This place is growing on me. The food is actually stellar. Stopped by for another bbq pork sandwich…read moretoday because I have been craving how deliciously smoky it is. Dragged hubs with me today and we also grabbed a fried pork chop, macaroni and baked beans. I have legitimately had restaurant food that wasn't as good as this. The baked beans have pineapple, peppers and onions and are so sweet and a little spicy and tangy and delicious. The macaroni is just... better. It tastes better than box stuff, but not bland like homemade stuff can sometimes be (it's hard to get the cheese sauce right without breaking). The pork chop was just incredible. Seasoned well, perfectly crispy even after we brought it home to eat. And the bbq was still smoky and delicious. Seriously, don't sleep on this place.

Unfortunately, when we got inside the cook said they don't have pizza anymore. They may be bringing it back soon, but none is available now. So, we got potato wedges, chicken livers, and chicken gizzards. The livers and wedges were fresh, so they were yummy. The gizzards, on the other hand, were soggy and cold. We did not enjoy them at all, but we had to get back on the road, so we didn't take them back. I can honestly say that if I'm in the area & craving livers, I would go back for sure.

My sister has been wanting to try Fufu too, so we went on a mission to find good West African food. There are a few places in Richmond that offer cuisine from different African countries, but the options were limited on a Sunday so we made the trip to Petersburg. The location wasn't hard to find using GPS. Look out for a yellow red and green building. We initially intended to dine in, but decided to take our food to go instead. Although the kitchen area and register were well lit, the dining area was pretty dark and the restaurant was very quiet. Although there were two other people dining in, it felt sort of awkward. They said the food was really good though, so I took that as a good sign. We took recommendations from one of the employees. He suggested the Beef Egusi and the Peanut Soup with fish. We also added on some chicken patties and Jolof rice too. My favorite things were the patty, the Jolof rice, and the Egusi. That was my first time having Egusi and the flavors were phenomenal. I loved the blends of spices and The Fufu was freshly made too. I wasn't a big fan of the peanut butter soup, but sometimes I have a hard time with savory peanut dishes so I think it was just me. Overall, this place gets a big YES from me. The flavors are authentic, the staff is friendly and the food is worth a drive. I would've given 5 stars if the inside was more welcoming.

I went to Randolph Market today to purchase a box of tomatoes at $40 per box. I opened the box to…read moresee if there were any bruised or soft tomatoes. As I found them, I began swapping the bruised soft tomatoes with tomatoes from another box. As I was doing this, I suppose it was the produce man that came at me and in a rather loud voice and said, "Ma'am, what are you doing!?" He startled me walking up on me very rapidly with a loud volume. He did not even introduce himself. He spoke to me as though I was in a corner stuffing tomatoes in my pockets(stealing). I told him I was going to can the tomatoes and they needed to be firm with no spots or bruising. He began chiding me as though I was a child and told me "You cannot build your own box!" "I stood and watched you". Then why ask what I was doing if you watched me the whole time? Now he's playing games with me. He argued with me for a few minutes so I told him I would leave. I put the top back on the box of tomatoes and put the box back where I got it from. As I was leaving, he was walking beside me still arguing with me until I got to the door. At this point, this is harassment. He caused a scene and people were staring at us. The scene was unnecessary and could have been avoided. He told me there were no rotten tomatoes. So why if all the tomatoes are all so good, would it matter if I was swapping one for another? The man was very unprofessional and rather intimidating. If I am going to pay $40 for a box of tomatoes, I certainly want all of the tomatoes to be the best possible for canning them. It's not really what one says when handling a situation, it is how they say it and the tone that they use when saying it. I will never step foot in Randolph Market again if that is the way they deal with their customers. They need to train their employees on good customer service. Especially with men running up on women in such an unprofessional and intimidating manner. Let me give Randolph market a free lesson on good customer service. The employee approaches the woman swapping tomatoes. He says calmly and reasonable, "Excuse me ma'am. My name is ...... I work here in the ....... department. I have been watching you swap tomatoes between boxes. We call that building a box. Our store policy does not allow that. You can purchase a box of tomatoes as is. That would have been an acceptable way to handle the situation without causing a very unnecessary scene in a place of business.
