They're proactive with behavioral issues, quick on communication, and they don't seem to overreact in ways that worsen issues. They're able to do full-time or part-time schedules. They're welcoming of kids from LGBTQ families, as well as families of any faith. It's not as fancy as the other daycares that we toured, but it's a such a wonderful team of teachers, administrators, and families. They have been proactive and caring. They have excellent outdoor spaces, music, and art. The parking lot is also good for drop off and pick up. First Steps has been able to do PT, OT, speech and vision on-site at Good Shepherd. Our First Steps people have been welcomed into the classroom and they have excellent separate spaces for when distractions are an issue. They also coordinate our insurance for services in addition to what is provided through First Steps. We get great reports from our therapists about our kids' experiences in the classrooms.

This was the same for me, my uncle who attended in the 30's and my two sons who attended in the the late 90's and early 2000's. When I went here most of the classes were taught by Brothers and Priests. Now it has gone all lay teachers. I guess things were different when I went as if you got out of line literally or figuratively you felt the consequences. My sons did not. All three of us turned out OK. I am proud that I went here, proud both my sons went here and will remain a Chaminade man for my life.

I can tell you now that it's not the same. I dropped her off Monday morning at 8:45 to a playground with 100 kids. I didn't get to meet her camp counselor, and I was not able to enter the school due to Covid. I was okay with that, and nervous at the same time but again, I had attended there as a kid for several summers and my daughter has been in school since she was 2yo. She is friendly and delightful child so I thought I was making the right decision. By 9:30 am I was getting a call while at work. The director called me and told me that my daughter was having a rough morning, and trying to adjust. We picked her up early. The next day I called around 1pm and they said "they hadn't heard anything, so she must be fine." Thursday morning we dropped her off at 8:45, before my husband could make it to work, we were receiving a call saying that she was crying, and we need to pick her up right away and that this would HAVE to be her last day. The director told me that she didn't have the staff or the time to accommodate my child. They had 3 teachers to several 3 & 4 year olds. As a mother I was distraught. I couldn't believe that they had through my thrown my 4 yo out of summer camp. I wrote this to say that I am very disappointed in what this school has become. Also, I feel as if they didn't have the staff, why would they take on more than they could handle? So if your child needs special accommodations, or more attention than the average child. This is not the school because they clearly don't have the time. If I could have given zero stars I would have. I sent my daughter here with the intentions of her attending the school for kindergarten, but that won't happen. They made my child feel little, and they made me feel horrible as a parent.

My son joined the Wilson school since JK. We looked around a few private schools around the area…read more The Wilson is the best fit for our son and our family. The teacher and leaders are friendly and open-minded. My son loves to go to school, he used to be shy, but now he is confident. We are glad we chose the Wilson School; at first, I was worried about one cohort per grade, but in the end, it turned out perfect; they learned how to respect and accept their differences, and everyone gets along. The teachers provided positive, immediate feedback about their performance at school. Schools provide enough extra activities after-school, like math club, chess club, music lessons, drama classes, and some sports, etc. It is enough but does not overwhelm the parent. So I don't have to drive him around to take the extra class. They also have summer camps, spring, and winter. It is lovely, so I know there is always somewhere he can go. I am an anxious mum, but when my son is in Wilson school, I don't worry about him, and I can focus on my job. I know they will take good care of him. He is not pleased that I picked him up so early. He wants to stay in school longer.

Wilson serves Pre-K through 6th grade. My daughter goes to The Wilson School and I absolutely love it! She gets an excellent education, they cater to the children's needs, they are committed to social and emotional well-being of the children and not solely academics, the families are more of a community than just parents. It's the most warm and welcoming environment EVER! Additionally, being in the midst of a pandemic, they did not miss a beat. Our school seamlessly switched to online learning and the kids remained engaged and didn't fall behind educationally. They also respected if some children needed adjustments because of the impact that quick shift and social isolation was having on the kiddos and adjusted workloads because the children's mental health was what mattered most. I am immune compromised and TERRIFIED of COVID-19, but we were able to safely send our daughter in person to school because they have gone above and beyond CDC Guidelines and safety measures. Kids' classes are their cohorts and they don't mix cohorts (5th grade has about 20 students total). They have space to break up, they use outdoor spaces and tents, etc. Masking hasn't been an issue...It's been absolutely wonderful! Also, they have the option (which is another thing I attribute lack of COVID-19 spreading at the school) of ConnectED Flex which means that even if my child is an in person student, if I feel the need to keep her home for a few days, weeks, or months, I can do that and she's learning along with her classmates. She doesn't miss a beat. Some people have used this option if they think they may have been exposed or if they had family gatherings and didn't want to risk harm to the rest of The Wilson School family. When numbers got high before Thanksgiving, I brought my daughter home virtually and have kept her home as I watched how things shook out after the holidays. She went back in person when I felt comfortable and didn't lose a step!! Seamless! Oh, and they frequently hold Town Halls to get parents' input on how things are going and what we would like to see and send surveys for us to voice our thoughts, opinions, desires, etc. They celebrate ALL cultures and holidays. They teach the kids to be independent thinkers and speak up on their own behalf rather than parents doing that which I love (my daughter is in 5th grade, it's different if there's a preschooler of course!). They discuss real, relevant issues like what happened on the 6th at the Capitol or what happened with George Floyd. They know this is on kids' minds and they need not only a safe space to have this conversation, but also to know that other people see their HUMANITY. Depending on one's lived experience, certain issues hit differently and they deserve the space to have the conversations and see things from others' viewpoints while respecting and learning from differences. As a Wilson mom, I could not have dreamed of a better school for my daughter. Prior to coming here, I prayed a school like this existed, but thought I would have to settle because nothing like this could possibly exist. Every single day I feel like I'm living a dream. This school is so amazing from the leadership to the staff, to the teachers, to the parents, and straight to the students. My daughter is happy EVERY DAY. She NEVER wants to miss school and the education she is receiving is PHENOMENAL and beyond anything she's EVER experienced. I can't say enough good things about this school. I could go on and on! While attending I had many mixed feelings regarding the entire school but now that I am in college I feel that I was blessed and lucky to have been able to attend such a fine school. The people, however, were all the same. And when I say the same I mean the same upper-middle class kids who sport designer labels and conservative ideologies of their parents. Being the free-spirit I am, I found it extremely difficult to "fit in" one single group because of my liberal values. I felt that there was not enough diversity and many of the students tended to be extremely close minded because of that. All in all, the school is great (the parties were on par as well, Ha) and if you are able to take a tour of the buildings you will know exactly why I think so highly of the place.
