Firstly, the people here are wonderful, polite, courteous, attentive, and were very helpful in all my questions and inquiries. I had been eyeing a pair of Alden 403 Indy boots, and have quite a few pairs of quality mens shoes. However, the Indy boots can be notoriously difficult to size due to the last and shape of the shoe. If fitted correctly, I had heard these were the most comfortable pair that one can own. I had come in twice, once I was helped by Ken and the second time by Jose. The first time being fitted, I got a different size than what Jose recommended in the end. But after careful measuring, sizing, resizing, and resizing some more, I was assisted to get the best fit possible for my strangely sized feet. All in all, it took about an hour and a half, but you just won't get the same kind of experience at another shop. The folks here have been in the trade for decades, and the level of knowledge and experience is just unmatched. If like me, you went to a shop thinking the customer service members knew what they were talking about, you might be suffering with an incorrect size for years. I'd say if it's your first pair of nice dress shoes or boots, come to Sherman brothers first. Even if you were to get the most amazing pair of shoes from another shop, it won't mean anything when you're suffering from walking all day in an ill-fitted pair.

They were the last store to try before getting in the car and going somewhere else. The staff were amazing. Parking is on the local street, or a local garage. The store is small, but there is enough space. The fitting areas/benches are comfortable. The staff were working hard left and right to find a shoe that fits me well, and a size to match. When my friend and I were walking in we were greeted right away. I started picking up shoes left and right to try on. The one male employee who helped me the entire time was amazing. He was actually wearing the no back loafers from Martens. I tried them on and loved them, but ended up not getting there. I want a pair or shoes that were going to go with a lot of my outfits. I was really wanting a pair of boots too. I did end up with a pair of simple black boots with and no visable stitching. I walked around Philly for a few more hours and I was very comfortable.

They have an entire room of evening and dyeable shoes. They easily had 200 pairs of dyeable shoes ranging from 40-200 dollars (most seemed to be about 60). Everything from super conservative looking shoes to very fun, modern shoes to shoes, short heels to sky high heels, simple to all dazzled up. The staff was super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I'm pretty sure it was three generations of a family working there. Always a nice feeling to support a local mom and pop business. I would definitely recommend going here for any special occasion shoes.

I'm from the neighborhood so I popped in the store, saw them and fell in love. It's an adorable shoe, that I thought I'd surely wear down the aisle on my wedding day. However, that weekend while shopping I found a different pair of shoes that match near exact to my dress and had to make a decision. Naturally I decided to return the shoes to South Philly Shoes since the others were such a better match. I looked at the receipt for a return policy before going in. Stamped across the front is "NO CASH REFUNDS". I bought with a charge - no problem! So I went to return the shoe today, 1/16/2013, just 5 days after purchasing. I hadn't even taken them out of the box. Immediately the two women in the store (who where both there when I purchased the shoes) told me there are no cash refunds. I said that was okay, I bought them with a credit card and would gladly take the refund on the charge. Now, I too am a small business owner and know the risks and costs of running a small business. But treating my customers and clients with little to no respect, no flexibility and no understanding is certainly not the way I do business. Needless to say, I support small businesses as much as I can. I shop Passyunk Ave to do my part and contribute and thus, shopped South Philly Shoes in the first place to ensure that if I'm going to spend money anyway, why not support the local/small businesses. The owners/managers/whoever the snide ladies behind the counter are launched into a full on rant about how expensive it is to run the credit card machine, how each time money goes into the register, it goes right out to pay bills, that the recession has hit them very hard and they don't have the money to refund me or anyone and that is the way it has been for 32 years. They insisted that a stamp on the receipt that says "NO CASH REFUNDS" is the same as NO REFUNDS, which it is plainly not. It is, to me, very specifically NO CASH REFUNDS as it clearly is stamped. Unfortunately, these are the risks and costs of running a small business and it is really hard to believe that in 32 years not one person has received a refund from this place as they suggest. It's sad to say that this is why people shop big box and department stores. I won't let this situation leave a bad taste for all small businesses of course, but definitely for this one. I stood there a few minutes to plead my case - it's not the same, it's a charge refund not cash, it's less than a week that I've had them in my possession, I don't need them, nor do i need a store credit because I now have shoes etc. etc. and to no avail. She avoided eye contact, told me that if I wanted to stand there and fight her I could but it wouldn't make a difference, quickly wrote out my store credit, handed it to me and said if I didn't want it, to give it to my mother or someone. I have purchased shoes there last year for my sister-in-law's wedding, 3 of 5 proms and other events and I will not be returning to this store. Each time I find that I could kick myself for going back, the staff is rude and snobby despite the shop being completely run-down and a complete and utter mess. Their bridal selection is vast but has grown cheesy over the years, everything else in the store is as another poster said "tacky". I am disputing the charge with my bank to at least have some support. Ridiculous that a business can conduct itself like this no wonder they are in such poor shape as they say. Go elsewhere, there are tons of great local small businesses and boutiques around the city, this is not one of them.

So literally a day after I bought this top, I try to return it, and the person behind the counter says she can't accept it because the top was damaged. She pointed to these little white marks which I feel were very unlikely to have been caused by me as I had nothing that would change the color of the dye, but even if she was right that meant the top was not made out of quality material and $30 was an outrageous price to pay for it since it got ruined in a single night. I didn't even wear it for long. I could just as easily go to the rainbow across the street and buy something from clearance for 5$ that won't get ruined from a single wear and last me for several years. Yet Eternity insists on charging $50 for a lot of these items. It's a waste of your time and your money, honestly might as well stick to hot topic because at least they'll give u a full refund if anything breaks too fast.
