As promised, here's a review of a small annex BBQ/dim sum carryout shop owned/operated by the Royal Queen in Flushing NY Chinatown. We had just packed our luggage & ready to check out at the Hyatt, but before we left Flushing we went shopping to buy a dim sum lunch for our daughter & family who live in Park Slope, Brooklyn. It was only a 4 block walk away, saw the roasted ducks hanging in the window when we walked to the Royal Queen for our banquet dinners earlier that weekend. To our fortune, it was a gem of a find for us, the dim sum was excellent: tasty & delicious. We purchased harr gow (shrimp dumplings), sel mai (steamed pork & shrimp dumplings, steamed char sel bao, & about 4 more items. We were impressed by the freshness of the ingredients & size of the portions. For example, the size of the harr gow was at least 50% larger than most and contained all shrimp. You still got 4 harr gow per order, but the large size of the dumplings was impressive. We were lucky to stumble upon this place because there's many BBQ shops in a Chinatown and in my opinion, we found a memorable one. Needless to say, that was good dim sum! They also sell roast pork, roast suckling pig and of course, roast duck. I bought a small portion of roast suckling pig for my son-in-law, and the skin was so crispy & meat so flavorful and tender that it "melted in your mouth". I probably should end this review..,but... Here's a family secret: when you have a yearning for PEKING DUCK, but don't want to pay $60-$75 in a restaurant, buy a roast duck (like I did from Royal Queen BBQ ($34), and have Peking Duck at home. I've watched waiters carve a duck many times so I copy them. My carving skills might not be as good, but I get the job done. YOUTUBE can help if you're a novice. So we have a ROAST duck, not exactly a PEKING duck, but close enough for us. Then go buy a few extra ingredients at a Chinese grocery store: rice buns (steam them before eating), dai kon (white radish), green onions, cucumber, carrots, hoi sen sauce, shred veggies & lo and behold, you have a Peking duck meal. If you can't get rice buns, use soft flour tortilla skins, or use lettuce leaves, like in a lettuce wrap-less carbs!. Some restaurants use the extra meat to cook a stir fry and the bones to make a soup. At home we skip the 2nd & 3rd courses. However, my wife uses the bones to make congee (a rice porridge)-it's delicious, very flavorful, just strain the bones. Went here last night for a fraternal organization dinner. Huge space on the third floor of a mall building. Food was good. Bar service was not. 99 tables of 10 people each is a huge event. They only had two bars operating with a total of 4 bartenders. And halfway through the evening, one bar station closed, leaving only one bar with two bartenders for a crowd of nearly 1,000. Really enjoyed my dining experience, I'm surprised with all the negative reviews, I really enjoyed the meal and the services. The service was very fast and the servers are very attentive, changed our plate couple times when they are full, refill the hot water for the tea without even asking, cleared the empty plates as soon as they were finished to clear space for more orders. Came for dim sum on Saturday at noon, there's a line but moved fast as they have a huge space of the entire floor. I didn't see people have to share tables even some of them are party of two just took the whole round table. There are a good amount of selection of dim sum, probably with most variety compare to all the places I've been to. Didn't even get to try all of them from one visit. Their portion is also huge, for example the spinach shrimp dumplings are filled with shrimps, at least 3 full shrimps in each dumpling. All the dim sum are jumbo size. Highlights are the spinach shrimp dumplings and runny egg yolk buns. The deep fried lobster needs improvement, served cold and the batter is too thick and sweat, also the lobster doesn't taste fresh. Also the clam is a bit bland, better somewhere else stir fried in garlic ginger and a little bit spicy. read more

Right off the bat, I was impressed with the sheer size of the portions. Dumplings and shumai appear jumbo sized. You really will good a good bang for you buck. Servers are both attentive and friendly, and we're super quick to bring you something if asked. For example, in other places I've asked for a spoon or drink and the server will make 3 other stops. Here they brought whatever you asked right away. The only dish I didn't enjoy was the fried lobster. They used a sweet batter that was too thick, making it more like eating bread. I would rather have preferred a light "tempura-like" frying so there'd be more focus on lobster flavor. Also it would have been better with a savory / saltiness rather than sweetness. Overall, I couldn't really taste the lobster itself and would not recommend ordering it. Disclaimer: they also serve crab in the same style as the lobster, though I did not try it. Here are few highlights of the dishes we ordered. -Egg Rolls: not something I really order, but felt like trying. These were filled with mushrooms. 