon and gyudon. She loves these donnuri dishes. I showed her how to make them at home, as they are super simple to make.

I was expecting it to be open later (that's why I took one star off). Luckily they had a hot plate for food: I got these chicken kabobs; luckily they had a microwave to warm it up. We found this sushi spot on our way back from my son's soccer game after seeing the high ratings…read moreand multiple posts advertising it as a top Yelp location. With a 4.6 rating, we were genuinely excited to try it. Walking in, first impressions were great. The inside of the restaurant was super cute, the artwork was beautifully done, and the initial greeting was welcoming. Unfortunately, things started going downhill pretty quickly after that. We had a few questions about the menu, but the hostess seemed confused and didn't really understand what we were asking, so we ultimately just gave up and ordered what sounded good. Food-wise, it was very mixed. The sushi roll was phenomenal...genuinely the best part of the experience, and my son absolutely loved his. The shrimp udon was okay, but the portion was noticeably smaller than what most sushi places serve. The salmon poke bowl was very basic and honestly underwhelming. I also asked for spicy mayo, which was never brought out. The biggest disappointment was the service. Paying $4 for a canned soda with no refills already felt excessive, but when my son accidentally spilled it, we cleaned it up immediately ourselves. No one offered extra napkins, replaced the plate, or even asked if we wanted another drink. It just felt inattentive from start to finish. To make matters worse, one staff member was sitting at the bar listening to something loudly on a laptop, which completely took away from the atmosphere and felt unprofessional. As someone who used to waitress, I understand the service industry and I'm usually a generous tipper. But I also believe tips reflect service, and unfortunately this experience missed the mark. After picking up our receipt, the hostess was visibly unhappy with the tip amount and had no issue making that clear which only reinforced the poor experience. I very rarely leave one-star reviews, but for a place with a 4.6 star reputation and "top-rated" marketing, this was incredibly disappointing. Cute atmosphere and one great sushi roll aside, the service and overall experience were just not what we expected.

The restaurant itself is dimly lit but inviting and hosts a large bar. We were sat close to there. I enjoyed our waitress and the server she was training. They offered prompt and kind service. There was also a meal deal where you could order a selection of sushi rolls, appetizers, or classic rolls for a cheaper price. For my dinner I ordered the spicy scallop, Samurai, and salmon with mango. They also brought out spicy mayo and eel sauce for us. The sushi is fresh, the portions are generous, and the ingredients are high quality. I thought the prices were reasonable as well.
