I seem to have an in-depth knowledge of the small, cornershop variety of hardware stores in South Brum. I put this down to the fact that my first job was in Texas Homecare - a massive, warehouse DIY place - and I hated it with a passion. Even going in such a place these days, like B&Q or Homebase as they are now branded, gives me the absolute fear, so I'm much more likely to spend the extra few quid that means going local and small instead of stack-em-high, sell-em(not so)-cheap.
Saifee is one such place on my mental map of places that sell screws, gaffa tape, watering cans, decorating supplies, and the like. As with most such places, Saifee's is packed to the rafters with dusty stock, but you're almost guaranteed to find what you're looking for. He's not as cheap as Homebase, but at the same time he's not a soulless aircraft hanger with piped in muzak. You pays yer money and you takes yer choice. read more
