Royal Queen has a great space above the Main St mall in Flushing. You have to navigate a few escalators to get to the floor, but this is meant to wet your appetite. We sat at a big family table and the dim sum orders began. As one of the pickiest eaters, it was my job to translate what the whole table wanted into select bamboo containers and dimsum plates. Among my favorites were the cha siu roll, fried puff pastry around sweet Chinese bbq pork. The pork spare ribs were a family favorite, but I started with the master "tester" dish of chicken feet to see who was with it this fine Sat morning. The downside was service was scattered upon arrival since there was a change of shifts. The rice noodle dishes also arrived to the table much soggier than usual. This either means it sat around for too long or they poured sauce early on the plates to speed things up. Not a great dish compared to a fresh preparation. This is a pretty good place to have some cart-style dim sum in a large restaurant. The staff are frequently walking around, making sure your old plates are quickly taken off the table. However, depending on where you are seated, you will either see the dim sum carts often, or very infrequently. In that case, you'd need to put in the extra effort to walk up to the carts instead. Some notable food items include: Egg Tart: Super flaky crust, and the egg tart falls apart in your mouth beautifully. It can be a bit buttery, so I'd only eat one single tart per serving. The egg custard filling was very smooth and a good amount of sweet. Chicken Feet: Pretty average for a dim sum place, good amount of sauce. Golden Egg Yolk Steam Bun: Honestly quite bad, the bun was kind of soggy and one of the buns had already leaked when it got to our table. The filling was ok, but definitely had better 流沙包s. Rice Rolls: The type of rice rolls usually found in dim sum places, which are thicker and more chewy. The shrimp was good and the beef was nicely seasoned. A good amount of soy sauce for all 3 rice rolls per plate to be dipped in. Fried Sesame Ball: Pretty yummy, not too sweet and still had a warm filling inside. Royal Queen is a very good restaurant for a specific purpose, that is, hosting a large event with 10 plus people. It is not ideal for small dinners and there are better dimsum options, but it really is the OG for these banquet style meals in Flushing. I was lucky enough to have partaken in such a meal last night for a family birthday, featuring around 50 people in the large private room of the restaurant. The meal spread across four tables, with each dish being very good to show stopping. Some of the highlights include the lobster fruit salad (weird combo but great), the fried crab legs, and the braised noodles (yi mian). One other note, many of the servers do not speak English well, which explains a lot of the low ratings on this yelp page. It is unfortunate, but there are hosts that do speak English well that work here. read more

Came here for a work function to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Super spacious, fancy decor but not very clean bathrooms and the 20+ karaoke room area wreaked of cigarettes which is typical for almost all the Asian CCTV Music rooms in Flushing. We didn't get a choice to pick our menu but it was your typical.Chinese New Year cuisine: elaborate, huge portions and at least 11 courses. I personally liked it but my Korean side needed garlic chili sauce. Great presentation, subpar customer service (no water for the table, just soda and wine) but food was still better quality than most banquet halls. read more

