Although we were tempted by the delicious looking bagels, my husband and I opted to have a salad each - which came with a bagel anyway. They were both terrific with lots of fresh ingredients and generous servings of protein. We didn't like the soup though - it turned out to be leek and potato cup a soup!

The café is tiny with maybe enough seats for 15 people at most so be prepared to wait to sit down around lunch time. The bagels also take a while to come out but you can see the bagels being carefully assembled before your eyes in the tiny kitchen by the very friendly owners. The range of fillings is great with salads, meats, seafood, cheeses and much more available. There are also more varieties of bagel bun than you can shake a stick at. The bagels themselves are very tasty and very sizeable, absolutely heaving with filling, actually maybe too much filling, the free flowing serviettes become a must have as things get quite messy. The range of drinks is good and their sizes are decent, the hot chocolate being double the size of puny equivalents found elsewhere. The counter of cakes is varied and enticing, and a slice of cheesecake serves as a tasty conclusion to a satisfying meal. With a meal deal offer, you get a bagel, a hot or cold drink and a dessert for under €10, which is a bargain in my books. It's a perfect place to have a late lunch if you can nab a table. I'll definitely be going again for those delicious bagels!

I didn't see the second level, but the first-floor dining room feels like the foyer of an old Nordstrom women's restroom if you covered the walls in rosy-yellow wood paneling. Nothing (except the menus) seemed particularly dirty, but everything seemed run down. I wasn't particularly inspired to order raw fish, so instead I ordered the gyoza (ravioli) menu- miso soup, cabbage salad, 8 gyoza (probably pork/chicken and green onion), and a bowl of rice. My favorite part of the meal was the cabbage salad. The miso soup was ok, if on the bland side, but there was something weird about the little leaves of algae; a metallic aftertaste that I've never experienced before. The gyoza were pretty tasty and landed right in that preparation sweet spot between tender on the sides and crispy on the bottom. On the downside, they were really oily, so I dabbed them off on my napkin before eating. The filling was also good, but I'd be curious to know whether the gyoza were prepared from scratch or reheated from pre-packaged. I was happy my meal came with rice, especially after I added some sweet soy sauce, but I don't understand why so many Japanese restaurants serve rice (when you order a dish that comes with rice) that is of significantly lesser quality than the rice they use for their sushi. I would come again if someone suggested it, but I don't think I would return out of personal volition. P.S. Do not forget to make a reservation. Asahi is open relatively late, but they have a high table turnover. When we arrived at 9:15 pm, both floors were almost full, and yet groups kept arriving for the next 30 minutes, asking for a table. And be nice to the servers. They're sweet if you give them a smile or say please and thank you, but they're also really busy. So don't judge them; they're doing their best.

We arrived before noon for a cafe and then decided to stay for lunch. Lunch starts promptly at noon, so we waited patiently to order their French onion soup, and here's where the experience deflated like a souffle. We tried to order the French onion soup prior to noon as we were not aware of the lunch starting time. The waitstaff knew we were interested in ordering the soup and as a matter of fact, several of the waitstaff knew this as it appeared we had at least three different servers at one point. DISCLAIMER - The western part of France is more know for its Moules and frites and crepes than French onion soup but it was featured on their menu and my wife wanted to try it. Once the clock struck noon, our server came, took our order for three cups of French onion soup and a couple of appetizers, and departed across the street to turn in our order. Ten minutes later... Je suis désolée mais nous n'avons plus de soupe à l'oignon aujourd'hui. Translation I'm sorry but we are sold out of French onion soup today. Translation #2 - REALITY We didn't make any French onion soup so it's not available today. I would have preferred the reality translation in lieu of being lied to. I know I may look like a tourist but the rest of my dining group lives in the area. My nephew ordered the Steak and frites and my aunt ordered the eggs. Overall, the cafe is quaint, has spectacular views, service is typical, and lastly, make sure to ask what's available before investing 20 mins of your time.
