As we enter RosaNegra, we are temperature scanned and made to use hand sanitizer. We are required to wear masks as we walk to our table. Our outdoor table isn't really 6 feet away from others, in fact, we're quite packed in. ( it was Labor Day weekend) It's a beautiful place, with loud music and a very lively atmosphere. The waitstaff is all wearing masks, but still happily dancing along with the music as they attend to their tables. The restaurant is ideally situated with an excellent view of the lagoon. Many tables on actually on the sand, but we are a few levels up on the extensive outdoor decks. I had delicious salmon and really enjoyed the popover bread. My friend said her steak was excellent. We enjoyed the evening, which was topped off with a quick firework display. read more

Service by the wait staff is impeccable, but food is mediocre. For a "steak house" that displays the meat at your table (tacky), to sell you on which cut to buy, they should know how to cook it correctly. Ordered medium well, showed up medium raw. Sent back to the kitchen, came back dry on the outside, and yes, still raw on the inside. Manager was called (without our request, waiter was just the trying to fix the issue), and we were made to feel like WE did something wrong when we didn't accept the offer for a drink on the house or desert. Ultimately paid for the main course that we couldn't eat because it was undercooked, but as a concession we asked to drop the existing drink on the tab vs. forcing us to drink a "free" one, which after lots of back and forth was done. This place was AMAZING the first night we did dinner here. And TERRIBLE the second night... The first night, every dish was bursting with flavor. The drinks were original and strong. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was bustling. Which is why it was so shocking when we returned for a second night and found every bite to be oversaturated with uncomplimentary sauces, or lacking any flavor at all. We mentioned this to the service and they didn't really have any answers. Then after we paid and left, they actually chased us down after we had walked for 15min away from the restaurant because they made a mistake when they rang up our receipt and we owed like $20. So we had to walk all the way back to the restaurant, making us late for our evening plans. After all that, they did comp us 2 shots, which really would've just been the cost of what they dragged us back for, so we would've preferred skipping the drinks and the extra walk! read more

Everything about Rosanegra was fabulous, we went for dinner and the food and drinks were amazing and service was top notch! We got to all stand on our chairs during a song and we were given sparklers at the table, everyone was dressed beautiful everywhere you look is eye candy, every dish that was served was so amazing no expense spared! Upon being seated it was UNBELIEVABLE how loud the music was; couldn't even have conversation with the people at my table. Service was terrible also...Waiter took half the tables order and just left without getting the other orders. When we went to the bathroom there were people hassling us to purchase drugs and it was obvious the employees knew. The only good thing I can say is the food tasted good, but unfortunately it didn't make up for the rest of the experience. This is a very strange place. The ambiance seemed to be nice and Tulumy, dim lighting, straw roof, etc, but they blasted EDM music, to the point it was impossible to talk to the people next to you. Other tables getting bottle service gave it a clubby vibe. The food was also horribly overpriced and was straight up bad. The risotto and filet - risotto was mediocre at best, but the filet was over cooked, dry, and under seasoned. The burger was over cooked on the edges and undercooked in the middle, and the fries tasted like raw potato. The seafood rice tasted like old seafood. Drinks were tasty, but weak. Service was very slow. Offered cocaine and weed by a few random people going to and from the bathroom. Menu indicated tips were not necessary, but the servers were very pushy for a tip. read more

