I needed .30 caliber copper gas checks for reloading cast bullets. I could find them anywhere between $65-$80 depending upon the business, for 1000. I could not find lesser quantities for sale anywhere. Mind you the cost did not include shipping. I had been using some very old Champion gas checks which were next to worthless.
After a lot of research, I found Gator gas checks which cost slightly less than Hornaday's. They did not show up on the usual search engines, but I did find them at Sage's Outdoors at a cost of $41.00 per thousand. They also sold the gas checks in lots of 500 and 250.
Sages also had another brand for $36.00 per thousand and their 258 count was about $10.50 + about $7.00 for shipping. I took a chance and in about a week I had them in hand.
These gas checks work great. Snapped onto the gas check recess in the bullet and crimped on with absolutely no issue. There was no issue in seating the bullet into the case either.
They seem to be an up front company, post quantities frequently on their website and explain any cost increase or shipping delays. There are aluminum gas checks available as well.
I will be going back to Sage's Outdoors soon for a larger order. read more
