This review is for the Safeway Bakery! My then boyfriend, now finacè, ordered a cake for what I thought was a Friday the 13th/Valentine Day treat. He ordered a vintage white heart cake, omitted all the decorations and planned for pickup at noon on Friday. He said his experience was easy and the person who took the order was meticulous and friendly! My review portion is solely based on the presentation! It was a cake to celebrate our engagement! Expect to pay more than advertised. I can't remember the last time I shopped here where my receipt matched correctly with what I should have been charged. I tend to shop here early evening and the customer service counter is always closed so I simply concede. The last three visits, the errors have been $15-$20+ so I think it's time for me to find an alternate grocery option.. I brought in a photo a week before my daughters birthday so they can see what we were expecting. And if they can accomplish it. The guy that took my order said the baker can do it. He also took a picture of the cake that we wanted. We asked for it to be in a Lilac color. We also requested chocolate chips to be added to the red velvet and we would pay extra if we had to, but there were none. I left my phone number and asked the guy to have them call me if they weren't able to accomplish this simple puffy frosting design and to let me know about the chocolate chip request. No call. The decorations looked so basic and nothing like the one in the photo! The cake looked fuchsia. He told me they couldn't do the black bows so that was not expected. The overall decorations was a big miss. And look at that heart shape... the top of the heart is flat on the right. How does that even happen? I was charged more than the regular round for this size too. Like what? I couldn't fuss much in the store because we were on the way to the party and the decorator wasn't even there. I had a really disappointing experience at Safeway checkout at 5:15pm today (March 17). Jada didn't acknowledge us at all; no greeting, no eye contact, nothing. She was smiling and chatting with her coworker right before helping us, but as soon as she started ringing us up, she completely ignored us and didn't acknowledge us at all. When my dad tried to speak to her, she completely ignored him, which felt very rude and unprofessional. She also yawned right in front of us without covering her mouth, and seemed visibly annoyed that we had items in our cart, even grunting while scanning them. It felt like we were inconveniencing her just by being there. I understand people have off days, but basic customer service and common courtesy should still be expected. I haven't had any problems with this Safeway. I like that they have a gas station with comparable prices to Costco up the street on Automation Parkway. There's a Starbucks inside too. Sometimes Girl Scout cookies are being sold out front. The parking lot is big and I've never had a problem finding parking. read more

Earlier today around 8:57 pm on 3/21/25 with cashier Joshua was unprofessional and rude. The customers in front of me was lively and animated and Joshua was responsive towards the customers while making small talk. When I went he was dead silence didn't greeted me. Didn't say anything. All he did was ask me if I wanted a bag. I said no. Then the moment the customer behind me came he greeted them. And had a conversation. I think his lack of professionalism and friendliness clearly demonstrates that he has the skills but choices to not practice those skills with me. If anything, I think he was racist and demonstrated micro aggression since both customers in front of me and behind me were both white. Regardless, it felt uninviting and I felt like a second class citizen. I really don't appreciate his lack of motivation and willing to make shopping at this location to be friendly and inviting as I had observed from both customers being treated with more respect dignity and hospitality. It would be nice to live in a color blind society but apparently, Joshua only sees color. And didn't get the memo. read more

