A nice Marks and Spencer store in Doncaster, while the store or product range can not compare to…read moretheir larger stores in larger cities, they still had a good selection of products in the Food Hall of most products you would expect to find in a Marks and Spencer store. I did find the checkout area to be a little tight, compact and messy, although the staff did seem pretty friendly. The Scan and Go app where the customer can use their phone to scan and bag their shopping as they shop around the store, and then pay, seemed to work well here. The staff around the store seemed friendly and helped me find a reusable bag when required. I do find the opening hours of the store to be very limited, especially considering, the branch is not located inside a physical shopping centre (It is located opposite the shopping mall), so the fact they close at 17:30 during the week is very disappointing, this is even earlier than Sainsbury's! The facilities inside the store are again limited compared to larger towns/cities, with no car parking or toilets. 3* - A nice store for a small town like Doncaster, yet not without its' flaws.

They've got a lovely selection of food on the ground floor and although it is rather pricey the food is lovely and it's pretty-much the only 'upmarket' supermarket in Doncaster. One of these shops where the staff really do seem to be interested and care about helping you - my 5* rating is based on that more than anything else. I was looking for something in a different size recently, and rather than the usual 'everything we've got is out' that you get in most places, 2 people bent over backwards to find me something else suitable - you don't get that sort of attention every day!

I rang the manager from my mobile and was told that they know there's a problem but don't know what to do about it! Inside, it's a fairly basic Tesco - not the largest range in the world but they are right in the town centre so space is at a premium. They do have Direct collection desks though which is handy if you're going to be in town anyway. If you travel by bus or train it's handy as the stations are both next door, and it's also handy if you just want to grab a sandwich while you're in town but otherwise I wouldn't really recommend it.

A small Sainsbury's store, located inside Frenchgate in Doncaster town centre, I was disappointed…read morewith this store overall as not only was I unable to get the products I was looking for but due to being located inside the shopping centre, the opening hours are heavily reduced, for example, they close at 7 pm during the week, I, therefore, think moving the store to a larger unit elsewhere in Doncaster town centre would be a much better idea going forward. The staff in the store seemed friendly and polite, especially because they seemed to be dealing with many customers looking for products which were "out of stock", I noticed one staff member be asked from three different customers and have to turn them away, which was a shame. They do have Smartshop which is helpful, as it allows you to scan your shopping as you walk around the store, using a mobile device, bagging the items as you go. 2* - The store was clean and the staff are friendly, but due to limited stock and opening hours, it wouldn't be a store I would return to. I much prefer Marks and Spencer nearby.

This Sainsbury's is tiny, and although it's useful for picking up odds and ends while you're in…read moretown, it's not really practical at all for doing a main grocery shop. The instore layout is a bit cramped and the decor is very old fashioned - 1980s would be my guess. There isn't (unless I've missed it) direct access to the car park so you've got a bit of a trek with your bags of groceries back to the car. It is, however, really handy for the bus and train stations if you're using public transport. I suspect that this store will undergo some sort of refurb soon, as I just don't see how it can pay the way it is at the moment. I am a big fan of Sainsbury's but this one - while it serves a purpose - just isn't up to scratch I'm afraid.
