Did I drag going to a catholic school? Yes at times. Did I hate the lack of social events? Yeah I did. Dances back in my high school days? Unheard of. Did the uniform annoy me? Yeah it was itchy but the tie was kinda cute. Don't get me started on the penny loafers, we will be here all week... let's move on... If I were to have written this review years ago, I would have given it one star (since zero stars isn't a option on Yelp) But now that I've matured (at least I think I have) I thank this high school for the commitment to push me forward. It helped me with advanced placement courses, the professors actually cared about my education advancement and the teachers actually helped me earn those five points on the rigorous AP exams. Saturday study sessions were actually a thing at sacred heart. Yep being at school around 8am just to review some art history sure is annoying, not to mention calculus oyyy. *shivers as I recall the early morning drives* .... I used to be an ambassador, you know those ladies who's promote the school? Yep that was me. Being an ambassador helped with my social skills. It lead me believe in myself especially when presenting. Now I'm able to speak in-front of large crowds with no hesitation. So don't skimp out on the extra curricular activities, they sure do help! .... You know those religion courses? Yep had to take em. But the real highlight for me was math... Let's talk about my calculus professor for second, Ms. Collier (I think she's married now aww) so let's call her Mrs Collier. She taught me AB CALCULUS and BC CALCULUS and just like all typical students you ask yourself when the heck will I need to use this type of math? Believe it or not I actually did at work the other day and it lead to a promotion. Ten points for Mayra! (If you get the HP reference lol)....Also happy pi day! ..... Although this school has a reputation (which I'm sure you're well aware of) don't knock it until you try it. I sure went in with a close mind set, and wow was I surprised. Note for parents: * Financial aid is a actual thing, maybe you'll qualify maybe you won't. My parents worked hard to place me at this school, and I turned out pretty well. I was on financial aid, and had to complete work study hours - cleaning the school after school isn't that bad ladies and gents. * swelling that Avon used to annoy me, not sure if the school still does it, but remember the money earned through these kinds of fundraiser events offset some of the tuition coming out of your pocket. Food for thought, am I right? *if I ever decide to have children of my own, I will without a doubt register my kids to sacred heart. I trust them whole heartedly. Compared to Solano, sometimes I wonder how I ever survived Griffin where I went from third to sixth…read moregrades. Third grade was a trying time for me. I learned all about how to NOT make a gingerbread house. Fourth grade was a blur. Fifth grade was actually pretty cool. I had two teachers who came in on different days of the week. The one who taught science and math was obsessed with her son's then AP biology classes so we were dissecting frogs and reconstructing chicken skeletons (chickens were bought from Chinatown and boiled by the cafeteria to get all the meat off). The other teacher was all about reading and the arts so we read stories and drew on the walls. She gave me one of my favorite books, "My Side of the Mountain." My sixth grade teacher was obsessed with preparing us for junior high and wouldn't let us put our books in the slot under our desk. We had to pretend to walk up to the bookshelves and fake dialing a locker code to get our stuff. Wacky teachers. It was in sixth grade though that I decided I was going to be a writer. I won the LAUSD handmade books contest for my grade level that year. My story was about a princess named Pumpkinlina. My book was shaped like a pumpkin. How could it not win, I tell ya! My principal was obsessed with making sure we knew the importance of college. We took field trips to the local community colleges, state colleges and a private university (it was also in sixth grade where I decided which college to go to). Actually, now that I think about it, elementary school was pretty fun.

The funny thing is, winning isn't even about merit--you just put your own name on a ballot, and the background check relies entirely on references from your own friends. They don't ask the students, and they definitely don't ask the parents. If they actually polled the parents she's dealt with, more than half would say she's the worst of the bunch. While the other teachers here are great, she is just cruel. She completely ignores the kids' social-emotional health and has zero empathy. It is baffling that she is being celebrated.
