Feeding the animals!…read more Had a fun time at Fox's High Rock Farm petting zoo! There is an entrance fee and you can purchase food in ice cream cones and feed the animals. The goat and alpacas loved the food while the donkeys went wild for the ice cream cones! Once you finish feeding them outside the gates, you can enter the open field and pet and brush the goats, sheep, and hog. There were so many baby goats. I wish we had more sheep to see as well! The horses were also neat to see and they were so gentle and the alpaca were adorable! I'm glad we spontaneously stopped by on our way back from hocking hills!

Not many butterflies in late September, as expected, but we did see a couple, and there are still pretty blooms here and there. The place is divided into several areas: wetlands, woods, prairie, little gardens. A fairy garden, "treehouse," "cabin" to stop at. Lots of side trails and shortcuts. Well marked, and the map is great, but the owner going over the map with us helped a lot too. Free map; they'll sell you a pamphlet to go with it that gives more details and stories, and it's well worth the $1. Parking, bathrooms (outhouses,) a gift shop, and in general a nice break from the state parks.

This is a Hocking Hills hidden gem!…read more Butterfly Ridge is a must-see for everyone who loves butterflies, moths, nature and conservation. It's hard to describe Butterfly Ridge precisely, but I would say that it's kind of like a nature preserve that focuses on butterfly preservation, with outdoor activities for families, and a little gift shop/museum. After you check in, you're free to roam around the grounds and explore the 21-acre garden. There's a nature play area for kids, as well as a tree house where you can see the grounds from up high. Guided tours are available with the people who own Butterfly Ridge. They are super knowledgable about butterflies and moths, and love to talk about them. We really learned a lot about butterflies as we walked around the property, and our tour guides pointed out and identified the butterflies that we saw. Butterfly Ridge also offers a unique nighttime experience, The Mothing Zone, where visitors can view hundreds of moths and glow-in-the-dark caterpillars that you can only see at night! This nature preserve is closed during the winter, but if you're in Hocking Hills during the spring, summer and early fall months, this is a must-visit.

The end of the summer is a perfect time to stock up on beeswax candles for the upcoming cozy, mystical autumn days-- I'm so glad I did that this year! After we shopped, we checked out a mead tasting in the library just off of the main road and had a blast trying all the different flavors. I walked away with a bottle of orange blossom honey raisin mead for myself plus an extra bottle to include in a wedding gift. A new vendor addition was a shaved ice truck that had honey drizzle for all of the shaved ice. Yum! It's, of course, always a little more fun if it's sunny given the theme, but I still had a great time this year too.

The car show was cool, alot of very nice vintage cars to admire with owners willing to give you the story on them. A lot of kids, rides, snacks, games as well as live bands for adults and the usual fried foods and art/jewelry stands to browse. Also goes on the entire labor day weekend which is nice. Perfect for a stroll on a beautiful late summer day with the family.

The first go-round was understandable -- we haven't eaten the junky treats of fair food in years. So we loaded up on the first day with corn dogs and fried cheese. The next day, we found ourselves drawn back to the festivities at lunch. Ribbon fries. Elephant ears. Lemon Shake-ups. Yet more fried cheese. How are we still alive? I still feel a little sick. Along with the wonderful fair food, this 80-year-old celebration boasts the usual small town carnival stuff -- a midway with games, live music ( I heard at least three Journey covers), arts and crafts, a car show and a parade. No huge surprises, other than the fact that the small town of Canal does it up so big. It's a blast!

This is a small-ish festival in the heart of Grove city. I went on a rainy Saturday, and luckily,…read morethanks to the way it is set up, with many local businesses like Plank's being right in the middle of it, was able to stay dry when it poured, enjoy the festival when the rain let up. Tickets were $25 for 8 samples and a wine glass (10 samples if purchased ahead of time), 3 additional tickets for $10. This seemed pretty steep for two people, especially one who isn't that into wine, so we decided to share the one glass. I foind most vendors were very generous in their "samples", and very welcoming, knowledgeable about their wines. I was a little disappointed in the fact that most "dry" whites were Chardonnays, which to me are not dry wines at all, but did find a couple of Pinot Grigios, and some wonderful dry reds. There were artists, jewelers and other non-wine related booths as well. I was hoping to find a unique handmade anklet, and while I did not find what I was looking for, I did enjoy the jewelry booths. If you like wine and have never been, it is worth a visit, and even if you don't, it may still be worth a visit for the food trucks and other exhibits.

Love this place been coming since the 90s. The price is still on point for what you receive (better…read morethan anywhere else to see two movies and get food). The concession stand is great and selection you'd expect for a classic drive in. The pricing isn't awful for food either. I do miss the working audio but fully understand the heavy cost to replace and hoping they will get the money to keep it alive. Whenever we arrive it's always packed so make sure you get early for a spot and get tickets online if able. There is a slight surcharge for the online purchase. I do understand the need for balancing costs with adding a food permit payment. But just a heads up there is a food permit payment to bring in your own food but it's only about 6$ extra. Which is still worth the price savings compared to going to a big theatre. Even on their 5$ Tuesdays it doesn't match the price for here.
