I went in 2 different times: saturday at 3pm and wednesday at 10am. Two completely different vibes. I tried the famous sandwich from the black pig, viral chocolate covered strawberries and bread ahead. Black pig - the best one sandwich: it was AMAZING!!! I was a bit scared to get this since i was by myself but let me tell you, it was not heavy as i expected it to be. Just delicious overall and would totally recommend. Chocolate strawberries: I love strawberries and chocolate but definitely think you can find cheaper alternatives anywhere in london. Bread Ahead: my new favorite pastry place. I pretty much got a donut from this place (not this location) everyday because the black currant cheesecake donut was that good. I got the tiramisu and crème brûlée donut which my brother liked and i wish i could've tasted them before they went bad but anyways, I would totally recommend the donuts from here! Their chocolate chips cookies are HUGE and delicious as well. This was probably one of my favorite markets!

A very nice farmer's market, Sundays only. It's well worth a visit if getting to Queens Park…read morestations isn't too much of a hike. There were at least 40 vendors including: - 3 or 4 booths selling cheeses - 4 or so purveyors of meats - 2 or 3 seafood sellers - many selling veggies, cakes, pastries, ciders, eggs and other raw materials. And if you just want to show up and eat, there were 5-6 vendors selling sausage rolls, burgers, chicken, pulled pork/beef sandwiches, plus French stews. While there are much bigger/well known weekend markets in London, I think this is the best example of a local one that is mostly focused on farmers, fisherman, bakers and butchers - but that also has a lot of stalls where you can eat something really nice. Nobody is selling overpriced jars of stuff or catering to massive crowds. This is a market where you can discuss how the cheese is made with the person who made it.

This one was just as good. I think california has different regulations or something because there were lots more meat and seafood stalls. There were at least two or three duplicates of each type of stall. I suggest doing a once around to compare prices and see what's all there that day. So excited to come back and figure out what to make that evening for Sunday roast with my market finds!

Surrey Street Market is easy to miss as it's off the main pedestriansed shopping area in Croydon…read moretown centre. However, I came across while making my way to the tram stop on the south side of town to get back to Wimbledon It's an old fashioned fruit and veg market but the quality does vary quite widely with commensurate difference in price. Just beware that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true However, with many stalls to gander at, there is ample opportunity to pick out some good yet quality bargains, especially as most stallholders seem happy to let you pick and choose your own produce In addition, there are some bric a brac stalls and some food stalls selling mainly ethnic food I hope there's always space for places like this

I didn't think it was much at the time when I lived in South Croydon, but now I really do miss places like this. I miss wandering "down to town" and passing this market and then wandering pass it again on the way home. It was a great place, full of vibrant people, a decent selection of stalls including ones that sold fresh fruit and veg, bags, purses, books, watches, pendants, antiques, flowers, specialty foods and the list goes on. In general, the number of stalls increased during the weekends. As with most outdoor markets, there's potential for haggling if you're into that kind of thing. There's also a lot of trash, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder... keep your eyes peeled for bargains in the summer, such as freshly plucked berries at an amazing price! Towards closing time (around 5:00 pm), there were lots of bargains that could be had: 1 pound for this or 1 pound for that. That is if you can understand the locals, screaming in cockney rhyming slang. There is nearby street parking, but the best bet would be to park near the city centre and walk down. I was lucky enough to live within walking distance of this market.
