Came here and got the sashimi salad special (well it was listed as seafood salad special). To my surprise, it had smoke salmon in it. That was weird. I mean you don't expect it from a Japanese restaurant. Well, I just so happen to be close by and it was raining and I just didn't want to walk so I picked this restaurant. Well, the restaurant is located downstairs and not many restaurants are like that. Line up went fast. Except one issue was that the time for them to prep the food took forever. Waited like a good 20 mins. Most people just did take out. My sashimi salad special came with a miso soup. But the miso soup was so salty, I couldn't drink it.

Sometimes a place is busy and it takes forever to get your food And sometimes a place is busy, but they are efficient so you don't have to wait forever. That also means the raw fish is never sitting around waiting to be used. Efficient, well priced and fresh sushi. Yay Rue 909 Sushi!

Order this box for lunch 15.00. Bit overpriced for the cheap ingredients they used. Rather go elsewhere. First and last time eating here

It's alright. Really nothing special but not bad. Quick service if you don't go during peak rush hour. Reasonable prices for the combo and bentos. I ordered the spicy dynamite combo- for them to claim to have the best spicy sushi, I was super disappointed that it was just a dynamite roll with sriracha on top? Also, I don't know if my expectations for a dynamite roll is off but I was thinking there would be avocado in it- this one has yam tempura and lettuce instead. I might go back and try the spicy salmon roll or the bento next time since it's nearby, but wouldn't go out of the way to come here.

4 stars for this 3 star sushi joint. Yes, in the neverending sea of Vancouver sushi joints, how does Rue 909 stand out? Well, the layout of their restaurant, for one. Rue is located in an orange (yes orange) basement. Surprisingly pleasing to the eye, the colour really gets your appetite going (no lie.) Service is speedy and efficient. As aforementioned, the food is mid-range, 3 star sushi. Bonus points for their comfortable, wooden benches. No complaints really!

[Sushi Underground] At first glance, the front of this place doesn't look like much. That's because like an iceberg, 90% is below the surface. Rue 909 is a sushi joint in the basement. While this doesn't sound overly appetizing, let me assure you it is. The sushi quality is actually quite good. And for those that care, it's all ocean-wise whatever that means (jk!). While the food is good, efficiency is what stands out here. They manage to process orders so quickly that even the longest lines on a friday lunch rush moves pretty quick. You order at the counter and are given an electronic buzzer that goes off when it's ready. Brilliant. The setup is much like Nandos - you order at the counter and seating is self-served. There's ample seating for 30 or so people but from experience, most take theirs to go. The dining area is pretty basic but it serves its purpose. Prices are also quite decent - my go-to is a $12 bento box combo that includes gyoza, spicy tuna roll, chicen teriyaki, salad, and a miso soup. Portions sizes are decent - large enough to get a big eater full and still able to be a productive worker bee afterwards.

    About $10 or so

For quick service, inexpensive sushi, decent quality, good quantity, and cute place downtown, you cannot go wrong here. They have combos perfect for lunch or dinner (e.g. some dinner combos come with a beer). Go for: one of the best quality-to-price ratio for quick sushi downtown Don't go for: lunch hour can get cramped quickly

This is another one of those places that I've been going to for a long time now and am surprised that I've never written a review for. Years ago it was the go to place for myself and colleagues. Now I'm lucky enough to work again within it's vicinity. When it comes to sushi, for me, consistency is key. I think even the poorest places can have a stellar day. What really matters is "How is the quality when you go back that second or third time?". I've always been pleasantly surprised that quality has never dipped, in all these years. There is a wide selection, everything has always tasted fresh. There is one caveat that I must stress. Make sure that you get here before noon unless you want to wait around. Due to the popularity of the location there can be extensive lines. I always try to on days I want to stop by set my lunch at 11:45 just to get in before the rush.