I was hear for a wedding and they came out with lots of food like typical Asian weddings are. The appetizer platters were decent and they even had duck too. Overall most the food was pretty lack luster but a good wedding. Tbh the best dish was that duck platter. Salmon: actually really good. Like one of the freshest ones I have tried before. Lobster: great cook but no flavor. Everything else: going dish by dish down the pictures after those two; everything was subpar. Flavor wise it's hit or miss but nothing really stood out. Whenever I visit the fam or friends in Queens, this has always been my dim sum spot and it has never failed me! The food is always consistent and fresh - I always end up getting the same dishes but I like to try something new once in awhile. My favorites here are the Shumai and the Fried Dumplings with a side of red chili sauce. There are a variety of dim sum selections to choose from and there is also an area where you can request other dishes that are made to order. Enjoyed my experience here for a friend's wedding. So my review is from the viewpoint of a wedding guest who dined in a rented section, not that of a typical diner. Experiences may be similar, but just something to keep in mind. Took the elevator up to the third floor of the New World Mall, where the restaurant is located. Spacious and high-ceilinged with chandeliers and elaborate lights, Royal Queen is a lovely venue for formal events. There were also bouquets of flowers. The large room was beautifully decorated. The cocktail hour foods (biscuits, little cakes, and fruits) were in my opinion somewhat dry (no moist cocktail hour foods). Good availability of drinks, both for open bar and to order additional drinks for your table when dining. Out of the dishes we were served, my favorites were the French style grilled lobster with cheese and the sweet sticky rice with syrup. My table devoured the lobster, so unfortunately that wasn't one of the dishes I took home. The steamed whole sea bass, as one of the last entrees served, was not touched, so I took that home. That's one of the cool things: at the end of the event/meal, you can ask for take-home containers to take whatever leftovers you want. Of course, being in Queens which is infamous for difficult parking (availability-wise), I've gotta advise on our parking situation: we had metered parking and then, after 2 hours, moved the car to a parking garage near the New World Mall. That said, be prepared to pay for parking. The garage is probably the easiest option. Considering the hassle of getting and having to pay for parking, your time at Royal Queen would feel more worth it if you have additional things to see/do within the New World Mall itself or if you're going there for a specific event as I did. Not needing to a How To Guide for Dim sum as I've been to Jing Fong a handful of times. I remember this street from many years back when I was a little boy and I kinda remember the building. After meeting my friend and stepped off the elevator the richly jeweled chandeliers hanging twenty feet, other hanging illuminated ornaments stopped me and I spun slowly looking upwards - what a beautiful moment. It was Gertz about 40 years ago and I was in the Husky aisle getting fitted for a navy sport jacket for Our Lady of Mercy 5th grade beginning of the school year - let's wipe that memory account out of my mental banks. We were quickly seated, it took a moment for me to settle in. One of the many things I love about Dim Sum is that each and every dish is hand crafted. I love that the varieties are tremendous, it's a wonderful day to be dining with my friend. My family would not come with me if it were next door to my house, they're such plain Jane eaters, some others I asked for my next time around gave BS excuses - it's too far, messing up their clothes - skiddish of using foreign implements all fear of the unknown blah blah banter - I took a few cute dates to other Dim Sum restaurants and they typically just giggle a lot. Pressing your nose to the outside glass, it'll appear hectic to those Not in the Know but as the little touches of the heart roll by, you can always ask what it is if your unsure what it is and what's inside. The bamboo covers lift revealing a plume of kitchen hot steam - I started with four choices which is appropriate for two people. Starting with my favorites: Cha Siu Bao - pork buns, Feng Zhao - chicken (Phoenix) feet -- slightly odd upon first glance but be adventurous and have a try - daibu (misspelled it, it's beef) Sui Mai - shrimp dumplings. I want proper dim sum with push carts all the time. Haha. It's been a long time since I had dim sum in New York. We ordered a few things to share. Everything was great. There are some more food variety up here than getting dim sum down south. My parents enjoyed the shu mai with abalone on top. I am not a fan of abalone. They have more dumpling variety as well. I'd say it's about 3.5 stars. This is my go-to dim sum spot in Flushing because I've never had to wait for a table. The place is ginormous! I'm sure there are other dim sum spots that may be better/cheaper. But I like to stick to what I know. I do have to warn you that they do always seem to have an event going on where either one section of the restaurant is divided and there'd be microphones being used for talking/singing. Usually very bad singing lol. So, expect those annoyances. Last time I was there they had a party in a private room and the aforementioned bad singing was still audible lol. This tends to be common in these large banquet restaurants. The restaurant soundtrack aside, the dim sum is solid. Definitely on par with any good dim sum restaurant. A plethora of choices. Pre-covid they had stations serving stir-fry specialties, and other types of dishes not from the cart. Not sure if they still do that. This review is based solely on a wedding reception dinner for around 150 people. Not the best but not the worst. While I enjoyed some of the dishes offered, nothing was memorable although everything was well presented. There was no time to savor the food because there was no break in-between courses. A new dish would come out when we were not even halfway done with our current plate. The restaurant follows the same schedule as the mall so we were rushed to leave before the mall closed. It is located in New World Mall on the topmost floor and shares the space with a karaoke bar. To get to the bathrooms, you have to walk past the entrance to the bar and its couches/waiting area in the hallways. That wouldn't necessarily be a problem except for the hallways smelling of cigarette smoke and the bathrooms smelling of urine. A few of the groups waiting for a room in the bar were raucous and seemed drunk. In terms of parking, there is a parking garage in the basement and is free if you remember to get a voucher for it by the end of the night. The garage closes with the mall so make sure to get your car before then or you'll need to leave your car overnight and find another way home. read more

It gets pretty busy on the weekend- located on the top floor in the New World Mall (it is right near the real KTV place). I came here Sunday for Dimsum around 11, decent amount of people. My friends came early and got a table already- thank goodness otherwise there would be a wait. The dimsum is average. I had a huge dimsum craving and really wanted chicken feet, shrimp crepe, etc. The flavor is ok....I think there are better dimsum places in philly I am just not sure where the good dimsum places are in flushing. I came today around 1:30pm with two friends. It was pretty busy when we arrived but definitely had died down by the time we left. The restaurant is really quite massive (almost the entire third floor of the New World mall) and it took us just a few minutes to be seated. I know a lot of dim sum restaurants started phasing out the more traditional serving carts during covid (in favour of ordering on paper), but I'm glad that Royal Queen still kept this fun tradition - and we got our first 'round' of dishes very quickly. Overall, the food was not bad, but I don't think there was anything in particular that stands out in my memory. The pork spare ribs were juicy and tasty, radish cakes were a nice starchy complement to the meat dishes, and the rice rolls - both shrimp and youtiao - were pretty good. The buns were somewhat disappointing - we had char siu and custard buns, and while the fillings were delicious, the bun itself was dry and tasteless. Price point was a little on the high side - S/M/L dishes were $4.50/$5.00/$6.50 (!!!), respectively. Today was my first time here, but one of my friends was a regular pre-covid and remarked that prices went up quite noticeably. Our total came out to around $25 pp (incl tax/tip), which - while not the worst for a lunch in New York - is definitely on the high end for dim sum. All in all, not a bad lunch experience, but given the number of quality dim sum restaurants in NYC (or even just in Flushing!) for better prices, I'd probably look elsewhere next time I have a dim sum craving. read more

Not fazed by the lukewarm reviews, we came on Labor Day and was surprised by the ability to get a table with no wait. Cart ladies are helpful with selections and getting items not available at carts. Sadly the black sesame sweet soup isn't available today, so we settled on the red bean pumpkin Mochi, which as expected, tasty and not too sweet. The tea type we selected was I stand not watered down and water refilled promptly. While inflation has surely brought dim sum prices up as well and I can't afford to dine out as much, this experience was a great treat to have. We were never rushed and takeout containers were provided for leftover. Zero waste lifestyle always. They had the dimsum carts that came around, and despite the language barrier, we were able to order everything we wanted. The staff were really accommodating and quick to help us at our table.
