That said, it is extremely close to the train station, the front desk staff were all always nice, regardless of what time of day / night it was, and the price was surprisingly low. Can you hear water running through pipes at odd hours? Yes. Can you hear drunk lads running through the hall at 3am? Sure, on weekends. But let's be honest, it's Brighton and many newer hotels with thinner walls have this issue. All in all, this would be my recommended place to stay for a budget traveler looking to be in the center of things in Brighton.

This kept the room very quiet on the 5th floor room with double glazed windows and good curtains. It's right next to the Brighton Train station, which can take you into London Victoria station. The beds were the most comfortable I slept on in the UK, they were like a futon. The room had a tea kettle, hair dryer, iron. There is a smallish closet area. The free wifi worked great, and had a TV. The bathroom was shower only with an all purpose soap. Everything was compact, but the room was plenty spacious. The only things missing were a fridge or in room safe. I could not have been more comfortable. The breakfast was very delicious and had the best croissants. I did not eat the evening meals. The location also is very close to a 24hr corner market and Marks and Spencer foodhall open until 11pm. The sea is a short distance about 10 minute walk.

Our friends from Australia had a four-poster bed in their room but no balcony. Lovely English breakfast with cereal to start if wanted. I enjoyed my stay here.

After my husband left for Spain on business & I had to change hotels from the original hotel I had…read morebooked because of a scheduled boiler replacement, I had two goals. I wanted a room that was (1) a good value (2) in a safe neighborhood, because I knew I'd be out wandering and shopping and eating alone until late every night. I also didn't want to spend a lot of money on an ocean view because, in my husband's absence, I knew I wouldn't spend much time in the room with my eyes open. This place fit the bill perfectly. It's located on a little square just off the shore in a line with several other small multi-level inn type establishments. My room was a downstairs room, which felt particularly safe to me despite having a door to the outside (albeit a locked courtyard) right outside my room. My room key happened to fit the outside door, so I was able to make sure it was locked each night before bed. Hallway lights are on timers, which could last a little longer than they do per activation, but which sufficiently allow you to illuminate the way to your room when you come in after dark nonetheless. After around 8 at night, the hotel is unmanned, and entry from the street is by key only - those little timer lights become very important when you're one of only a few guests (or the only guest!) and you're coming in to a pitch black space unaccompanied! I felt completely safe there. In fact, I walked the entire area of Brighton & came in well after dark every night, and at no time did I feel the least bit worried about my safety. The room itself was clean and cozy, and one of the very few places in Brighton where I didn't have to crank the radiator to warm the room at night - it was perfectly toasty by default and perfectly comfortable! Bathroom was clean, water pressure was good & water temp was consistent and responsive to adjustment. The manager on duty was super nice, helpful & very friendly, and met my very few requests promptly and with a smile. He always seemed interested in whether my stay was going as planned and whether they were providing all I needed there - just very accommodating. The most outstanding thing about the room was this: a small fridge, in which they provide bottled water, beer, wine, snacks, cokes, and even milk for making your tea or coffee using the electric kettle they provide. They also provide teabags, instant coffee, and brown and white sugars. It really makes life so easy when you don't have to consider procuring these basic items every time the need for one arises, and further that you're not at risk of paying three prices for them if you actually consume them (unlike in the US, where a fridge full of goodies is a trap for the unwary hungry or thirsty traveler!). Kudos to Churchill Brighton for getting this small detail right, I view it as definite reason this place gets 4 stars from me rather than 3 (it is a very basic hotel, after all) and a good reason to pick Churchill Brighton over the many others in its class!

Not only did we get a room, we got a room overlooking the ocean, complete with a set of binoculars for our use during our stay. The staff at the desk here are all exceptional, friendly, and helpful. Wifi is reliable & free. Be warned, however: the parking is a NIGHTMARE. Here's a couple of tricks: For the Thistle, enter the parking deck from the ocean side of the hotel, not the one off The Lanes. If the system reports that the lot is full, press the button for a ticket and wait. Don't move the car, just be patient. As soon as a car exits the lot, the system detects it and will issue your ticket and raise the gate. Once we figured this out (thanks to the bellman, a very nice older Irish man), we only waited about 10-15 minutes before we were able to proceed. If you aren't patient, you'll end up driving around and around on very narrow poorly marked streets, possibly for hours because you'll have given up first spot in line for a space. If you park late (after 4 pm) and leave early (before 11 am), the parking fee of £20 overnight is cut in half. If you stay one minute past 11, though, you'll be charged the full £20. Generally, if you bring a car, you'd just as well prepare to get hammered on parking costs... I had my husband take the car with him when he left for Spain as I prefer to travel by train and avoid the headache. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant is a buffet for £10 per person, and is not the best you'll have, but it's not half bad. Full English items all present and accounted for on the hot bar (except blood pudding, dammit!) including eggs (scrambled or fried), fried toast, hash browns & fried sliced potatoes, sausage, roasted tomatoes, beans, and mushrooms (see my pic!), along with a fruit station, a bread and croissant station, a good variety of juices & a pastry station. We had a table overlooking the sea, and enjoyed the atmosphere and the food well enough. Although there are a lot of service people wandering around the dining room, it's difficult to actually get waited on unless you aggressively seek someone out, so don't be shy asking for what you need.