I usually look forward to their weekly ads and the chance to clip coupons to the app. I saw the Quaker rice cakes for $1.99 this week. I bought 4 different flavors. When I checked out, they rang up at $3.49 ea. I waited at their service desk for 10 minutes before someone showed up. I explained the apparent overcharge. She asked me if I had it on the app. I showed her it on my phone. She pointed out the little banner on the ad, in point 2-5 font; that said for PICKUP AND DELIVERY. I hadn't seen that before now. Since I wasn't having it delivered, my price was $3.49! Another way to make profit. I returned 3 of 4 packages. I also stopped at their deli to get chicken tenders. At 4:25 PM I was told another batch would be out in 10 minutes. At 4:45 still none there. Again I was told another 10-15 minutes before another batch would be out. I told the associate that's what she told me 20 minutes earlier. I told her I'll go to another Safeway. There is another store up Berryessa and Capitol. About a week and a half ago, my family stopped by Safeway to grab some dinner from the deli. We opted for buffalo wings and potato wedge fries. The staff member helping us was friendly, but the selection was disappointingly bare. He gave us all the fries that were available, but it wasn't much. While the buffalo wings looked decent and were not dry, we were disappointed by the store policy that didn't allow us to get all wings/flats. We didn't want the drumsticks, but the employee explained that it was the manager's rule to only sell mixed pieces. I had a cart full, about $350 worth, I believe. After I checked out, the cart suddenly stopped halfway between the cashier area and the exit door. It wouldn't move. I went back and told the cashier and he called the manager to come. She bent down and fiddled with it so it would move and I could leave the store. I asked her why the brakes were suddenly applied. She gave me a streaming, unintelligible answer of, it felt like, dozens of words, but part of that was that the carts come from other stores, which is a ludicrous answer. Aside from this weird experience, when I got home and opened the pack I bought of fresh corn on the cob, the ends where they had been cut before packaging were covered with black mold. You can't see it through the colored cellophane while in the store. This is the second time, but I thought since it wasn't expired yet it would be ok. I would say don't buy this corn if it is anywhere near the expiration date on the package, and maybe open it in the parking lot so you can return it easily if it happens. I went back there again in about a month. Still weird experiences. Outside at the entry, at first glance, there was a boy with stacks of apparently charcoal drawings, seemingly looking for sales or donations. He and they were sitting on the ground in a corner. He looked afraid and despondent as if he wanted to hide. I wondered if someone forced him to leave the flea market across the street and sell here instead. As I came in the store to get the usual eggs I buy, at the refrigerated egg carton shelves, about 8 feet long and several feet high, the shelves were empty and all you could see were dozens of square feet of shiny metal empty shelves, except one small corner had Lucerne egg cartons, the Safeway brand. I asked the employee nearby what happened to all the eggs and he said they had been very busy, as if customers had come in and bought every carton of Eggland, O Organics, Vital Farms, Happy Farms, Clover, free range, pasture raised, organic, etc. eggs and left a small amount of generic ones. I bought a carton but threw them away at home because of this weird circumstance. The bakery's lemon donuts I always get for my husband had so much powdered sugar piled on top, almost as thick as the donuts themselves, so he picked out an alternate choice. The sweet potatoes I always get were now in a huge pile of giant ones covered with scratches and gashes and bruise spots. They appeared to have been dragged in a net bag behind a moving vehicle. I went to the side of the pile and was able to dig out some perfectly normal ones from the middle. At checkout the credit card reader wouldn't accept my credit card. It wouldn't read via the chip, the tap, nor the swipe. There was a loud buzz and big bold letters in caps on the screen saying essentially "NO!!," is the way I remember it. The cashier told me to wait until the screen clears and swipe it again. (Swiping is the least secure method.) It worked. I'm only mentioning this because it has been happening only at most of the Safeway stores, and only lately. I've been using the credit card for 33 years as a means to keep track of expenditures. read more

Safeway is a groceries store which is locally in areas of San Jose,Ca off of beressa rd. I come to this store location for hydration drinks, ready to eat meals, Starbucks, and other meal prep for picking up for home needs. I had been working in MFC department which handles all online fulfillment as well for several months. Great place to work, but I was told I was too slow. my time never really interacting with customers just other work associates of department and primarily I'm communicative in English only. I would transport myself to and from work sites utilizing my own personal transporation, not being accompanied of any other persons during on site work shifts. Other times, on days off I would be accompanied of someone is not during work shifts. My favorite Safeway store in San Jose areas. Best found flowers for your floral arrangement selections far best as assortments are kept well maintained. All other departments in store as well for easy finding of products around stores. Ballon inflation, and Starbucks are located inside this Safeway as well with hot food section. Self check out is an option here, and plenty of parking spaces with other nearby store amenities of restaurants. I have not made any store recommendations to any persons but, I come here often meal prep needs. I am appalled that this Safeway thinks it's okay to sell month old cheese to its customers. It is not even the first time I have bought food that is past the Best By date from a Safeway. I bought a pack of the Laughing Cow cheese and when I had one of the wedges, it tasted strange, but I thought it may be because I am trying a new flavor. I later checked and saw the Best By date was JUNE 15th - I bought this on JULY 6th! This is completely unacceptable. This means that no one was bothering to check stocks for a month. It is really problematic that there are no clear laws for expiration dates. Businesses can sell things long after their Best By date, even if the food has gone bad, as in this case where the Best By date was long pass. If we don't get a date, then when do things expire - or do we just risk it? I am now feeling incredibly sick and nauseous. Previously, I had bought a packet of gummies that were expired by months, but thankfully that time I had caught it before eating and tossed it out. I believe it specifically said "Expires by" and not "Best by" I thought maybe it was a specialty Asian item so that was the reasoning for the mistake. However, this negligence seems to be common place. Please beware when shopping here and be vigilant to protect your health. read more