It's a small restaurant with a slightly smaller entrance beside Cactus Club and Royal Dinette. The orange walls make it hard to miss. Downstairs the restaurant is run by very polite Korean staff (in case if your English is bad, they get what you mean). One long table for groups with 4+ people and the rest are 4 seating tables. Best to keep your dining group small because it gets loud unless you don't mind raising your voice a little :) Menu is small and straight to the point. They have soft drinks, water and beers. You can order a beer combo too if you're say out for lunch or dinner with friends. I ordered the unagi-don today. The eel tasted a bit overcooked but I love unagi don regardless so they did a smackin' job. I recommend for casual eating or a hang out spot with friends :)))

3 for food, but 4 for the location and ambience for the DT crowd. Chances you're going to bump into someone but not past 7pm, when they close so it's primarily for the working professionals lol. Located near the popular Cactus Club on Burrard. Ordered the Deluxe Bento for $10.75: chicken teriyaki, dynamite roll, salad, gyoza, & tempura (small pieces).. all in all, a good variety but not gonna make run back for more anytime soon. Though I'd take this over food stuff any day.

    Dynamite combo: $9.95. Good!

I had been here a while back and remember not being impressed but decided to come in for a couple of quick pieces of nigiri and edamame. What a crap show I walked into. It's 5:30 on a Friday night and they have one waitress and one cook. She told me to sit where I like and as I look at the menu I glance around and realize every table is waiting for food. I figure that's ok cause I'm ordering so little. I'm not terribly upset about how long it took to eat my food and sake but other things were a gong show. I had to borrow soya sauce from someone else and then I noticed everyone was sharing soy sauce. The server was running around crazy because a four top wanted to pay separately and obviously took up her time. Well the cook was putting food up and people were just going to the counter to pick up their food so it didn't just sit there. Then she goes to actually deliver a tray to a lady and the order was incorrect so back into the kitchen it went. A couple that came in started clearing tables to make a spot available to them. Seriously she's so busy taking payments for the ever constant finishing customers that everyone who was seated was forced to grab their own or come up to the counter to order their food while she was taking payments. Not her fault but seriously, one extra person working would have not killed the budget as they aren't dirt cheap priced. My edamame was under cooked and rock hard. The nigiri salmon was good, the Ebi was meh. UPDATE: it's a Tuesday night at 6:15 and I was around the corner and craving sushi, I popped in to give it another try and it was night and day from last Friday. I was greeted and promptly given my sake and my food came up quick and good. The cute little waitress who was absolutely sinking last Friday quality checked me twice which is rare in Japanese restaurants. She was filling up teas and all smiles and everything was smooth. It's a shame that it's the polar opposite when they get busy. I encourage them to put someone extra on for a swing shift, lunch and dinner so that reviews are better.

Steep as it is, I decided I wanted a "quick little sushi lunch with a view", and a quick little sushi lunch with a few is exactly what I received. Although I don't recommend it, I walked right in from the street, no reservation, and was seated at the bar (in pretty casual street clothes I may add). I enjoyed a premium sake flight (which was fine...just fine), an old fashioned served with the perfect accompanying dark chocolate, and a good amount of sushi including their signature aburi style sushi in flight form and nigiri tuna flight (bluefin, chutoro, otoro). After visiting Japan last December, I'm a bit of an otoro snob but I have to hand it to them, all three of these cuts were perfect. The accompanying rice, perfection. The quality of the fish, divine. The view was the cherry on top of this experience. This will certainly be a spot I revisit next time I'm in Vancouver.

Michelin starred quality in their service by how they explained the menu, brought out the food, came back around to refill waters. Just top notch service and elegantly so. The food was good but not of value. Their lunch set was a good introductory to what they offer. I enjoyed the food for its flavours and presentation but I thought that it was a bit overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, fresh and definitely elevated, but it was $50 for 10pcs of sushi, 2 appetizer sized samples of their appetizer or entree dishes, and miso soup (which we did not get and didn't realize till much later in the day). If you're wanting an upscale experience (and portion) of good quality food or wanting to impress other parties, then this is a nice spot. For regular eats, it's a bit too luxurious to be a casual thing in my opinion. The ambiance is nice and calm. They have a patio, which has a meh view overlooking the harbor, but beware of a breezy day. It will catch a bit of a wind tunnel. They have heaters and blankets but the heaters don't really reach unless you're sitting next to it.

I completely understand that the space inside is limited, and waiting can be unavoidable. What made the experience less comfortable was not the wait itself, but the way it was communicated. Our wait staff were friendly and on point. They were considerate about answering our questions about the food and food allergies. Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close.
