Worst customer service in bakery. -don't order your cake here. My cake turned out UGLY LOPSIDED and NOT what I ordered. I wasn't able to pick up my cake myself but I had a friend and even she said the cake looked horrible. They said they tried to return it but the gentlemen said we couldn't it's already had been ordered. If I could post pics I would. I'm flabber gasped by what I paid for and what I received $33 for an 8 inch lopsided cake and petite cake that did not look circular at all . I came here to get a few things I marked on my list when in the Bay Area. The egg prices were about $0.50 cents higher I went by the clearance got some croissants marked 50% off again in the Bat Area I've never had a problem with the 50% off I didn't feel the need to double triple check the dates, my fault for assumptions...looks like this Safeway likes to wait for items to be on their last breath of shelf life before marking down. As a baker I didn't even think to double check again "ass"umptions with ASS being the key word.. the croissants were packaged on the 6/27 sell by 7/1 i regrettably bought them on 7/1 again shame for not noticing the dates. Not worth the discount when your throwing half if not more into the trash! Rock hard bricks shame I had just gotten a pack at Milpitas Safeway at regular price but this Safeway left a lot to be desired not to mention waiting in line for extra 10 minutes while some lady got summers Eve feminine wash not Vagisil whoopy! made for a lovely time! This review is a 2 part review of my recent experience. I placed multiple calls this past Thursday 8/22, to the Floral Department. .The first 3 calls went unanswered after dozens of rings. The 4th call was finally answered after numerous rings (how do you run a business and not answer the phone). I spoke with a lady whose name was Elizabeth. I placed my order for a dozen roses arraigned in a vase and a birthday balloon bouquet. The order was placed and reviewed for a Sunday Morning pick up. I said to the employee is there anything else that I need to do to ensure the order will be ready. The reply was "do not worry as I will make sure it is done". Fast forward to Sunday 8/25..... I went to Floral Department for pick up and this is what transpired. No one was working in the department, so they paged someone from the produce department, who came to help. I said to her what I was there to pick up. She went to look and came back and said there was nothing there for me (mind you this was not of her doing). I immediately said to her this was unacceptable and I want to speak to a Manager. She paged Management 3 separate times in a span of 10 minutes and no one responded (how can you run a business like this?) Finally there was a young lady (Alea) who showed up and said how can I help you? She apologized for my situation (she obviously was told by management what had occurred) as she apparently was sent to the wolves to resolve the issue (management still was avoiding me). As I conclude THANKS to Alea for going above and beyond in correcting the problem. She was kind, pleasant, friendly, professional and very diligent in taking care of the problem. She is deserving of 5 Stars. However, the Management staff and Floral Management, should be EMBARRASSED for creating this mess and then hiding behind their mess! My final thoughts.... kudos to Alea and SHAME on the Safeway MANAGEMENT! read more

This isn't my go to grocery store, it's more the place I go when I need one or two items and I'm on this side of town. Actually the more I shop here the more I appreciate my regular grocery store. My biggest complaint here is the fact they are very slow to call extra cashiers when lines get backed up. At my regular store more than two people in line and they are calling cashiers to the front. It just takes too long to make your purchase here. Also in the bakery and dairy areas in the back of the store there are some tables and a refrigerated display case oddly placed creating a bottleneck for shoppers to maneuver through. The other thing is the meat/seafood department has an unidentified smell I don't notice in other stores. Having said everything above, they do have a good selection so I will continue to use this store as a convenience when I'm on this side of town and only need a few items. read more

