Rudy has been on my list forever and I happened to be in the neighbourhood so decided to give it a try. It's a typical fast food joint - fries, burgers & milkshakes. I ordered the Fried Chicken sandwich and Poutine. The chicken was very juicy and very crispy however, I didn't like that there was fatty bits. The sandwich is quite small in comparison to other places so I basically had a few bites and left the rest. In terms of taste though it was good. Moving on to the Poutine. The fried could definitely have used more cooking like a lot more but the gravy and cheese helped mask that. There was a great amount of cheese curds and they were very squeaky meaning it was fresh. Probably the best burger joint in town. Their big Rudy is just too tasty. Bacon is too expensive.

I saw this restaurant on the Toronto food passport site and decided to give it a go. The storefront was pretty big for a burger place, with an open kitchen and two single spots facing the window. I love it when there are single spots so I don't feel awkward when I eat alone! I went up to order the rude dude burger--a double cheeseburger. Surprisingly they only take cash and debit, but you could order with ritual, pay with your card, and pickup. That's what I did. My burger was done in a few minutes. Holy crap. It was a really big burger. Cheese was melted perfectly and it just looked so delicious. I finished it in just a few bites. The meat is smashed and crispy at the edges with a lingering aftertaste of smokiness you can get out of brisket and some other choice cuts at times. Tasty patties. The bun is soft and fluffy and compliments the meat well. The toppings are simple and perfectly balanced for a simple burger like this. It's still one of the best Burgers in Toronto. Simple AF, tasty AF. And the patties have that lovely crispy burned edge. 5/5 mofos. Eat this. This might be a bit controversial but I really tried to be fair! My first impression was really positive by seeing they have their own name on their packaging, that makes customer loyalty. The fries were a bit cold but since I got a delivery I was not expecting perfect fries. The size of the fries was surprisingly big, which is good because I love fries. The burger had one of the best buns I have ever tried and the bacon, the tomatoes and the lettuce were seasoned perfectly. Now let's get to the issue, the cheese was supposed to be melted but this was almost like someone put the cheese on the burger and it was cooked unevenly. This was an amazing burger!! I got the Rude Dude, which is their double patty hamburger with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and Rudy sauce. The bun like mentioned in previous comments is so soft and tasty, I was in awe. The Rudy sauce is very good I can't really describe what it's made of but mayo is definitely an ingredient, nevertheless it kept the burger nice and moist! The patty itself was crispy on the edges and tender throughout. I also got the thin cut fries on the side and they cooked perfectly. Overall, I thought this was a great burger and dinner option! It looks like we have a new candidate for best burger in Toronto. I'd been wanting to check out Rudy for a while, as virtually every picture I'd seen of their burger looked amazing. We arrived just after noon on a Saturday and the joint was empty. We immediately placed our orders and the food arrived a few minutes later. I went with the Rude Dude ("double cheeseburger, lettuce, tomato & Rudy sauce") and it was glorious. The griddle-cooked patty contained an absolutely irresistible crust that I honestly couldn't get enough of. The meat itself was pretty juicy despite having been cooked past medium. The toppings were nothing short of perfect. Sadly, the meal was not perfect. We also got an order of fries to share and they were, quite frankly, terrible. They were a little undercooked and completely underseasoned. I don't think there was any salt on there, which made 'em the blandest fries I can easily recall eating. If you like a double cheeseburger, theirs beats all, and if you like Big Macs, the Rudy Mac puts the High Priest at Burger's Priest to shame. The skinny fries here are also pretty perfect. We really like Rudy and order from them somewhat regularly when we are craving fast food. It's definitely more expensive than McDonald's or a&w but the quality is ++++ better. They make super yummy smash burgers and personally I'm a big fan of their pickle chips! They also give you a really decent serving of fries when you order. I keep meaning to get a milkshake from there to try it out but haven't had a chance to yet! We live relatively close so whenever we order delivery it still arrives nice and warm. OVERHYPED !! I had the Valentino burger which