The hospitality was first rate, as was the service. The cuisine is authentic French cuisine, and the house wines are excellent quality at very reasonable prices. Dinner for two (3-courses plus wine and coffee) is about £90, but you willl want to go back for more. There is also a Bistro, but we haven't tried it yet. I have been so impressed I have been back several times and use the restaurant for small parties. update: YVES & ELISABETH have now moved on, so this review is not current.

Sawadsee, Lutterworth…read more Quite simply the worst Thai restaurant I have ever visited, and possibly the worst restaurant of any cuisine. Truly memorable in its awfulness. Chicken wrapped in pandanus leaves was red raw; I made the mistake of eating one piece and it tasted very wrong indeed. Musaman curry had potatoes so overcooked and dry they almost powdered, while the sauce had the feel of something by Uncle Ben, rustled up by a three year old. Perhaps the most 'memorable' of the dishes was the pad thai - a vast plate of noodles in ketchup, perilously balanced above an unnecessary heating candle that slowly burned the middle of the dish. All this in an ambience of laboratory-level brightness (how I missed that first piece of raw chicken I don't know) and a head waiter who said we were lucky to be given a table. How wrong he was. It was a Friday night, the place was busy - how, I don't know; perhaps there aren't many options in Lutterworth - but please, do yourself a favour and pass this one by. I've been lucky enough to travel to Thailand and eat at a few good thai restaurants, and this place has the all the thai charm of a nineteen seventies motorway services. Avoid!

I came here for Sunday lunch today at this pub which strikes a good balance between its pub parts…read more(a bar that seemed to be popular with the locals) and its restaurant part (which was where we were and was equally busy). A set lunch was on offer at excellent value (2 courses for £18, £3 more for a third course). The atmosphere was lively with a friendly buzz of contented patrons in both the bar and the restaurant. However, it is the food which really shines. It all starts positively with good quality bread (sourced from a local bakery) which was generously sliced and served with butter at room temperature (cold butter being a pet hate). My starter was a wood pigeon salad. The wood pigeon (cooked rare) was delicious. The main was equally accomplished - roast supreme of chicken with well seasoned crispy skin served on a pearl barley mushroom risotto which provided welcome texture and a creamy sauce. Unfortunately, I had no time for desert. However, they certainly did look delicious and I will be returning soon (with more time) to get involved with the pudding part of the menu. So, its good value, serves excellent food. What is not to like? Not a lot for me - and I don't appear to be in a minority as it seemed to be popular. Hopefully it will continue to go from strength to strength.

What can I say about the King's Arms? I'm at home here. When we moved to the UK, honestly our most…read moredesired feature was walking distance to a pub. We got stumbling distance to one of the best pubs in the country. This place is well-regarded by everyone in the region. I've met people here who give up walking distance to their local to drive here and have a good time. That says something. My first night here I made friends, and each time I've been here since I find myself in good company either with neighbors we've met before, or people who know we're new to the area and want to welcome us. I can't begin to tell you how often a quick pint before dinner turns into a long session at King's Arms. I wouldn't have it any other way. These guys truly embrace the concept of being the center of village activity. No TVs, no WiFi, these things distract from the community. You come here to interact with your friends and neighbors, enjoy a good beer, and enjoy living in the company of others. They regularly have events to bring the village out. The most impressive of which was the dinner they hosted on the night of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. They served the exact 10-course menu served in first class that evening, and requested everyone bust out their tuxedos and dresses to mark the occasion in grand fashion. It was a remarkable evening. One disappointment, since I have to list one to feel as though I am being fair, is the wine list. We love the temperanillo, but really none of the others. But we're not here to drink wine, we're here to be social! It makes me a little sad that we don't have this type of drinking culture in the US. If you're not an alcoholic, you're not likely be on a first-name basis with the bartenders at a local watering hole. That's why I love walking in here; everyone knows everyone else, they're always happy to see you, they know what you drink, they pour a tasty pint, and are genuinely good people. I dig it.