First, this store does not have many variety of options for vegetarian/vegan meat alternatives and the ones they did have looked bad. Second, the checker kept talking about how she beat up a homeless lady who stole bread and wine from this store and that she had been there for 20 years. This is not okay. How would she feel if she became homeless hungry and someone did that to her. For the prices I pay at Safeway they have some shady staff who act super snobby but ghetto at the same time. Then the card reader was broken so I waited so long until I had to be taken to a different register. I would never go to the pharmacy here after seeing even more shady characters behind the pharmacy counter. I was about to get a cake from the bakery when this customer started yelling at Megan(I think that was her name) I have never seen someone treat an employee so terribly. I don't know how people can get away with bullshit like that. I hope a manager was able to comfort the employee from that because it was horrible. I just called this place to see what kind of fish they have since I'm coming all the way from Merced. The woman on the phone tells me she knows they have salmon and other fish. I asked if they have mahi mahi and she said they weren't sure. I'm like "no one can physically walk over to the seafood department to see what you have instead of me driving all the way over there???" This place is a reliable market. People working here on the other hand are a unprofessional . One time my friends and I went at night and the lady running the cash register said she had called the cops on suspicion that we were stealing, mind you we were at the cash register trying to pay for our items when she told us . We told her we would wait for them because we weren't stealing and she replied with more accusations telling us to leave the store. So we did and went to foodmax instead. read more

I called and called and no one answered. Needing to order a cake I drive over after work. The bakery closed at 7pm. I went to customer service to get the bakery hours. Multiple employees walked by as I was standing at an empty customer service desk but not one asked if I needed help. So I just called out to the cashier and asked if anyone was working in customer service. A bagger came to see if he could help but wasn't sure of hours so he got the attention of the customer service manager who finally came over to tell me the bakery closed at 7pm. After this experience I now understand why nobody answered the phone. The store is fairly decent but their customer service is horrible. I will definitely order the cake elsewhere. read more

Starbucks is basic, yes let's be honest especially inside a Safeway. HOWEVER, I have never seen so much seating inside a Safeway Starbucks! They even have a whole cafe seating area, safeway has free wifi, and there's lots more pastry selection. All the cups and thermos products aren't cluttered in the walk isle taking up space. If Davis had a large seating SB area like this one, Starbucks would be poppin! read more

I'm sorry to hear so many people of had bad experiences at Safeway. I shop here regularly with my mom and have had nothing but good experiences with good employees. If I've ever had a problem the staff has stepped up and reconciled the problem quickly and efficiently to my recommendations. They always have what I need and everyone I talk to that works there is always been pleasant, kind, and helpful. Safeway is my go to place and I truly enjoy the experience of shopping there. During Covid the staff was efficient ensuring the safety of those that came in and provided alternative for those that did not feel comfortable shopping inside by providing car side pick up through the shopping app. Even during times when things are hard to get Safeway always managed to have what I needed. Great job keep up the good work and to those of had problems I hope you reach out to Management and get them resolved so that you have a better experience. read more

Let me start off this review by saying that though this is a 1 star review, I got 5 star customer service from this older woman with glasses and brown hair in a ponytail, maybe her name was Valeria or something? NOW HERES THE PROBLEM: My father and I went to Safeway to grocery shop and went to the liquor section and found they were DISPLAYING AND ADVERTISING a 1.75L Black label Johnny Walker Whisky for $29.39. There were no other bottles of Johnny Walker and no other sizes next to it. The price tag was DIRECTLY under the boxes of whisky. So there was absolutely no confusion. HOWEVER, when we paged someone to help us and pay for the items, they rung up as $84.99 and then with the club card $55ish, when I brought up the issue, they said it was a mistake, which I UNDERSTAND, mistakes happen, but they were not even willing to HONOR their own mistake. It's not my fault your staff did it wrong, but if something is advertised as a certain price, I would expect a business as large as Safeway to honor it and not just say no. The reason why this is an issue to me is that if you go to Target, or Walmart or LITERALLY anywhere, I've NEVER had an issue showing the staff where the item was and it's price and they honor it. This was the first time it's happened to me. I understand it was a mistake, but you should honor the price tag, then immediately go change it. Customer is right. Not my issue you did something wrong. This store's Deli seriously disappoints. The soup counter was not stocked and was so dirty! It almost looked as if it was shut down for good...deli lady lady said the soups were "still cooking" and it's 11am! Then I ordered a drink and their drink machine is not stocked with soda. The deli lady says, "oh I'm sorry but the best we can do is allow for you to get a bottled soda from one of the fridges. " I finally sit down to eat my sandwich and the bread is super soggy. Safeway, just like any other grocery store is affordable if you shop the ads. They also offer Just For You savings, that bases personal coupons off of your prior purchases. This Safeway is clean & the employees are polite & helpful. Parking is always crazy because off all the other businesses in the area. I do wish they would offer some more organic & gluten free products. They definitely lack in this area. read more

