We stopped off here for lunch last week as it was a fairly convenient stopping off point when en route from London to Norfolk. It's a five minute detour from junction 8 of the M11, and so much nicer than the motorway service area. Bentfield Green is a pretty Essex village and the pub overlooks the village green which is surrounded by attractive cottages. We sat in the sunny garden at the rear of the pub and opted for the 'Fish of the Day' and the 'Prawn and Avocado Salad'... and wow! I have never seen such a huge portion of prawns on one plate! Was somewhat less than impressed by the glass of coke I was served, which was poured from an already open 2 litre bottle and was rather flat. However, the quality of our meals and the memory of those prawns will definitely take us back next time we are passing. I'll just make sure I drink something other than Coke! read more