4/5 -Pork Ribs: really good, based with pumpkin chunks. -Pig Feet: really good, was missing bones for the most part. Uses a sweet bbq glaze. -Spinach Dumplings: fantastic, filled with shrimps. Get soy sauce though as they are a bit dry without. -Tofu Shumai: came with two pieces each of shrimp and pork. This was biggest surprise of the meal. Didn't look that appetizing, but was delicious. You will need a spoon though. -Taro Cake: not my favorite, was but wasn't bad. Prefer to have the Radish Cake instead. -Fish Cakes: surprisingly very good. -Clams: just okay, I wouldn't order again. Fresh but I prefer a lighter sauce Best dish was dessert though - Custard Buns. These were absolutely perfect. Received them hot with gooey, runny yolks. Overall, great restaurant that is deserving more than just 3 stars. My husband loves dim sum, which can sometimes be challenging to find really good dim sum. We've looked at Royal Q a few times, but hadn't been. On a random search, I read an article that listed it as one of the better places to go in NYC. So, we gave it a whirl. Located on the third floor of Flushing's New World Mall, the place is a bit overwhelming at first glance, as it doubles as an event space for weddings, which they happened to be hosting the day we went. I'm not always a dim sum person, but I figured, when in Rome, or in Flushing's Chinatown, we might as well try a bit of everything (well, within reason. We don't do chicken feet or testicles.) They offer a little bit of everything for every dim sum tastes, from the simple shrimp rice rolls to dumplings of every shape and size. And most everything was truly delicious and divine. (There were a few things that were not necessarily of our liking, but that's about our tastes and not about the food.) What I loved here was the wide variety and the authenticity of the food they serve. You won't find any Americanized versions of dim sum here. This is the real deal. And best yet, the prices are more than reasonable. Depending on the size you get (S, M, L), it can range from $3 to $8. You get a sheet with all the items and then check off the ones you want. They also have a huge menu of non dim sum offerings too. We've been to other "authentic" dim sum places in Chinatown and others parts of NYC, and this is definitely one of the better ones and truly a testament to the tradition of the meal. We weren't there during their weekend brunches, which is when the crowds line up. During those meals they come around with carts for you to choose from. We are definitely coming back to try that. Decided to visit this place after being recommended multiple times. The food is not bad, but nothing to go back to if you are not in the area. I came here a few times when it was known as Grand. I didnt even know they changed it to Royal Queen until a friend invited me to a dinner at this place. The decor is very modern and neat, it felt pretty Grand. The old restaurant name really just felt more right. The food wasnt spectacular and wasnt completely disappointing, it was very average. I didnt hate nor like the food. The service was a hit or miss. I came here for 2 dinners and 1 time the waiter wasn't attentive and the other time a waiter was very attentive and got everything promptly. I wouldn't rule this place out for future meals and meet ups, but if I don't ever return, this place will not be missed. read more

Visited Royal Queen for a group party with a private room. Room is typical layout with large table for ~25 people with lazy susan in the middle along with a TV playing Chinese pop music. Restaurant does show its age though private room fairly welcoming and comfortable. Most staff very accommodating and punctual. Place appears to get fairly busy during lunch hour. Conveniently located on the top floor of a shopping mall. Very good selection of dishes, particular the lobster pilaf/fried rice. Also a steak dish that was fairly tender. read more

From a food quality perspective, they're pretty good in taste and presentation. There are just a few things that warrants this a 2 star rating. 1. Location and accessibility - located on the top floor of New World Mall. Main escalator was shut down and we had to go through J-mart, and then find another escalator in the mall to get upstairs. 2. Multiple parties happening - it's quite hectic and looked like there was some sort of talent show that was extremely loud and could be heard in our private room. 3. Restrooms - Shared between the restaurant and the Karaoke. You'll find cigarette butts in unflushed toilets in the mens room. It's pretty nasty but unfortunately I'm pretty used to this sight from other Ktv venues. 4. Employees - They seem pretty nice and was able to get us things like knives and water when asked. But I also noticed that they have a table set up right outside of our private room with playing cards and signs of gambling. Being asian, again this is not abnormal but just not a good look having it out in the open. Besides the points above, the food was good and the private room was clean. My company threw a big year-end party here, so we had some hundreds of people eating in for the night. First of all, tableware is dirty as hell. Stains are not only visible but up to the level of obvious, disgusting, and even disturbing, knowing you are going to eat with those. My colleague wiped the glass with a napkin, and she found the napkin with plenty of dirt. Secondly, average service with bad attitude, one of my colleagues asked the waitress if she could help us divide portions of food for everyone, the waitress yelled "no" in my colleague's face. Plus, their arrangement was weird. Our table sat next to the waiter's area where they would serve food. And every time there's a new dish, we always get served on the last round. So you can imagine the whole table just hungrily and confusingly stare at the waiters as they walk by with dishes in their hands but never get to us. What doesn't make sense is that every table around us gets served early. That'll remain forever a mystery unsolved. Our table is also awfully close to where