I like to stop here while in Turlock. The store layout is like so many others. You can get in and find things in the same place more or less as your local store. The to go food area here has lots of sandwiches, salads, quick snacks, hummus, guacamole, heat up meals, protein boxes etc that make it easy to get a somewhat low cost, fast, yummy meal on the go. There are cold drinks too in another area and in front of check stands. There is a Starbucks too. Best part is self-check to get out fast read more

This is where I now shop the essentials for my pantry because it's the closest from our home. I like their Eating Right brands, from their turkey bacon, their salads, and most especially their pancake mix. I am happy with their meat deals and how the butchers help you out when you have questions about the cuts. We once availed of their steak rubs and boy, did we get a lot of compliments when we threw a grill party. The thing I noticed about this Safeway though is that they do not truly have an "express lane". Never mind that they do not have a couple of self-checkouts like many leading groceries have nowadays. Their express lanes become clogged up and often, too. That can really be annoying for shoppers who want to check out just a single item. I really hope management becomes sensitive about this issue. read more

There's a wide variety in all departments, and the staff always tries their best to be helpful. Cons: there's not enough staff coverage for the off hours (after 8-ish), and the lines get l-o-n-g. I placed an online order on Wednesday, July 1 for their lobster tails that was on sale. I scheduled for the order to be picked up by July 3 at 2pm. On Friday, I called to check up on my order as I'm 30 minutes away and not in the same town. I wanted to make sure my order will be ready by the scheduled time. The first lady I spoke with told me I don't have any order shown in their system. She had me on hold to get a manager or whoever he was. He also said there was no order under my order number. I asked him to check again. Maybe she entered the wrong order number. He checked again and my order was there, but nothing saying my order is complete. So, I drove out to the store and follow up on it anyways. And guess what they say??? They told me there is no order under my name and even if there was, they are out of lobster tails. Ohmygahhh! Why did they not tell me that over the phone??? I was furious and left the store. Never shopping in that store again. Customer service was really poor and they never communicated with me. Decided to use the Safeway Bakery for the first time, I ordered 30 RED cupcakes. When I went to pick them up, they were pink/orange. At the time of pick-up they told me this is the closest to red they could get. Why didn't they tell me this when I ordered them!?! So disappointed and will never use them again. read more

I have always been a big fan of Safeway. Not this New Year's Eve. My daughter and I went to the Safeway Deli in Turlock for chicken since Pioneer chicken was already closed. The clerk at the deli counter was very unfriendly and acted annoyed by our presence. We ordered the 16 piece. While she was picking out the chicken, I spotted a wing that looked a bit less scrawny and dry than the rest. She acted irritated that I would make such a request and proceeded to mutilate the piece of chicken. I ended up getting about half of a chicken wing. The rest of the pieces were very dry and tasteless. Having worked in retail/customer service positions over that last 35 years or so of my life, I would have to say that this is very poor customer service. I knew we should have gone to KFC. My New Year's resolution is to never buy chicken from this annoyed and irritated woman again. Safeway Turlock's New Year's resolution should be to provide training for their employees to provide excellent customer service! Nothing less is acceptable! read more

Here's a tip: avoid the 8:00-9:00 hour on Sunday mornings. That's about when an Extranomical Tours bus pulls into the Safeway parking lot to disgorge passengers for their breakfast. Tourists on their way to Yosemite instantly overwhelm the sandwich station next to the deli counter, and also bog down the thinly-manned checkstands.
