I had Tommy as my barber and my haircut was awesome and it is an old timey feel shop, so if your a liberal find some place to hang out while the boys get their haircut. I Love the ambiance of this place this is what I grew up knowing only on steroids, a lot of chairs and barbers and they seem to get along very well for the most part and if it looks busy, be patient it moves very quickly. My haircut came out very well my beard trim by Tommy not so much, if I were to make a recommendation see one of the younger fellas. I mean, if you want to listen to someone preach Q anon in some kind of manic panic...or listen to the owner spew his ego but not really respect what your thoughts are, this is a great place to frequent. Yes, the haircuts are superb and if that's all you want, then this is the place. I think my husband and son are done. We'd rather go someplace where we don't have to listen to right-wing conservative magamoronic chitchat. Trump's christians ain't got no sense no more. I'd stay out of there unless you don't mind misogynistic undertones sprinkled with Quack-anon conspiracy. Wow. Great cut for a fair price. Large barber shop with friendly barbers. On a busy day though expect to wait up to an hour.

New in town ,needed a hair cut. Called to make appointment and Tommy said none needed, come on down. Walked in, straight into the barber chair; no waiting. Being my first visit , I was a little concerned about the end result. Tommy did a great job. Usually the difference between a good and bad hair cut is about two weeks. Not so here. I don't like hair growing over my ears! I guess I was having a bad hair day! Stacey Peek of Green Eggs And Jam suggested I go across the street from his store and have Sain's cut my hair! The place was slammed with business but there were about 8 barbers so the line was moving along rather fast. I put my name on the waiting list and instead of waiting inside I went across the street and around the corner to visit "THE OLIVE" ! Had a great conversation with hostess Laura and other folks who were shopping ! I was there about 30 mins and when I went back to Sain's they were just about ready to service me! Kelvin C Phillips cut my hair and he did a fine job! I GOT BUZZED! Now I don't have to look into the mirror in the morning to know what I look like! Every time we go here seems the barbers are in a huge rush an truly just don't care about the hair cut. The only barber there that can actually do a fade is blue. We let Joe cut my hair and my boys and he gaped my boys hair an took 3 layers of skin off my neck. My neck is blood raw and is burning now as I type this review. It had been over a year since I had gotten a haircut, I waited four days on my local barber to either be open or have a slot available for me, finally I got tired of waiting and found Sain's. I drive an hour to get my haircut and it was by far one of the best haircuts I've ever had. I will continue to drive an hour every month to get a haircut at this place. Whenever I travel, I try to visit the local barbershop. While visiting my in-laws this summer, I desperately needed a haircut. My father-in-law recommended Sain's as it was a multi-generation family business and Morganton institution. As I have haircuts from hundreds of different barbers/hairdressers over the years, I have learned to appreciate the wide stylistic range (both technically and socially). Sain's legacy is apparent the moment you enter the shop. With at least 8 chairs and a line of 15+ people in the cue, it is clearly beloved by its community as well. Immediately upon entering, I was politely greeted, presumably by the owner (in the "first/window chair"). After waiting for roughly 15 min, I was called up by Kim. She was a delightful young woman who asked me how I wanted my hair cut and engaged me in a nice conversation. Throughout the haircut, she artfully used old-school techniques (e.g. straight razor, tonic treatment) that I have only read about. Presumably, this is standard practice at Sain's. Kim's presence was outstanding; she was meticulous, thoughtful, and I can say with absolute confidence that she provided the best haircut I have ever received! I cannot overstate how impressive this experience was, and strongly recommend you visit Kim at Sain's for your next haircut. I certainly will, during my next visit to Morganton. read more

All of the staff are good at what they do, and you can rest assured you will leave satisfied. Great place! Red, Sammy, Tommy, Kevin all give great haircuts in a traditional barber approach. Meaning they know how to fade, use a straight razor, trim beards, etc. This is a place you can feel comfortable that you will look good when u leave. I have never had a truly bad haircut here in over 20 years with multiple different barbers. A true gem in todays world of mens hair salons! No appointments here, walk-ins only. by far the WORST, most PAINFUL haircut experience I've ever gotten. I've never been so livid about a haircut before. the guy working on my head must've been having a bad day, because he left the back of my neck scratched up and BLEEDING EVERYWHERE. and it wasn't like an easy mistake he made, he was really going at my neck the whole time. the only saving grace was when he worked on the top of my head where he couldn't carve into my skin anymore. if you still want to get a haircut here for some reason, watch out for the 40 something year old with the dark hair and beard read more

I've been with my husband three times. All three haircuts were done very well. It was neat to see a barber shop use a razor. Christian music was always played. My husband has had services by two by females and one by the owner. I know men like to be men and it's a barber shop but the last time I was there, the shop owner made comments toward a woman as she was leaving with her three sons. He shouted out that he loved her (twiced) then proceeded to add "long time". Another male barber joined in and they both said it a couple times which they found quite humorous. I was shocked! I'm sure the mother of these boys did not deserve such treatment. (what woman does, let alone a patron of the shop?) My husband told me he one time saw the owner put a white napkin over his face implying white power, though he did not know the context of the "joke" -- I"m sorry but i don't see an appropriate time EVER to make such a joke. After witnessing the owner's disgusting disregard for a beautiful mother and her sons, and hearing other stories about his prejudice undertones, we will not be back to Sain's Barber shop. There were young men in there. My husband and I do not condone setting such examples for young men, and especially disrespect toward women like that. i don't care how good the haircuts are. My conservative values do not include, support, or tolerate these things. I've heard other stories about racial comments made toward middle easterners and african americans but they are hearsay to me so I will leave it for someone else to come forward with. read more
