Her name is Kira, beautiful dog she is, in the letter it states - Who's in your dog pen - Kira, she was bought online and then given up. Also states they have enclosed a picture of her, she looks lovely. I wanted her age, birthday and where she is located so I can send her a doggy hamper gift. Then when woodgreen contact me back about it, she is an example dog..... The dog they clearly told me was MINE never was, she is an example. I was told I would receive all information on MY DOG but they sent me details on an EXAMPLE DOG as my own. I am truly truly hurt and disgusted by the fact that I was actually making a difference. SIGN UP TO A REAL CHARITY AND MAKE SURE YOU LOOK INTO IT FIRST.

I made them promise one thing many times before I made the choice to give her up and that was they would let me know BEFORE if they had to put her to sleep so I could be there. Today they emailed me to say they had put her to sleep after they had done it. I am in utter shock. Seems it was cancer and they could have waited for me to come in and be there with her at the end so she wasn't alone with strangers. Now they are not replying about her remains. These people are utterly evil, do not trust them, I am now looking at suing them for breach of promise.

But the "senior managers" enjoy exercising their bureaucratic power to leverage your emotions and to the detriment of the welfare of the animals in their care. We were approved to rehome a pet. This is a dog with a number of health and behavioral problems. We were willing to pay the fee upfront. But we needed a few extra days as we were arranging shipping, also paid upfront and for which the shipping company requires some extra notice. Despite us all working toward an understanding over the course of a week, an entirely different Battersea "senior manager", suddenly insisted that the pet be taken immediately or would be released from reserve. In other words, despite us making financial and time commitments, and with the understanding it was all agreed, a faceless "senior manager" decided they needed to move some inventory and told us to come down and get him or lose his reserve status. As it stands, the extra wait time we were requesting was six calendar days. Their usual process to complete an adoption is multiple visits spanning one to two weeks. And the pet only came out of medical clearance three days ago so is well within their 35 day average stay before rehoming. We cannot go ahead and pay, in advance, all of the other companies involved if the dog may be taken by someone else, even if he would still be in their kennel. We therefore had to walk away. So, now, this poor animal who has special medical and behavioral needs, will have to sit around for several more weeks in the kennel, on show as it were, hoping someone will be interested. The oxymoronic aspect of this story is that this so-called "senior manager" refused to keep him on reserve for a few extra days because remaining in the kennel is stressful. But by forcing us to walk away, he or she has increased the pet's expected kennel time and potentially eliminated his adoption options entirely. Clearly, the whole affair smacks of a bureaucrat trying to leverage a pet lover's emotions using facetious animal welfare arguments to move inventory. They may be a charity, but let's not forget managers have ambitions and are promoted based on such metrics as "stock turnover." But, even on this basis, this was a poor decision. Because, instead of a guaranteed "sale", just a few days later, they now have a poor dog who will likely be in the kennel longer than otherwise would have been the case. And what happens if the poor animal doesn't find a new home? Well, as they say, the average adoption time is 35 days...

Daybreaks Trust - Dave the dog (AKA Magical Climate) at Daybreaks Kennels

I am a proud owner of one very sweet, very pampered greyhound - he's currently called Dave but…read moreprior to that he used to race at Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium, under the moniker 'Magical Climate'. He was actually quite good - although this is a bit of a surprise to me and my Mom, as he now spends his retirement loafing about on the sofa, begging for tripe sticks and being tickled under the chin. We got Dave from Daybreaks Kennels which is home to the Perry Barr Retired Greyhound Trust and which is run by an amazing woman called Ruth Boswell. Dave was a bit of a state when we first laid eyes on him - without wanting to lay on the schmaltz too much years of racing had rendered him threadbare of tail, gammy of tooth and with what one could only describe as a 'lean and hungry look'. However, with Ruth's care - and lashings of tripe sticks, Dave made really good progress and although I'm obviously biased I think its fair to say he is a really handsome, jolly dog now. As for Daybreaks itself - the kennels are open daily and you can arrange a viewing by phoning ahead. If you're feeling particularly soppy you can also check out their website where you will be greeted by photos of dogs who need a home. This is a brilliant place run by a dedicated, extremely lovely team - they are always happy to offer advice on homing procedure, guidance on the right sort of dog for you and will happily talk to you after you've taken your dog home. As well as the kennels there's a shop that sells collars, leads, beds, food, toys and well...all sorts really.
