The Brunnenaue was established by pastor Heinrich Christoph von Willich on church land (next to St…read more Michael) and later promoted by his brother Moritz von Willich Rügen island's state doctor at the time as the first spa and bathing institution on Rügen. It opened on July 4th 1795. Today it has been partially reconstructed and a memorial was created in 2007.

Situated right…read moreon the coast, this place offers a lovely view and is ideal for a small meander and a few hours of exploring. The main house was built by one of the richest guys of his time, later on it was used by the NVA (east germanies army at the time) as officers quarts. They built a larger base around it, although the old bunkers and ruined houses are slowly being recaptured by nature. One thing though, as it's "private" property - there are no warning signs anywhere: use your head and please don't walk into everything. The place hasn't been tended to in 30 years, at some points you notice how the floor sags when you walk inside the main buildings and as far as I could tell, the whole place is built on huge bunkers (so falling down would hurt).
