They had positive COVID but chose not to report to the state until AFTER moving to the new facility. At approximately 8pm last night my cousin (current inmate at Tom Green County Jail) was having a video visitation with his 3year old son. During the visit his son's mother stated she noticed blood on the towel behind him in his cell. As my cousin was communicating with his son 4-6 guards entered his cell. My cousin turned his tablet and showed his son's mother the guards stating "See how they come in here! I'm on here trying to talk to my son!" As the guards reached my cousin the video abruptly shut off. Family has been unable to establish communication since this incident.

We were with one other group but with so few people on the tour it was more interesting. The guide answered all the questions we had and explained that they are trying to renovate the jail and make it look the way it had before. We stopped in on our way to Austin with a failing radiator in our RV. I felt a little worried asking for help, but was immediately set at ease by the women at the desk! Though they didn't have a method to fill our tanks they called the DPS next door and even walked me over to see them. They were glad to help. While the tank was being filled I walked back to the visitor center and the women (Cathy and Stephanie) helped me navigate their seemingly endless brochures, maps, guides, and magazines. They hand picked several that would be really great for us and the kids. After checking out all the materials after leaving we've decided that Texas is DEFINITELY on out list of states we need to explore further! We've been through 16 states in this one trip and I can tell you we have not once encountered help and hospitality like that! The visitors center itself is beautiful and meticulously maintained but what really made me feel good was the expert advice and friendly staff!

I don't know who had the vision, and the money to create this place, but I truly believe them to be…read moresent from heaven. Not too many years ago the only thing available was a poorly run nursing home with a decades long reputation. That left me skeptical about what I would be getting here, and I'm proud to say I was very wrong. I'm going on my second loved one who has needed services from them, and everything has turned out to be first rate. Most importantly their food is good, and until having to deal with this myself I had no idea just how difficult it is to run a kitchen for that many old people with so many dietary concerns. I applaud their food service over, and again, for they do a great job, and a LOT of care and concern is put into their meals. But, the whole facility is kept sparkling clean, and free of odors. Their residents come and go as they please no differently than renting an apartment. They were particularly accommodating toward the special needs of Covid, where everyone is basically jailed in their private quarters. They do everything possible to leave the residents feeling like they are still living at home only with help an arm's reach away. At first, the rent seemed a little expensive until it became clear just what I was getting. I can claim to have personal experience with the place for going on 7 years now. I would encourage anyone responsible for caring for a loved one who doesn't need to live alone any longer to give this place serious consideration. They provide around-the-clock care less nursing in an exemplary way, and it was very satisfying doing business with them. Crystal, the manager of the place is an exceptional leader and she takes care of business.
