Let me start by saying: I did it wrong! I had an old car that still runs, but needs more repair than the car is worth to make it safe to drive. I wanted to get rid of it without much hassle, so I called a few junkyards to sell it for parts, but they weren't interested. Rusty's is an umbrella company that works with local salvage yards. I called Rusty's and got an instant quote for how much they would pay, then got a follow-up call from the local yard. They wanted to pick it up the next day! I said yes. What I should have done was shopped around, because I found another online salvage place that offered me $350 to Rusty's $200. Also, when the tow truck came to pick up my car, they had me sign over the title without listing a buyer - that seems strange to me now, but I didn't think much about it at the time. They gave me an envelope with cash and a basic receipt, but that's about it. If I were doing it again, I'd get quotes from a few salvage places, and then maybe list it online for a little bit more, to see if anyone can make better use of it. (The salvage quotes are based purely on the amount of metal in the car, so a working car should have been worth more than the sum of its melted down parts!). It's my own fault for letting myself feel pressured to move quickly by Rusty's, but I wouldn't fall for it again. One note: donating a car to charity is often a good idea, especially if the car runs and can be re-used. But this old car needed $1000 worth of work with a blue book value of $1200. The legal tax deduction is only for the resale cash that your charity gets for the car, which in this case was likely to be its scrap value anyway. I'd rather get the cash myself and then donate some of it to charity. read more

I was not impressed with their customer service at all. I called to get a quote on my car and was given a very low quote. While I understand that my car has a few repair issues, they only offered me $100. I explained to him that other salvage yards had offered me at least $300 for my car in its current condition. He got snippy with me and then hung up on me. I can appreciate running a business for money, but being rude to potential customers is not the way to run a good business. read more

I have an appointment in an hour to pick up my electronic title and this jersey guy was rude and said if i didn't have it in hand right then he wouldn't help me and hung up on me when i said i would have it in an hour. My experience was vastly different than the other reviewers. My car's transmission was stuck and not worth fixing. The dealer offered me a low price to junk it, but I called Rusty's and received a better quote. The customer service reps were friendly and walked me through the process. While I was uneasy about just leaving the keys and the title in the car without being present, they provided the local rep's number and information. I guess that it was my fault for expecting to deal with an intelligent person. Their ad says cars 2000 or newer wanted. My car is a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT. I asked for a price and the woman said that they don't want it because they don't make that car anymore! I may be wrong but I thought that you buy auto parts for used cars that need them not a new car! I suppose you have to be an 'expert' in the business to know that. Too bad you can't give zero stars. I'll start off by saying it was the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I called them to schedule an appointment with the tow truck driver... 1 week later, no answer, so I recall.. Tow truck driver tells me he'll be there tomorrow around lunchtime to pick up my car. 3:30 rolls around the next day, still no sign of the tow truck driver. (Whom I have been waiting for since 11:30 AM that morning) I have shit to do. I call to try and see if he's close or even on his way at that point. I was put on hold for 10 minutes, finally someone picked up the phone.. but only to hang up on me. I recall, furious at this point, and they give me the direct number for the tow trucker. I call probably 6 times before I get someone to answer. "Uh, let me call you back and we can see about picking up your car some other time..." UM. NOPE. I started a freaking yelp account just to leave this review about how horrible their customer service is. read more

Even Comcast has better phone service than Rusty's. I called to get a quote, not sure if I was definitely going to do business with them yet or not, and was treated to a 15-minute wait time. Fine, I can deal with that. When the rep finally came on, she was rude, and acting like I was wasting her time. She told me that I should have never called until I was ready to sell, but why would I sell without getting a quote from them? She said I could call back in an hour and that price won't be available. Sure, I get that. The rep was so condescending and just kept asking "what's wrong with it," to which I tried to explain, but then she cut me off, and gave me a quote that was way lower than everyone else I have talked to. If I'm not supposed to call for a quote, then offer another way to get a quote. I don't understand this type of customer service, because I won't be back, and I won't offer them up to anyone else. If they need more reps, hire more reps. This business just seems to be too poorly run and staffed for all of the areas they cover. read more

Called for a quote before dealing with my insurance company. They would not honor the quote if I did not commit to it right then even though I needed to clear it first with my insurance company. There is no reason a reputable company would pressure me before I had a chance to work out the details with my insurance company. Absolutely the worst. If I could give it negative stars I would. I sent an online request on Thursday and got a phone call Friday. They said it couldn't be picked up until Monday. I reluctantly agreed since their quote was the highest. I was told the tow company would contact me in an hour to schedule a pick up. That never happened. Of course they're closed until Monday. So I call on Monday and spend over 20 minutes on hold then get transferred around. Finally talk to the right person and they can't schedule it until Wednesday. Ok I'll schedule it. They give me a 6 hour window for pick up. Ugh. So I agree and the driver is supposed to be here between 6am and noon. I was told I would get a confirmation call Tuesday. Never happened. It's now Wednesday and after calling and waiting on hold forever I finally get the number to the local tow company. They don't answer for hours and then when I do talk to someone they don't know where the driver is and that the quoted time is not a guarantee. Really!? You can't hit a 6 hour window? Even Comcast does better than that. Needless to say it's now after 2pm and I'm still waiting for the driver. About to call other companies. Which I have done already which was part of the reason I was putting up with this. If you value your time DO NOT use this company!!!! read more

The guy who answered my call must have been severely beaten as a child or dropped on the head or something because he had a temper and rudeness to him that made me hate this business and caused me to right this review. He asked who's name the car was in, and i said mine. He then acted offended and rudely says "IM JUST DOING MY JOB" . i immediately hung up afterwards.