they dispose of leftover food. When I say awfully close... I mean I can literally see the trash can and every time they throw out the food. Not complaining but like... at least hide the trash can a little bit better where people who's enjoying their food won't see. Food is slightly below average. Had better ones. Needs to mention a deep-fried steak, not sure if that's for catering only, make sure you don't order that. Chefs failed on seasoning, it tastes sour and gross. And I bite on something oddly crunchy when I was eating cold dish, when there's nothing in the dish that supposed to sound like that. I immediately spit it out but didn't see what exactly was in it. Hopefully nothing more disgusting than the tableware, but considering I found a short hair (def not mine cuz I have long hair and I tied up my hair) in my food, well... At Royal Queen, you can rent out a private room. We usually order the banquet multi course meals. What we usually do is switch out dishes on the banquet menu for things we like or haven't had in awhile. You know - swap out the vegetables you don't like to eat. Try to talk them to switching out the beef for lamb. Try to sweet talk yourself to getting better service/food come out to the kitchen quickly. Call all the servers young ladies or bosses. You know the drill. Develop a good rapport and then they will take care of you. All the food here are cooked pretty well (nothing too greasy or over the top in spices or seasoning). If there is something you didn't like then you probably ordered the wrong item. I liked all the dishes. The bathrooms could be upgraded/cleaned more often. Time to look at the pictures (yum)... This is my go to dimsum spot in flushing. The space is huge and despite the business on the weekends, the wait is minimal because of the size of the restaurant. Their dimsum always comes out piping hot and the options are aplenty. Servers are a little dismissive but they're actually really nice. They're just too busy to linger around you if you don't know what you want. Favorites here are the sticky rice and the rice noodles. Also a pretty decent spot for Chinese weddings. I just love dim sum. I'm so happy I discovered Royal Queen conveniently located inside the New World mall. Did not know about it, until I had to search for a dim sum spot with Jade being closed down. Took the escalator up to the third floor and was seated immediately. This venue is ridiculously huge, but they have many carts continuously going around with a wide range of dishes to choose from. It is basically a dim sum factory by day. The shrimp and pork shumai, and pork buns were my favorite. The steamed bbq pork buns were so good, I ordered a second round to take it to go. They even had soup dumplings. Would go back to satisfy my Sunday Dim Sum cravings. Only thing is the food didn't come out piping hot. I really loved the variety of dim sum that they have! It can really satiate any dim sum needs that you have - whether savory or sweet! The service was also really great. They changed our plates and even removed all the empty dim sum plates pretty often and when I asked for water or juice, they brought it promptly. Additionally, I really liked how hot all the food is! It was piping hot and freshly made so it tasted super good. The carts also came over really often so you didn't have to chase the carts since they circled around all the tables pretty evenly. My favorite item is definitely their lava bun! It was a good ratio of filling to bread and gushed our when you broke into it. They cooked that item to the perfect temperature. I love this place. I love the food and the service here!!! The spicy chicken in chengdu style is my favorite. It is soooo tasty. After the first bite, the special seasoning still stays on your tongue. The deep fried chicken is the crispiest chicken I have ever had. Eat it with lemon, and the oil will balance out resulting in the most delicious chicken The assorted seafood dumpling is amazing. After one bite. It has at least 5 different kind of tastes. We love this dim sum a lot. And it costs less than $7 Speaking of dim sum, the mango sago was another surprise. It had pieces of fresh mango I will definitely come back. Stumbled upon this place at New World Mall. We came at noon and the dim sum was fantastic! All the food was excellent and we felt like we got good value for what we paid for. I would order everything again except the fried crab and duck. Those two dishes were not on a steam cart and got very cold. Beware! The food cart servers can be a little aggressive and pushy about their food. But let's be honest... I rather have attention than try to flag servers down. This is my first time trying this restaurant out and in one word, it's UNDERRATED. It's located in New World Mall on the 3rd floor, which is why it might be overlooked (because people gravitate towards the downstairs area with a wider variety of food choices). The interior of the restaurant is very fancy and spacious, which is also very family-friendly. As soon as we were seated, we were provided with a regular menu and check-off menu for Dim Sum. The servers were all exceptionally attentive to my boyfriend and I, and very respectful despite our language barrier (we're Korean). Honestly, we don't know much about Chinese food, so we ordered anything that we thought sounded good. And truth be told, everything was high-quality and delicious. I attached some pictures of the food we ordered, so I highly recommend them! In short, atmosphere was friendly & comfortable, service was excellent, and food was more than satisfying!
