    Dry flavorless turkey
    Monica P.

This is the Rouses I visit. I always get good service and good produce. This is my first and last time buying turkey dinner at Rouses. Turkey was dry and bad, and I cannot say the side dishes were any better. I am attaching a picture of the way the turkey was packed, it was inside a box and with no baking bag.

Whenever I find unique foods and I always bring my great finds to work for my coworkers to try! Now they started saying, "Where did you find this? Let me guess, Rouses" and they are so right! I must confess I can spend hours anywhere just looking, studying and admiring what a store has to offer. I especially do this with wine since I love looking at the make of the wine, the region, the wine label, the year, the grade and lastly the price! I can actually lose track of time doing this which makes employees at the liquor section start watching me! I love this place but one person can spoil it the experience which I have experienced this twice in the liquor department! The head person of the liquor department is hard to approach especially if I asked for a certain type of wine. Just very short responses and presents herself to busy to deal with customers. I asked her two occasions to research for a certain rose and left my phone number for to call me if she was able to get a certain rose but didn't call me back whether or not if she was able to get the certain wine. Since I regularly go to this location after my workout, I went back and spoke to her (head of the liquor department) again that I left my number to follow up at a previous visit and bluntly said we don't have it. Today, I asked her if they have a certain wine, she bluntly said "NO" I usually don't like mentioning negative experiences especially at a location that I love going to, but this experience has happened to me more than once! Today, I purchased an advertise special in the store that was not marked down at checkout. I'm glad I caught it and was reimbursed for the difference because I do not live close to this location. I understand everyone is stressed and busy during the holidays, but my suggestion if you do go the wine section, just make sure you know what you want to purchase because they do have a good selection of wine! I wish they advertise when vendors or distributors visit this site. The staff has been generally helpful and polite so I will still continue to go here. One person will not stop me from going to this location because I really like their many unique variety and selection of food and wine!

I love my Rouse's!!!! I've always gone to them in being a Nola native and was sooooo happy once they started popping up in the Baton Rouge area, which I recently moved to! They always have the freshest produce, meats and seafood. Plus you can count on them to carry local products such as sauces, seasonings and craft beers. Their bakery dept is pretty amazing too! During crawfish season, they boil the best around!

In addition to everything I'd expect from a full service grocery store, the beer selection here is probably the best in Baton Rouge.

You can literally pick your out fish and have them cook it right there. Like how fresher can it get?? I chose the Louisiana Red Snapper since it's one of my favorite fish to eat. I had to go crazy with it: * Fried Seafood Sampler: Fresh-cut US catfish, jumbo shrimp, and Louisiana oysters. That catfish?? It's easily the meatiest I've ever had; crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. * Louisiana Red Snapper this was my "foodie victim" but man, it was super tender, light crisp, just melts when you bite into it. Lowkey, it's one those hole-in-the-wall spots you don't expect to hit like this but it does, on a whole another level. I'll definitely be back. What I liked the most about going there to pick up my food was the cleanliness and the customer service. I loved loved loved the flavor of the fried red snapper. 10/10. And while I did think the grilled fish was good, it wasn't as seasoned as the fried one. I think the side worth getting is definitely the yellow rice. You should definitely check them out if youre looking for a place to buy fresh fish to cook at home also.

My recent visit was a Saturday afternoon---before we went, we called to make sure they had boiled crawfish available---the staff (person who answered the phone) told us yes and told us price per pound so no secrecy from them. When I arrived I was 12th in line but it was still only a 10 minute visit---at the counter they had 3 people---1 solely to take orders and fill orders, another who rang you up and the other helped the two described above. They had boiled crawfish and boiled shrimp--the boiled shrimp was sold with or without heads. Additionally they had the customary fixings such as potatoes and corn. All of the orders ahead of me ordered some or all as described---not sure what else they had on Sunday besides this but nothing else was needed. As for the boiled crawfish, I was very impressed with the size of the bugs and the flavor---seasoning was great for me but others may prefer it even hotter. I will return.

The Fresh Market is what Whole Foods SHOULD be!…read more I did a stop here back in early October. I'm glad I did as this place brought back some nostalgia to me as there used to be a Fresh Market in Loudoun County, VA where I used to live before closing to make way for a Trader Joe's. Walking around, I was pleased to see the ready-to-make gourmet meals that included delicious goods such as a bourbon peppercorn steak, peruvian inspired shrimp chaufa, and korean beef stir-fry. Lovely seeing different meals from different cuisines. And of course the deli area where you can get sandwiches, ready-made sides, and pizza. And the ready-made salads and wraps as well. And then there's a candy section and coffee area with fresh coffee beans; oh I should've grabbed something from there! I left with several items that included a 6 piece order of wings, side of dirty rice, veggie gyoza dumplings, and a curry chicken salad. All of which made for a great meal since I could pick numerous items that wouldn't break the bank. I wanted to try the calzones but I knew it would be too heavy for me. Definitely next time! Very glad The Fresh Market is still around and looks like it's thriving at this location. I hope maybe they'll expand to Houston sometime!