is the fried chicken sandwich with mild sauce, and coleslaw. The chicken is dry and without the mild sauce there is no flavour, lacking taste. The coleslaw was next to nothing on that sandwich and I was so disappointed when I saw that too. I absolutely love the choice of buns they use for their burger though. Fried pickles were so good, and the sauce paired with it was good. Brownie was honestly the best part, it was so soft and overall delicious. My brother ordered the double Rudy (I think that was the name) and when he unwrapped it I asked "did they forget a patty?" LOL I'm sorry but when you think of a burger with double patties you think it'll be thick and juicy but it was literally small and dry.... Customer service was good, no complaints with that. I was excited to try Rudy's as they're known to be one of the best burger joints in Toronto. But they didn't really live up to my expectations. What I really didn't like was the fact that their menu literally only has three types of burgers, and technically two of them were the same just with an additional patty. I like a broad menu where I can select and fantasize about what things I'd like to come back for, but once you've gone to Rudy's twice, you would have had everything on their menu. So their burgers must be some heckin' burgers. I got the Valentino burger, which is essentially a chicken burger with valentino sauce and hot sauce. Their chicken is definitely five-star worthy - it was crispy on the outside but really soft and tender on the inside. The sauce is also good if you're into hot wings - same sauce. Their Rudy burgers are like any other burgers with their unique sauce. There also isn't much to their burgers - comes with patty and lettuce and tomato. That's literally it. I'm also a sucker for thin-cut fries so we got ourselves a bag. We added more salt to ours. It's a fair amount for $3 though. I wouldn't return to Rudy's again because I feel like there's nothing extraordinary about the place. I can find myself craving their Valentino burgers every once in a while though. read more

Alas, the burger was just ok, and tasted more like a facsimile of a Shake Shack burger than the real thing - like if your friend tried to cook you one at home as a challenge. The patties were the proper thinness and "smash burger" style, with decent crunch on the outside, but were a little too greasy and left an unpleasant, oily aftertaste. It's truly unfortunate that Toronto doesn't have a Shake Shack to it's name, but fear not, Rudy is as close to Shake Shack as you'll get in the city, and they do burgers awesomely. When you take a look at the burger (get a double, of course, and add bacon), everything you expect from a great smash burger is here: a squishy potato bun, super thin patties with a delicious, flavour-filled crust, gooey melted cheese, and all the other fix-ins. But then you take a bite, and all of the beef comes amazingly together with the rest of the burger that simply melts in your mouth. Before you know it, the burger is gone, and you're left to wonder whether you should get another. The fries are awesome too. Rudy is a fast casual restaurant where you order your food at the counter and then the staff brings it out to you if you are dining in. It's a no frills kind of burger restaurant with some paintings on the wall and a minimal menu selection (burgers, fries, and drinks). We each ordered the Rudy Burger which consisted of a cheeseburger, lettuce, tomato, and "Rudy Sauce" and a side of fries. Their Rudy Burger is on the smaller size of burgers. Even when I saw their photos on Instagram, I thought that they resembled the ones from our American neighbour, Shake Shack. I was really excited to try these and see how they fared. It didn't take too long for the staff to bring out our order. The burgers indeed did look like the ones from Shake Shack with a soft squishy bun and small size. We tried the fries first and weren't very impressed because they were over-salted and also just didn't taste very good; they were just regular fries really. Because there was so much salt on the fries (you could visibly see the huge salt particles on the fries), we banged the fries against its container to get as much salt off as possible. Next, we tried our Rudy Burgers. At first bite, I really liked them! My burger was a little bit on the raw/undercooked side but I was fine with this. It made the patty really soft and I liked it. I loved the cheese on it; it was so melted and tasty and did remind me of the Shake Shack ones again. Overall, I did like the burgers and understand the hype about them. They're almost like the Canadian counterpart of the Shake Shack burgers (for now). (They also seemed a little greasier in comparison