Sanit-Malo was the first of three walled cities on my visit to Brittany and Normandy when I was in France.
Arriving here by TGV from Paris, our guide gave us a map and suggested we walk the wall and see the historic church in the city. I did both and it's such a charming town.
It's historic for Canadians because it was from here the Jacques Cartier sailed and discovered Canada. There's a statue of Cartier along the top of the wall but somehow I missed it.
Large ferry boats go to the Jersey Islands and to the southeast of Britain and the area was under English control several times. It was explained to us that the language of Brittany is nothing like French. read more
