So, before we left Florence we made sure to stop by this butcher and fine foods store. We are so glad we did. We got 3 bottles of the best vinegar we had this whole trip, 3 bottles of truffle oil and a delicious local artisan sausage (it would be wrong not to buy meat from a butcher shop!). The butcher was so friendly and helpful. Wrapping my bottles carefully, since he knew we were traveling. He made sure to tell me how to best use the truffle oil and told me they were the best in the region. Thanks for the best take home gifts.

A great place to spend a few hours. Strolling around we got quite a bit hungry. Then we came across this place. And I remembered reading good reviews about it, so we went for it. It's a mix between a small restaurant (just a handful of tables in the back) and a butchery / deli shop. There's plenty of fresh cut meats to choose from (Salami, Ham, Sausages) and it also has a good range of sweets and cookies and lots of other products. There's a good selection of cheese also. Either eat-in other take-away (bring home). We took a seat in the back and ordered a plate of cut meats with Crostinis for just 10 Euro. And a small bottle of Prosecco for 7 Euro. The meat was really good. Presentation nice. Way above you average Salami and Ham. Nice spices and flavours. Besides the sweets they also sell lots of other special italian products. Olive Oil, Limoncello and other liquors and lots of truffle products (truffle honey, truffle spread with parmesan etc.), also chutneys, jam and much more. All really good stuff! We bought quite a bunch of their products to bring home and they taste fantastic. Service / staff was really great and helpful and took a lot of time explaining their products. And - quite unusual for this kinda place - our dog was welcome too. They even brought a huge bowl of water for her. A great great place. I had never seen so many cuts of meats in my life, and although I am one to turn vegetarian at the thought of "hanging meats" sometimes my European background kicks in and I am willing to try. I sampled two salumis and one cured meat: pork sausage with fennel (my fave; think of what you would find in America but 1000 times better, Boar's salumis which was saltier but surprisingly not bad, even if the stuffed boar of which I took a photo will forever be etched in my mind, and finally the cured pork fillet which has been proven to be my least favorite. It was delicate prosciutto and a bit too "soft" for my liking. I explored the cheese basement which was luke warm and before I saw the camera I touched one; it turned out to be the real deal and not wrapped in plastic as they appeared. So I apologize to the unsuspecting person who buys this wheel. ;) My only complaint was the bathroom had zero ventilation and was very Italian. Of course, I was only there for a minute but I still prefer cleaner ones. Still, it was great that they even had a public bathroom and I was really impressed with this entire shop! It sells a good selection of local products like cheese, salami, oil or different kind of liquors (like of course Limoncello) and much more. There are many products to sample. We really fell in love with their cheese. Especially the one with pears (!) impressed us very much. A nice, hard cheese with a good hint of pear flavour. Don't know how they achieved that, but it tasted absolutely lovely. Really great cheese. Some people still underestimate Italian Cheeses, this is a great shop to convince you otherwise. Other products looked and tasted good too. But we shopped a lot already that day. Maybe some other time. So, if you're in or around Volterra, check out this little gem!

If your in Florence you have to stop by for a great authentic Italy. This is our second time stopping in at La Bottega del Chianti and we weren't disappointed.
