It was very handy for the centre of Christchurch, which is only a few minutes walk away - there was also a fair bit of parking (and plenty in the streets around). Our private double room was nice and quiet. It could have done with a couple more shower areas around the place, but it was always very clean. This kitchen area was very good, although like most places it was very busy for a good 2 hour period each night. The staff were helpful and very friendly. It definately isn't your average party hostel and we would thoroughly recommend it.
Pretty sweet backpackers we had there in ChCh. Stayed there for about two weeks, while trying to…read moresell our van. The guy working at the reception was pretty helpful, and had a lot of tips, including a sheet with car-selling and -buying information. Rooms were pretty cool, although we stayed in a 6-bed dorm that just had a small window - so the air got pretty nasty some nights. Beds were good though. Kitchen was always kept clean by some backpackers working for accomodation. The living room was cosy, and there were always people to hang out with and talk to if you got bored. Still, best thing about that clean and cosy backpackers was the quite central location. You got a 10 to 15 minute walk to the centre of ChCh. We've been there last autumn. Don't know how things go back there since that massive earthquake though. Hope all you guys are okay down there! Cheers!

The joint bathroom design may not appeal to some, but it's really not that bad. The beds were comfortable, the staff were super friendly, and we did not have a problem finding parking. The prices are also very appealing, way cheaper than most accommodations around the area. If you're traveling light, stay here!
Cool place for a hostel! I feel privileged to be able to stay at a place like this. Nice old…read morehistory, or old... The last inmate was put here in 1999 if we understood it correctly. They've kept some cells, used metal bar doors as tables and they kept original doors and stuff. Really neat. Good service, BBH card works, same price for twins, doubles, singles. 89$ January. Really clean kitchen, good places to sit, small cinema room AND TV lounge with DVDs, DVD player in the room (!) and a pool table! Perfect place to stay for a night. I highly recommend it. 500mb wifi is included. Parking just outside for free. How awesome is that!

Common area and kitchen are also huge, kitchen is well stocked. Not very social though. One comment: female dorm rooms are more expensive than mixed dorms. Is that fair? Let's think about why women might want women-only dorms. One reason is because men are often creepy and don't treat women the way we should be treated. As a result, we feel safer in women's dorms. So not only do we already have to pay for period products for about 40 years of our lives in additional to birth control, the discomfort / fear / anxiety coming from how men treat us is being capitalized on? Think again, hostel owners.

I didn't want to spend too much on accommodation, so I booked a night at LyLo. I got a queen room with a private bathroom, and it was very clean and simple. The room was a bit small and lacked amenities, but I didn't mind since I only paid about USD $100 for the night. There is a small shopping plaza next door with some fast food restaurants and a grocery store. The hostel is also nearby CHC airport. It does take about 15-20 minutes by car to get to the city center though. Overall I had a good experience. FYI JUCY Snooze has now been rebranded to LyLo.

My family shared a triple room, which had plenty of space and three comfortable single beds. Parking is included; Wi-Fi is not. The only problem is that the doors of rooms & bathrooms all close crazy loud, yet they provide little sound insulation. So when several people down the hall started getting up around 6:30-7am, the bangs echoed. A white noise app was no match.
