This…read moreone does look new but it's fully occupied and quite busy so I'm thinking it's been here for a bit. The shopping center is on the south side of Tradition Parkway about one mile west of I-95. It has three structures. One has a liquor store, barbershop Chipotle and a professional office. The second has a nail salon and Bagel Brothers. The third is Paradiso car wash. The Culver's to the east is not part of this particular shopping center. Easy to access from eastbound Tradition. From the west, there is a break in the median on Tradition and Southwest Village Pointe but the traffic on that road is a challenge. You will likely need to use Southwest Village Commons and go past the Wawa for the traffic light at Southwest Village Parkway. Parking here was easy enough in the Sprinter van. Larger vehicles will likely need to park on Southwest Village Commons as a service road. [Review 176 of 2025 - 1960 in Florida - 23741 overall]

One of the founders includes Anita Prentice who is well known in the area for her mosaic pieces including the benches at landmarks around town. Art Mundo has an art gallery occupying what used to be a 1972 Suntrust bank office building known as the One Eleven building on Orange Ave in downtown Ft. Pierce. Currently they are only using the basement and second floor. The building offers stunning views of Ft. Pierce waterfront. The former offices of the building are occupied by artists in residence. Artists include painters, wood workers, sculptors, and jewelry makers. I had wanted to explore Art Mundo out for awhile and it was finally open on a Saturday during the Fort Pierce Farmers market. Besides selling art they also hold classes, education, and exhibits. Some of the artists showcasing their work on the day I visited were Pawtraits by Rosy and Lisa, Michael Nemschick, and Lisa Jill Allison. I really loved the dog portraits by Rosy and Lisa and the wild bird oil paintings by Phyllis Beiser. While some of the art work was pricey I saw some affordable prints and an artist on the upper floor was selling prints of trees framed for only $20. The studios are open weekdays from 1 to 5 PM and Saturdays from 10 to 1. Every Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM there is an open studio and on the second Wednesday of the month there are new exhibits in the gallery space from 5 to 8 PM. The event is called Art Wednesday and they serve food and beverages. It is a good time to come and meet the artists. I really loved my visit here and will definitely be back again next time I am in the area. I would really love to attend the Art Wednesday event wich attracts a larger crowd and more artists but I am not sure if they are still holding it with Covid.

A nice place to learn about manatees along the Fort Pierce waterfront…read more While visiting Fort Pierce, we decided to stop at the Manatee Observation and Education Center located near the A.E. Backus Museum and found it to be a very nice little attraction. Admission was only $3 per person, making it an inexpensive place to spend some time and learn about Florida's manatees and other local wildlife. The center is a stand-alone building with two main rooms and an observation area overlooking the water. Inside there are three tanks, including two with fish and another with starfish and anemones. There are a lot of interesting displays and activities that seem especially geared toward children, although we enjoyed looking through them as adults as well. One of the more unusual things I enjoyed was a small robotics display that I thought was very cool. The staff was wonderful and took the time to explain the different parts of the center and answer our questions. Outside, there is a covered walkway along the water with informational signs explaining the area and its wildlife. Across the water is a very nice mural painted along the seawall that adds some color to the view. Behind the center there is also a fun mural and photo opportunity where you can see how you "size up" compared with a manatee. Make sure you go up to the observation deck above the walkway, which gives you a nice view of the water and surrounding area and, if you're lucky, perhaps a chance to spot a manatee. Overall, this is a very nice and inexpensive stop in the Fort Pierce area. Between the displays, tanks, friendly staff, waterfront setting, and observation deck, it is a good place to learn a little more about manatees and the local environment. Enjoy!
