    You know the worst thing about my move from CA to KY with United Van Lines? I didn't even hire them! I contracted with American Relocation & Logistics - a subsidiary of Mayflower. Well, without any notice (or right, according to our contract), they subbed the job out to United. And of course, they did a terrible job. The job was woefully understaffed and one of the "movers" was just an independent contractor. He wasn't in uniform and was extremely disruptive all day. Another "mover" wore headphones while working and couldn't hear anything her teammates were trying to say to her. This unprofessional crew spent the day arguing and bickering with each other and could not do anything in a timely, professional fashion. They refused to put down proper floor protection (even though I was guaranteed floor protection), did not use any doorway protection, and refused to wrap most of the furniture they removed from the house. Most of the furniture wasn't wrapped until it got on the truck, allowing plenty of time for it to be banged into walls, doorways, other furniture and boxes, etc. before it got on the truck (hence, why I had to file multiple damage claims). The crew moved so slowly and was so behind schedule that the independent contractor actually tried to get US to help them with the work. He actually said to me that it was "the husband's job" to follow them around and help them take our furniture apart. He also said that I should go on a "beverage run" to the local liquor store for him. The driver apologized for running so late and admitted that staffing was the issue. Another thing that slowed them down is this ridiculous numbering system. The driver is supposed to put a label with a number on it on every single item that goes onto the truck. That number then get recorded in their records and should ensure that they are able to find everything belonging to us when they arrive at our new house. So, they spent a lot of time doing that. However, that system only works if they put a number on everything. The driver missed a number of boxes and furniture items, which meant that all of that was a waste of time (and it means that I have no idea if any boxes are missing or not). Our house was only 1,400 sq feet - the entire move out and loading the truck should have taken no more than 4 - 6 hours. It took them 12. The driver promised us that the unloading would go much smoother and be much faster. But again, the job was understaffed and the unloading actually took just as long as the load in. I resent the fact that I paid for a move to be properly staffed and United chose to understaff it (or to allow the driver to understaff it). The movers explained that the fewer people on each job, the more money they each make since they do not have to share the amount with more staff. So, rather than have twice as many people and they each get paid half as much (and only have to do half as much work), they would rather work twice as long and make twice as much money. However, that is hugely inconvenient for ME and wasn't good for my belongings - these guys were exhausted halfway through the day and could barely finish the job. They needed multiple breaks and it took them forever to get just one piece of furniture upstairs. Had they come properly staffed, the job would have been done in half the time and perhaps my furniture would be in better shape. They also arrived outside of my "guaranteed" delivery window. So, apparently a contract with guaranteed dates means nothing. And the delivery guys started off nice, but as they got tired, they got cranky and irritated. One of them kept complaining about how many boxes we had. Really? He is surprised to see boxes? He is a MOVER. And we were dismayed to see our boxes that were clearly labeled "FRAGILE" on all sides with "This End Up" and arrows on them turned sideways and buried under tons of other boxes and furniture. And we color-coded all the boxes to make it easier to identify what boxes go where (all boxes with yellow stickers go in the kitchen, all boxes with green stickers go in the bathroom). They started off following this plan, but as they got tired they just started dumping boxes anywhere. They even stopped taking boxes upstairs. Overall, this company is super unprofessional with terrible customer service. Avoid at all costs.

From the start, they took the time to walk through our home and clearly ask about everything we wanted to move so they could mentally map out how to load the truck efficiently. They were extremely diligent with protection, using blankets and/or shrink wrap on all furniture and electronics, and they were very by the book when it came to reviewing the contract and confirming details. I especially appreciated that they checked all electronics before and after the move and even had me climb into the truck at the end to verify that nothing had been left behind. The move‑in was just as smooth. We had labeled certain items to go to one level and others to another, and they followed those directions perfectly, with everything ending up exactly where it was supposed to, with no damage and no confusion. Their organization and care were obvious in every box/container they carried and every piece of furniture they placed. Moving is usually a very stressful experience, but Fito and the Pure Moving team made it feel manageable and even reassuring. I found them to be excellent in every way, and I would highly recommend both the company and this specific crew to anyone looking for reliable, thoughtful, and professional help on moving day.