too.) Personally, I think that if someone hadn't tried the Shack Shake burgers, they would think the one from Rudy is the best thing ever. I feel like I got a different experience than the other reviewers here. I was excited to try their burgers as I joined the #mealplanTO program where I got to try a menu item for $5 instead of the original price. My friend and I got the Rudy burger (originally got $7.15). The presentation of the burgers were really nice and vibrant but I wasnt really wow-ed with the taste. And when you call them up and ask for a refund on the cheeseless cheeseburgers, they doubled down and asserted that no, a plain CHEESEburger doesn't have cheese, and were incredibly rude and refused a refund. We got the Rudy (cheeseburger) with added pickles, Rude Dude (double cheeseburger), Fried Chicken Sandwich, Poutine, and Fries. The burger itself was very yummy. I ate the Rudy which was noticeably fresh and very hot. The burgers come out very vibrant and pretty! The bun was soft and warm, sauce good, and toppings fresh. Normally they don't come with pickles but you can add those on. I found the patty on mine was a bit too charred/cooked for my liking. Perhaps off the grill for a little less time and it would have been absolutely perfect! Fried Chicken Sandwich was very yummy! Chicken was moist and very crispy. Hot sauce very tasty but not overpowering - coleslaw tasty. Their poutine was very delicious!! I've seen photos before which look very appetizing, and the taste definitely did not disappoint. The fries are cut the perfect thickness and seasoned well before topped with a generous amount of cheese curds and gravy. It came piping hot! Fries on their own were very good! Overall - 4.5/5.0 Although this place has been opened for more than half a year, it has gotten quite a bit of hype recently as being one of the best burgers in Toronto and what seems to be the closest experience to Shake Shack/In & Out. After my visit this past weekend, I can definitely say that it was pretty much the best burger that I have had. Yes, better than Burgers Priest, In & Out and Shake Shack! Everything from their Rudy sauce, melted cheese to their super juicy beef patty - all complimented very well together into one cohesive flavour bomb in your mouth. I also liked the fact that it came out piping hot. The only thing that I could see an improvement on is the bun itself as it is quite soft - so given the explosive juices from the beef patty, it was quite a challenge to contain everything into the burger. This is my favourite burger place in Toronto! It's the closest burger in Toronto that tastes like the Shake Shack Burgers! The bun is so nice and buttery and soft. The patty is perfectly grilled which this nice char flavour to it. They have their own "Big Mac" sauce in the burger and it's so addicting. I have random cravings of this burger. Pretty decent burger. This is the "smashed" variety that's done on a griddle, and your choice is a single or double (both with cheese), and you can add bacon for a little more. Toppings are lettuce, tomatoes and special sauce (yep: it's ketchup and mayo, with maybe a little mustard or pickle juice in there). Served on a toasted bun. It's a great tasting burger and while it's not overwhelming size-wise, I did walk away feeling nice and full. Fries are also fairly good: thin-cut and medium-salty, not unlike those served by a certain clown down the street. To be honest I like the lack of big choices - your life would be better off if you let the person doing the cooking decide what you are going to eat. At Rudy, the burger's got nowhere to hide its sins and admittedly it has nothing to hide. It's got that mix of crispy, juicy and greasy bits that so few fast food places can nail down. Am I allowed to say it? Not as good as Shake Shack and In & Out, but for Toronto, you're doing pretty well here. Downsides here are: 1) it's slow as Christmas, even when it's not terribly busy. Even with four staffers on hand we waited and watched the four orders ahead of us crawl out of the kitchen at a snail's pace. It didn't help that the two front-of-house guys have that vibe of folks who would do better in a career where they don't have to serve customers. So I dunno - good food takes time and it's nice that food is made fresh to order, but damn. 2) there's not a whole lot of place to sit. There are some stools to sit at but they're mostly occupied by people who are waiting for their orders. So if you're looking for a sit-down experience, this won't work well. Dropped in tonight and it was busy, but soo worth it. The Rudy burger was in this nice soft bun that soaked up all juices of that perfectly grilled thin patty. If you're hungry, get the double patty burger.
