What a hidden gem! The lost treasure of the pirates ... it wasn't gold, it was that house!…read more
A house built in the 18th-century and inhabited by merchants and corsairs of Saint Malo, the famous pirate town. My guided tour at La Ville-Bague was a travel back in time: - stepping into rooms filled with precious weapons, odd accessories and ancient correspondences - admiring striking boat replicas and exotic scenic tapestry - learning the use and placement of bizarre silverware items on a staged dinner table, way more sophisticated than in the memorable Titanic scene - above all my expectations.
Do you know the difference between the figurehead at the prow of British ships versus French ships? I bet they didn't teach you that one in history classes!
Visiting La Ville-Bague, I felt like a little mermaid diving in old seas and gazing at three-masted ships involved in epic battles over the gold from the Incas. Yes, some serious mind traveling.
I was lucky enough to come back to La Ville-Bague for a wedding in the summer of 2012. Such a beautiful setting! The cocktail was held in the gardens, the dinner inside the living quarters of the historic house and the dance party back outside under a tent. We stayed overnight in one of their lovely B&B cottage and the next day we all went to a wonderful beach only 5 min away. Makes me want to get married again:)
