I expected a routine contact lens exam -- the same basic exercise I have had before, including through this same business, at roughly a quarter of the price. So when the bill came back at $268, I had the distinct feeling of being mugged in broad daylight by a phoropter. If this exam was going to cost $268, that number should have been made clear before the appointment began. Not whispered through paperwork. Not hidden in a fog of billing codes. Not revealed at the end like the final twist in a bad carnival scam. It should have been stated plainly, directly, and unmistakably: "Before we begin, this contact lens exam will cost $268." Had I heard that sentence, I would have stood up, thanked everyone for their time, and walked directly out the door in search of a business operating somewhere closer to reality. This charge is outrageous. It is excessive, poorly disclosed, and completely unacceptable. No reasonable person would expect a routine contact lens exam to cost $268 unless that price was made brutally clear in advance. I am asking you to review this charge and provide a fair adjustment or refund. And I want to be very clear about what happens if this is brushed off. I will not slink away quietly and absorb this nonsense like a beaten insurance animal. I will share an accurate account of this experience everywhere people look before choosing an eye care provider -- Google, Yelp, Facebook, LinkedIn, neighborhood groups, local forums, and any other digital town square where people still value being warned before they are financially body-slammed over an eye exam. Call it social media shaming if you want. I call it consumer hygiene. I will not lie. I will not exaggerate. I will not invent a single detail. I will simply tell people the truth: I was charged $268 for a contact lens exam, the price was not made clear enough before the appointment, my prior exam through the same business was roughly a quarter of that amount, and I would never have agreed to proceed had I known the cost. In short, there have been multiple errors over many months, and I am not seeing LSE own and correct these errors in a reasonable way. I see from other reviews that errors and money grabs are a common theme here. (1) We discussed a specific contact lens Rx in the office, and then the wrong contacts lenses were ordered. When I attempted to reorder, it took months and multiple calls to receive the correct lenses. (2) When I went to fill my glasses Rx, I realized it was the wrong Rx. I called them to correct it, and they said since 60 days had passed, I would need to come back in and pay another $75. I was never even handed a copy of the Rx at the appointment, otherwise I would have realized the error on the spot, and we could have fixed it. They attempted to fix it by putting a random "Add" on the glasses, but I don't use reading glasses. I have asked them to own and correct this error, but they have dug in their heels on charging me another $75. I can't get a new - and correct - Rx for that elsewhere. Thankfully I noticed the error, and then the second error with the Add, or I would have been out hundreds of dollars on glasses I couldn't use.

I was overdue for an eye doctor visit. I found Look + See by searching through my insurance and browsing the yelp reviews. This location is super convenient to me too. I scheduled my appointment online and filled out my paperwork in advance. The store is appointment only, so you ring the bell to enter. The showroom of glasses is a much bigger variety than I've seen other places. They have so many cool, unique, and artistic handmade frames. I loved browsing the glasses and sunglasses. These are one of a kind glasses you will not find anywhere else. The appointment was extremely thorough. I have never had virtual reality goggles on at an eye doctor! They definitely have the newest technology. I also had to pay for an image of my eyeball, which I was happy to do since I was interested. The doctor explained they can see things like high blood pressure based on the veins behind your eyeballs. My eyes were good to go! I got my updated prescription and paid for that eye photograph that wasn't covered by insurance. I decided to get my updated frames online so they'd be covered by my vision stipend toward frames since the ones in the store were all so much more. I would definitely get cool glasses here if I wore them all the time, but since they are mostly used when I am just by myself on the computer or driving, I decided to pass this time. Super easy and no added fees. Great customer service and friendly doctor. I plan on going back for my yearly check ups!

I was told by a previous doctor that vision therapy classes were the only way to help my condition and I did not have great success keeping frequent appointments that were expensive and didn't really work for me. I was blown away when Dr. Tran not only knew exactly what condition I had (convergence insufficiency), but told me about a new technology in glasses that could help me INSTANTLY with no classes. She got me fitted for Neurolens glasses and I will never go back to anything else. These glasses have prism technology that focuses both eyes on the same point so that they can work together - no more losing my place every time I look from one screen to the other. No more re-reading paragraphs in books because I lose my place every 2 minutes. And most importantly - I've had these glasses for over a year and NO MORE HEADACHES after working at my computer all day! I do research and data analysis for a living so being able to sit and read at my computer is a must. My only complaint is that now I get fewer steps in because I can sit and focus on my work and don't feel the urge to get up 100 times (yes vision issues can share a lot of the same symptoms as ADHD and for some reason we do zero vision testing in schools - just eye sight - I have 20/20 corrected eyesight in each eye, but my vision issue -eyes not working together- would have never been picked up in a routine eye exam). Sadly, like many things that work and actually make us feel better - insurance does not yet cover effective treatment for vision issues like convergence insufficiency to include Neurolens. However, these glasses were worth every penny. HSA money can also be used to cover these, which is incredibly helpful. I am eternally grateful to have met Dr. Tran. I've never met anyone more knowledgeable on vision issues and she is 100% the kindest doctor. She never appears to be in a rush and actually listens to what you say. She takes the time to explain everything, which a nerd like me appreciates. My most recent personal experience with Austin Eye was surgery for lens replacement. While some have derided the facility on Bee Caves Rd as factory-like, I would counter that with the fact that consistent good practices yield consistently good results. I felt well cared for throughout the process, and the results (my excellent recovery and visual acuity) speak for themselves. In the event there had been any problems, I was given Dr. Wong's direct cell number and email. The Austin Eye facility is beautiful, modern, and well-maintained. The same may be said of the older location along Jollyville Rd. I highly recommend Austin Eye for their expertise, state-of-the-art equipment set, and very positive and helpful office staff.
