Another day in Sao Paulo, another brunch. Gotta optimize my opportunities. And this time, I was off to Rothko in Vila Madalena. There's a solid hipster vibe here, low key and relaxed.
The brunch menu is pretty consolidated, but they have a more extensive menu written across the bar chalkboard wall. But small menu or not, you'll get some free popcorn served right up. And I do love popcorn.
For my entree, I ordered the Omelete com Home Fries e Salada. You get to choose your fillings, I went with peppers, onions and mushrooms. The Omelet is served atop a thick piece of brown toast, crisp around the edges, but softer and a bit soggier from the eggs in the middle. So, there were good and not so good parts to this meal. The food, overall, was pretty salty. I do like salt as a means to bring out the flavor of a dish, but, when something is too salty, it can easily taint it. The mushrooms, on the other hand, were really delicious, and maybe my favorite part was actually the potatoes. They were on the spicier side, which, I really like, but also surprised me since Brazilian cooking doesn't usually include a lot of spice. read more
