Located in a small park in front of the Chateau Frontenac, this statue honors the Recollets. They were a reform branch of friars that became known as the Franciscans.
They served an important role as early missionaries to the French colonies in Canada and earned immortality for reportedly brewing the first beer in New France in 1620.
The monument consists of a solitary figure holding a crucifix in its right hand and an olive branch in its left hand. The statue sits atop a very ornate base that looks like a castle. The plaque lists the names of four of the Recollects. The plaque is not easy to read and doesn't offer a lot of information.
It seems as though there is a gorgeous monument like this one on every other street corner in Quebec City. What a beautiful place. read more