This has to be one of the cleanest Safeways I've been to. There's a large deli selection,also a large selection of pre packed foods to go.. I'm surprised how much fresh baked bread that they carry. They must bake baguettes through out the day. Mine felt warm around 1130am. A fairly good selection of vegetables. Plus the store has at least 10 self checkout machines. People if you don't know how to scan and look up your items,go to the regular line. read more

I somehow missed that this brand new Safeway was here and I was still going to the one down the road. On a Sunday, it is busy as any grocery store would be inside but parking is also packed from folks who park here to walk to the Flea Market. Come here for the inexpensive fuel (no membership required) and short lines, stay for the beautiful grocery store. In comparison to other fancy Safeways (Rivermark and Tully), this one is definitely better than most. The floral section is smaller than the aforementioned but the bakery section is larger. They also have a large prepared food section. The aisles are well stocked and spacious compared to older stores. On a Sunday afternoon, there were only 3 cashiers so the self checkout was the best option. I also had a hard time finding someone to ask where I could fine a product. Otherwise, I definitely found items here other older/smaller Safeways don't carry such as dairy alternative yogurt. Check it out! read more

Hands down, this is the prettiest Safeway I have ever stepped foot into. Yes, this is a brand spankin' new Safeway but the design in itself just adds to the pretty factor. Everything is bright, clean, spacious, and very modern. What's not to LOVE??! Unlike other Safeway locations, this one has it's aisles stocked to the brim and there aren't pallets & boxes that need to be maneuvered around. Produce department is tidy and the quality of the produce is awesome. 5 stars for this Safeway Supermarket. Kudos to them for staying open late, it'll come in handy for my cravings and whenever I'm in need of something for my toddler. read more

We are so excited about this new Safeway! We typically go to the Milpitas Safeway as it's nicer than the other Berryessa Safeway, but Milpitas is further out for us. Now we can get to a beautiful and clean Safeway in a few mins! Game changer for us! We needed to pick up some snacks for my daughter as she just got braces and needs braces friendly food. So nice to stroll this new place and find a variety of options for her. The Deli and Bakery area is huge! A ton of variety. Nice butcher area too. My favorite section is the Dairy area. Nice glass doors to give you a clear vision of which type of milk or dairy you need. Very aesthetically pleasing. There's also a large Starbucks inside and a separate alcohol with their own checkout. Perfect for a quick alcohol run! We will definitely be back often! read more

Idk who does the cake decorating but if I didn't have a stroke last month I'd be flipping my shit at how horrible this looks..(not the nice girls who took my orders fault) Ok hear me out. First off the toy was unavailable so I chose to go with the theme anyways. I ended up paying $30 for the size of the cake! It sucks that it just so happens, this birthday is so close to a holiday. Just wanted to say thank you to the kind worker in Guest Services (I believe her name was Mariela). I got home from a long day and stopping for groceries and realized I was missing a bag and I think it was mistakenly not put in my cart or got mixed up with the person's behind me. No big deal, until I realized it was our meat for dinner. I called the store and Mariela answered, was kind, and when I arrived the process of replacing the food took less than 5 minutes. She was very understanding and helpful - getting me out of there quickly and assisting me. Just wanted to shout her out - I'm sure these kind of mix ups are common but it's nice to see someone who provides good customer service. Wanted to give her that recognition because during a really hard week for me personally, having that minor issue handled gracefully made my day a lot easier. read more

A Safeway. It's got everything any other newer Safeway has (looking at you calaveras and river mark) and is close to my house so that's a major plus. I still do prefer Asian supermarkets for produce but Safeway sales are great for American groceries and meat. It is the best I've been to but still not worthy of a 5 star. Today when I went to get the Friday fried chicken deal, they were almost out. I asked how long for another batch and they said about 8 minutes. I waited. Little did I know, sometime else came by earlier asking for 3 orders of it (they were supposed to limit to 2). Employee A, who I was talking to the whole time and was very pleasant and helpful, got then their chicken. Apparently taking 80% of the fresh chicken. Then employee B got mine. Employee B decided to hunt through the chicken to give me the old pieces that were dried out and gross. Employee A still got me the fresh stuff so I had one order of dried chicken jerky and one of freshly fried chicken. I asked how long until the next batch to see if I could get non chicken jerky (remember the other customer got 3 orders of fresh and the biggest pieces). Then employee B snapped at me saying, "what's your problem I got you an order and they got you the other.". I explained to employee A why I was unhappy and she was apologetic but employee a just gave me the stink eye. One bad experience doesn't deserve a 3 or less star, but it definitely prevents it from being a 5 star. I'll be back.
