I could have spent hours here just sitting watching the passing crowd. The day was so beautiful, lovely sunny weather and a perfect blue sky. The boats were moored along the wharf and owners were scrubbing the decks, hoisting the sails and polishing the silver to serve the friends who were accompanying them out to a watery lunch expedition.

Some parks have cafes. Some have playgrounds. Some (if not most) have large grassy areas to run around. But how many have all of these, plus tennis courts, sports fields, and is on the water front? Well Rushcutters Bay Park seems to have it all. Only issue is that a tonne of people know it. I have been here on a few weekends where everything seems to be happening at the same time. Feel like a coffee? Join the line. Need the toilet? Wait your turn. Though that said, this park is a great place to just chill out. So don't rush... just take your time and you'll get there in the end. It is also useful to know that there are a set of stairs that take you straight into Elizabeth Bay (if you are coming from that direction). Also if you head in this direction you'll see a mass of exercise equipment that is quite popular with runners in the mornings and on the weekends. Check it out. You wont be disappointed.

The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting, the water is, erm, wet. Nothing beats a stroll through Rushcutters Bay Park on a warm, spring day. Located between the busy New South Head Road and a calm, yacht-filled, area of the harbour, the park is a hubbub of activity, be it friends hanging out with a few beers (not sure if that's legal or not) or families with young children enjoying the vast expanse of inner-city grassland. It can get busy without feeling overcrowded, and the breeze off the harbour is also a pleasant addition. For families, there is the playground which was recently redeveloped, which means that it should still be in pristine condition - although not having any kids myself I would look a bit strange if I was wondering around inspecting the equipment (not sure that's legal either). There's also a café located, conveniently, right in the middle of the park. So, come the next warm day and you're in the area or just fancy a change from the overcrowded beaches, then head down to the park and soak up some sun (after applying sun-cream of course!).

Darling Quarter playground received it's much needed makeover, and what a makeover it is!…read moreThe sand pit is still there but slightly smaller, but the children won't notice because they are greeted by a much cooler distraction - the water play! shallow water puddles, water pumps, screws, and squirts everywhere! The flying fox is amazing, and climbing play is better than ever. There are a lot seating but we could do with more shades. The only bad thing about this playground is dragging the kids out afterwards and finding a restaurant that is happy to play host to wet and sandy bottoms. But that's why we pay big $$ at Darling Harbour ;)

Darling Harbour has really kicked it into full gear as of late. A great representation of that is…read morethe evolution of Darling Quarter. A delight for both children and adults alike (and the self-proclaimed in betweeners like myself), this is a must see portion of the harbour. The kid's playground is spectacular. I agree with my fellow reviewers when they say it may be Sydney's best playground. If you can elbow the kids off the swinging, rotating disc, definitely do so, and take a ride. It's a surefire good time. And what about the slide? Yes, you can glide down the wide slide with several mates by your side (couldn't resist that one, sorry). During the weekdays around lunchtime, however, the Quarter becomes the "play and lounge" center for the nearby corporate crowd. With public ping pong tables (BYO paddles and balls), it's a good place to get a little physical without turning your business suit into a sweatsuit. And while you're letting your hair down, bring your lunch on over and sunbake in the public lounge chairs. It might just be the perfect pick-me-up to get you through the rest of your work day.

Just look at that view! It's the kind that makes you pinch yourself that you're a Sydneysider - and…read moreit's definitely a view that you want to smugly show your overseas visitors. Preferably on New Years Eve. Oh yes I've spent many a NYE on these shores. Every year it seems to be a bit more restricted (more cops, more checks), but the result is that it's a great place for families to come and watch the 9pm fireworks - you'll just have to make sure you send a vanguard EARLY! But actually I prefer Blues Point every other day of the year, when I can wander down with a book and a coffee (see my Allpress rave from The Point Deli) and soak up some sun and that view for an hour or two. Bliss!

This is a view of Sydney Harbour if I ever did see one. The first thing I thought of when I drove…read moredown to this spot was what an amazing place to view the New Years Eve fireworks from. My second though was that it's a pity the grassed area is so small as I imagine every man and his dog would be trying inch their way in to the perfect viewing position. And it's got to be THE perfect viewpoint. The bridge looks complete, your virtually in the centre of it and only far enough away for it to be too close. I probably would attempt it on fireworks night but I would take any out-of-towners there for the complete view. There's also a designer playground... meaning no colourful plastic equipment here - silver shaped climbing frames... on second thoughts it might be workout gear for big people.

I went to Double Bay Primary School (across the…read moreroad), and this sprawling patch of harbourside green was my lunchtime playground... little did I appreciate it at the time. This is the perfect picnic spot. Settle in the shade of a majestic fig tree, and marvel at the endless park activity... frisbees, cricket, tai chi, footy, runners, dogs... dogs love it here. There's a playground for the kiddies, and a big gazebo to sit inside if lying on a blanket on the ground ain't your thing... but you might have to share it. Plenty of cute boats to ogle. And lots of water action, particularly when the 18 footers are in full sailing swing. Head towards the club (perched over the water) and you'll see Double Bay beach to the right. This could be the world's smallest beach, but it's cute and picturesque. Keep an eye out for the resident gaggle of geese... work on your harbourside tan... or frolic in the shallows and cool off on a hot day. Tip: avoid Steyne park like the plague on school days, or prepare to be overrun by hundreds of rambunctious primary schoolers.
