The set up is all very Phoenix Nights, snooker (20p a game), puggies, function hire and a truly immaculate bowling green, with the walls adorned with the names of previous club champions. It's a very serious business here indeed and giggling at some of the names or even making light of the number of bowling tournaments is not appreciated. Quite simply, you are in someone else's territory so you either like what they have created, which to all extents and purposes is a perfectly fine no-thrills pub, or get out. You must be a member (usually reserved for shipyard workers) or know a member, to gain entry which means you're unlikely to encounter anyone under the age of 50. In other words, I could give this place one star accompanied by the review from hell and it would matter not a jot. After all, the likelihood of any of the regulars having heard of Yelp, let alone checking it on a regular basis, is on a par with the chances of them asking for an umbrella in their pint of Tennent's.

As a vital part of the West End Festival, the Gibson Street Gala offers live music, street entertainment, various arts + crafts, activities for the kiddos, dancing and of course, yumtastic food. The Gibson Street Gala is essentially one big fantastic block party. On warm sunny days, you better whip out that sunscreen to ward off those unsightly sunburns. This year's Gala was a beacon of fun, which coincided with the Mela happening in Kelvingrove Park on Sunday. Throngs of crowds gathered along Gibson Street for food, music and fun from 12pm to 6pm. It's a full day of fun for the family, or even with some mates after an epic night out. This year, I got my fill in a couple hours of wandering around... then decided to sneak out to a pub to watch some World Cup action. Cheeky, I know. But the Gibson Street Gala is not one to miss, especially when it's beautiful out in fair Caledonia!

Stalls are set up selling food and gifts. Musicians play and artists to sell their work or run demonstions. There are activities for families, competitions and opportunities for charities to raise awareness. This year was the 12th year the event has been run. Unfortunately, this time the event fell on a drizzly Sunday. So, while there was a lot of exciting stuff going on, the crowd was a little thinner than it might have otherwise been. Even so there were countless stalls selling handmade gifts and knick knacks. Places selling burgers, pizza and beer, street artists spraying graffiti boards and three stages with local bands playing live music. That was a lot of fun. The music from one of the stages even meant I found a part of the Gibson Street area that I'd never seen before, a small grassy area between buildings - the GOW backcourt. I hung around a little, listening to a lot of great music and chatting to people. I may have bought some books at a stall that was offering three second hand paperbacks for only £1. Don't judge me. The gala represents a huge amount of effort from all the people running business nearby and it's not something they really need to do. It's a celebration of the community in this little patch of the West End and something I'd miss if they stopped running it. I'm already looking forward to next year's gala.

My friend was in a production before Christmas so I thought it was a good opportunity to go - The Edibles, a show for 3-7 year olds. No, I don't fall in that age range but it was a fun outing all the same (and only 45 minutes, perfect for my short attention span!). The theatre is bigger than I expected and generally pretty pleasant. Entry is up the stairs and in the foyer area there was an exhibition on of artwork which I'll have to return to check out another time. There is a cafe downstairs in the main foyer which has good selection of snacks and nibbles but I think it is mostly pre-made, bought-in food rather than being made fresh there. I picked up a brochure for upcoming productions and was impressed to see the wide range of stuff they have on - movies, ballet as well as other theatre productions. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on what's on in future months as this makes a great spot to visit if you're a local.

It's quite a small theatre in comparison to the others that I've been to in Glasgow but I don't mean that in a negative way as I think it's quite cosy and you don't need to strain to hear the actors.

There is a huge car park but it would be worth leaving the car as it is a reasonably priced round. There is a restaurant which is a set menu and is a bit school dinners eg steak pie, chicken in a basket etc but it was packed last Saturday so you should book a table rather than turn up. There is also a snack bar which will do you chips n gravy, burgers, tunnocks tea cakes and rolls etc. I prefer going in the summer as its nice to get a seat outside, also its a good place to come for a few pints before moving on into town.

Recently when I was getting the bus into town the bus driver stopped at the bus stop directly across from William Hill, jumped out of his booth and announced that he was "bursting" and had to go. Yeah, yeah, tell it to the judge, the only thing you were bursting for matey was to place your bet on the horses. It was quite funny though and everyone on the bus just sat there bemused till he came back five minutes later. I'm not really sure how many stars to award William Hill, I don't really like the concept of people losing everything they've got but I guess it serves the purpose it's supposed to, so based on that I'll award 3 stars.

They do this buy offering print services and educational courses to artists and the general public. The services on offer include facilities for etching and engraving on metals or wood, screen-printing, computers and printers of digital imaging and the invaluable advice of profession printmakers with an abundance of experience. You need to join the gallery as a member to use the facilities and pay an annual membership but it is worth it if you are serious about printed art. The Glasgow Print Studio also exhibits some really interesting work and is currently taking part in the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art. There is also a fantastic range of artwork of sale which is very varied and the friendly staff are always happy to help and can organise any framing you may need.
