I visited ALL the major and minor whisky shops in Old Town and Royal Mile area, and this is where I purchased my whisky. Hands down the most friendly, helpful place I visited. Some shops did not even greet me upon entering, but I was in this one twice and both times they were well staffed with friendly and helpful folks. You have to understand that if you buy whisky in Edinburgh in this area, you are going to be paying high prices, but the prices here were slightly less than the other shops. Even had the best selection of bourbon of all the shops - not good, but better than the others. Highly recommend!

I'll have to be honest here, I got the more nitty gritty details of this place from a friend. I like whisky shops so when I set foot in this one I was very excited but didn't know too much about any of it, luckily, my friend does (this is when she comes into play) and she was over the moon with selection dating back over 150 years. On the shelves are American, Grain, Japanese, Blended whiskies, Grain, Irish Whiskeys.. she bought a well thought out bottle. Then we went home and I mixed it with Irn Bru.

I was looking for buying some original scotch for taking back to US. Visited many stores before landing up here and after visiting here did not have to look any further. Its location is right in the middle of Royal Mile Island and on a weekend specially the outside street was very busy with visitors and tours going on - inside it's a small store but with a large selection of whiskies and spirits. Whisky here is spelt without an 'e' unlike in US where it is normally whiskey. The staff was extremely friendly and as I was browsing around looking at the displays they asked if I needed any help. Were knowledgeable and made suggestions and gave me choices in different price ranges. I was looking at buying something local & unique and they gave comparisons based on the places and choices available in US. I found their prices to be fair. Since my knowledge was limited they explained to me the liquors, blends, barrels, aging and meaning of "Scotch". I bought one from them and they also packed it in bubble warp and a box which made it so easy for me to pack in my check in baggage. The whisky which I brought was a huge success and was liked a lot. One can also order online and they will ship it. If you have space you can save on the shipping cost by buying and bringing internationally since you do not have to pay VAT. Overall it all comes to the buying experience which was quite satisfactory. Would highly recommend it to anyone interested in getting Scotch.

I felt as though they cared about the whiskey, my experience, and my friends experience getting the gift.

Also, thanks to twitter, I found out that we could still 'taste' as The Bon Vivants Companion and Sipsmith had hastily arranged a tasting in place of the scheduled stand at Loch Meadows... The Sipsmith tasting was fab and the Summer Cup with its fresh hints of cucumber (which I normally loathe) was a revelation and has ruined Pimms for me due to its superiority. The Sipsmith Gin was also great - even neat and is a new favourite. Could I be biased about TBVC? Well, as someone who loves the Bon Vivant, I've also checked out TBVC which is also totally fab all of the time and never disappoints which is why all these reviews are all 5 stars. . Staff really know their stuff - I hate discovering a certain type of wine when I've been travelling to discover, I'll never see it again just because I've returned home and I speak to someone in a Wine Merchants who has no idea and won't offer to do a bit of hunting for me. Not the case at TBVC and even 'Its really rare' won't put them off. If you are looking for some of the rarer spirits and great wine, this is the place to come as a first stop instead of trudging round town and getting sore tootsie's. Yes, there is some high end stock but there's also some reasonably priced bottles. It is definitely the place to come for some special occasion wine or a boozy gift :-) I'm hoping to attend some of the regular tastings held in the basement this year now I'm twitter stalking and at the risk of letting the secret out, this is a great way to find out what is happening here. The guys at the Bon Vivant and Bon Vivant's Companion are great at posting events on twitter, hence attending the last minute Sipsmith tasting. TBVC - just awesome and I love it :-)

Interested in my recommendation to check out Lost Coast (Downtown Brown and Tangerine Wheat Beer.... YUM) to import? Bring these babies in as well as the summer beer from Anchor Steam and you have my heart in your hands. Oh and Zichichi wine too, please. When the designated driver more excited about finding beer than eating food, you know you are onto a winner. Hugs to this place, and lots of them!

My face is resembling the love-hearts-for-eyes emoji and I haven't even set foot inside. You see, Berwick is great for many, many things. It's a beautiful place and one I've visited on countless occasions. But, as far as beer goes, it's a real ale in real old pubs kind of place and there's no shame in that! So imagine my delight when we discover the warm and beardy Ray and his shop of beery wonders. It's time for a shake up in Berwick in the shape of this unashamedly hipster craft beer and vinyl haunt. (Bring Your Own Vinyl is the last Wednesday of every month from 5pm. - You're welcome!) H & B ticks all the boxes. You can sit in and have a beer. There's radlers on offer for the lightweights - myself included! - and kombucha if you're so inclined. (Left Field kombucha, mmm!) Oh, and there's gin too! You can buy any beer to take away. Dogs are very much welcome. There's a guitar if the mood calls for it and chat if you fancy it. If not, sit back, relax and enjoy your brew! Tell Ray what you like and he'll steer you in the right direction. - He's oozing with passion for beer, his business and local brews. We loved everything we tried and can't wait to come back. The difficulty is having just one, especially so because you're in damn good company. I visited with my boyfriend and his 97 year old grandad and, before we knew it, hours had passed and we'd got swept up in good beer, good chat and all-round good vibes. An awesome little spot in the borders if you're a craft beer lover!
