Yesterday I ordered from Russ' Restaurant for the first time. We had Russ' 'Famous' Hand Battered Onion Rings, Double Cheeseburgers, and Carrot Cake. I'm always a bit leery when someone describes their product as famous but in this case I think it was justified; these were one of the two best orders of onion rings I've ever had in my life. Hand cut, crisp, and deliciously battered, I'm looking forward to having them again. Their carrot cake was incredible, moist, firm, well spiced with a tasty cream cheese icing. It was one of the best tasting pieces of carrot cake, other than homemade, that it's been my pleasure to devour. The burgers however were a totally different story. I had requested they not be overcooked and mentioned I like my Burgers pink inside. What I got was totally overdone burgers without a trace of pink or any juiciness. For this reason I have to give Russ' Restaurant three stars and instead of the five that the onion rings and carrot cake were leading up to. Future orders will have to have something else as the entree because the burgers were totally disappointing.

Very basic overly salted diner menu. Service was really un-engaged and rushed us. You can do classic American diner fair authentic and well but not here.

The ceiling here is painted with a mural of blue skies.

Best onion rings ever. Small Dutch restaurant. Homey food like meatloaf, fried chicken, cinnamon rolls... Service is quick and great. A lot if the older crowd tend to eat here because the food is cheap and the atmosphere is old school "Dutch" nice. A cheeseburger and fries is about $4. And it's made to order. The desserts are also pretty good as well.

My burger patty was cooked to perfection. Medium and very juicy and delicious. The bun was pretty good. But there was barley any mayo and olives on my Olive Burger. And it needed some tomato! 1 Bun Restaurant has the best Olive Burger in GR so far!

I ordered a large salad with extra tomato and cucumber from this place for lunch. It cost $5.50 and came with two cherry tomato and 2 slices of cucumber. After getting to work I couldn't believe what they gave me. Went back to complain and they said they did add extra tomato and cucumber. Was told each piece cost 50 cents extra. In the picture you will see on the left the salad I got from Russ minus the two cherry tomatoes and 2 slices of cucumber because I added them to my salad I ordered from Mr. burger next door. On the right is what $5.25 will get you at Mr. Burger. I liked Russ food but after this salad even I will never go back.

    Hot turkey gravy tho tho

At first I was hesitant because of the price, and it being biscuits, but they made me eat those words and more. It was like a large biscuit muffin top with jalapeño, cheese and honey glaze (I think) and it came with a white cheddar cheese sauce to dip it in that was outrageously delicious. For a guy who hates cheddar biscuits, I've got to say I'm blown away. My wife ordered the steak with fingerling potatoes and carrots. It was on the pricier side, but yet again well worth it. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the veggies were pretty good too. They had live music playing as well tonight. It was a jazzy kind of vibe and it didn't over power anyone talking or anything. The guy had some serious skill too. To top it off, we had some pretty killer service from everyone there. From the hostess taking our names, random servers walking around, and our fantastic server (I forget her name but she was blonde and worked upstairs and had a a really great attitude. The expo or food runner dropping our food off anticipated us possibly needing an extra plate and brought one without asking which was super awesome and ended up coming in handy ( I knew my wife wouldn't finish that steak alone) and she brought it without asking and was ready with a smile to get more. I used to be a GM (I hate when people use this saying but...) truly I know how hard it is to find good workers and the folks running it here seem to have it down. I come from a place where you have to drive 100 mi or more for average service. So seeing exceptional service is really almost too good to be true. I'd definitely stop in for a bite. Bar seating is first come first served so I went right after work and got there about 4:45. There were a ton of seats open at the bar. A friend met me at 5pm. We were seated with Fin, the bartender. He was awesome- very attentive but not overbearing. I could tell when he was coming by to peek in on us but he never interrupted our conversation. He would glance over and check our drinks and pause, and then keep moving. I'm sure if I was alone he would've provided me with some banter, he seems nice enough. He recommended a cocktail - The Last Word. I've had one before and this one did not disappoint. The other drinks I had were the espresso martini and the New York sour- both favorites of mine and done very well by Fin. I love that this bar uses frosty glasses for their cocktails. It's a nice touch. I had to have the Wagyu meatballs. They're mentioned in many reviews and people at work agreed they're a must have. My friend wasn't very hungry so I ate 5 out of the 6 haha. The bread that comes w it is a focaccia that is his divine! I thought it was deep fried but it's just soaked in oil and then heated on the griddle. The meatballs are Wagyu 75/25 so kinda fatty but so smooth. They are served with a marinara sauce and ricotta. So good. Would get this again. The menu looks awesome but we were just there for drinks and snacks. Next time I'll make a reservation (Resy) and have dinner. Parking is typically awful. No valet. Bathrooms are multi sex unistalls, clean. The restaurant is noisy- maybe not a great first date spot. Seemed to be a lot of well to do people in the restaurant, based on the outfits and accessories I saw. Might be a place to meet someone new if it wasn't so loud and incredibly busy. It's hard to get a table during dinner hours especially if the weather is perfect. But try your best to get in. They do take walk ins and it's worth an hour wait.
