My sister and I cruise often - having been on more than 20 cruises with different cruise lines. However before even going on the cruise I am feeling very disappointed. The prices for drinks are astronomical - even including water! They do not allow plastic bottles of water but talk about cans and cartons. Whoever saw water in cans or cartons! Mind you they are offering 6 16oz bottles of water for $27.60. What a rip off! The drinks packages are also a joke. Upwards of $50 dollars. for a 14 day cruise that makes $700 each!!!! The wine package for 6 bottles is over $200. I have never known such packages at such prices. This is going to be my most sober cruise - maybe the odd glass of wine with dinner! I shall never cruise with Holland America again. They are going to have to work exceptionally hard to make this cruse one that i shall remember for the right reasons - not the rip off ones. Dorothy.

We sailed The Maasdam from Montreal to Boston late May. First time on Holland America. In spite of…read morethe horrible condition of this ship, our friends and we made the most if it. However, the ship was in disrepair, food so so and public/private spaces not really clean. The stateroom when we boarded had dirty glasses, a lipstick stain on the sheet, scratched furniture, brown water coming out of the shower, shall I go on? Needless to say we called service immediately. Having upgraded to a suite thus was bad form! Furniture looked like a frat party remnant. Public areas were sketchy, broken furniture in The Crows Nest along with cracks in the windows., stains on carpet. Seating worn. Rusted infrastructure.!Want more? Paid for an upscale dining package. Both restaurants had so so food. Gourmet look, cafe quality. Service was good however. There window coverings torn. Buffet was good. Lots of choices. The entertainment in the Ocean Lounge was good but the showroom entertainment was awful. Comedian just not funny, guitarist ok but not personal. The dancers were good. All in all I would say try another line. For the money we spent the Massdam not worth it. We were sad as lots of the elderly guests saved for years for this dream vacation. I personally felt it was a staff training ground . Did hear it goes into dry dock in August for rehab, needs it! Wont stop us sailing but will br leery of this line.