This was my first time to Rosa Negra. My wife had been in Mexico city and really enjoyed it and so decided to take my husband for our anniversary meal while we were in Tulum. Unfortunately our experience was pretty bad and I will like never go back. Our service was pathetic. Our server was too busy helping other guests. We ordered a bottle of sparkling water and that came out warm. Poured it in our glasses and the glass I was drinking out of was sticky and dirty. We couldn't find our server to tell him change the glass for at least 15 minutes. Finally when we found him he quickly got another glass and poured the remaining water in the glass, but it was very little water and they didn't offer a new bottle. Cocktails we ordered were really good but took long. When we were able to get hold of our server and asked about another drink that my wife had in the past he couldn't tell us, even after I told him what the ingredients of that drink were. When ordering food it felt very rushed constantly. That experience was also pretty pathetic. I had to tell other servers roaming around to get our server again and again. A few times i spotted the server and literally tapped him and still no attention from the server. Our two appetizers came out fine. We then ordered a salad and entrée (long after our appetizers were done because server was no where to be found). The entrée of choice was rack of lamb - server said not available. While they have a lot on their menu, there aren't too many chicken or meat options if you are not into steak. I really wasn't interested in steak (or beef in general) so he was having a hard time ordering. We went back and looked at other times while we asked our server to ring up the salad. We repeated the name of the salad multiple times, multiple times. But we still got the wrong salad. Once again to return the salad was an effort because server was no where to be found. Finally, someone else that seemed to be a manager came and took the salad back. By this point we had ordered another entrée so we asked for that to be canceled and got the check. We left the restaurant after having two appetizers and one cocktail each for $70 with tip, still very hungry on our anniversary celebration (which they knew about). :( Right as we were about to leave the manager offered us two shots of tequila. We don't drink tequila at all so we had to deny that. Not sure why they didn't do something else while we waited for the check, but it was at least a try so one start for the manager who at least tried. read more

Drinks, dinner and a ton of fun. The entire staff made a point to be attentive from the second we walked in. They made you feel like it was a special occasion, regardless of whether it was or wasn't! I ordered a mezcal drink with a sprig of torched rosemary that was the best drink I had during my stay in Tulum, might've imbibed in one or three that night. After dinner, this incredible restaurant became an incredible spectacle. The staff coordinated a dance/light show with the DJ that was totally unexpected, and it made our night. Rosa Negra is a wonderful restaurant in Tulum. The servers were very attentive, spoke English and provided great service. The meal is truly an experience. They start out by explaining the menu and the specialty seafood menu. The bread served seems like an appetizer. We had grilled artichokes and grilled calamari to start which were delicious. The artichokes were a bit tough, probably should've been boiled longer before grilling. The calamari was very spicy, which took us by surprise because it wasn't listed as spicy. We then had the tuna entree, I wasn't a huge fan but my boyfriend really liked it. Great restaurant that I would recommend going to for a nice/upscale dinner in Tulum. read more

Being very picky with food and spoiled as a wife of Italian chef and restaurateur I loved this place. Everything is immaculate in here starting from the ambience, service and the food itself. We have ordered shrimp tacos - which were the best we have tried in all Mexican coast. Bass fish (a seabass) which was kindly prepared by the chef according my taste preference - without butter or oil - simply grilled as I do appreciate a taste of each dish itself and am not a fan of sauces and seasonings. Went here with a group of 9 Sunday night. Service was efficient and accommodating (they even had a separate vegan menu for our friends!). We were right up near the front of the restaurant along the street. It's open air and it is HOT. Like, we kept taking trips to the bathroom to hang out in the A/C for a few minutes hot. However, the environment in this restaurant is so relaxing and beautiful it made up for it. Love the dim lighting and the decor. Feels both very elegant/upscale and beachy. The drinks were killer. I wasn't thrilled about either of the margarita options on the menu, but tried the jalapeno basil and it was perfection. I love spice, but not typically in my drinks. This margarita was perfectly fresh and fruity with just a hint of jalapeno on the back end. The lola and the yucca drinks were also INCREDIBLE and refreshing. Highly recommend any of those. Foodwise, we tried the following: -Bread. Each meal starts with bread service. I had high hopes for it (it looked incredible), but was a little let down. -Chips & dipping sauces. They bring three sauces to dip the totopos--one tomatillo, one peanut, and one called "el diablo." It really was not that hot and was probably my favorite of the three as the other two didn't have much flavor. -Guacamole. This guac was awesome. Very fresh, perfect amount of lime and salt for some acidity. Big fan. My only gripe is that the chips came as tostadas and they were only bringing 4 at a time despite our table having nine people. We had to keep asking for more and it seemed like they were weirdly stingy about bringing them to us. -Short rib empanada. I loved this! Served with pickled red onion and chimichurri. If I wasn't already feeling full I would've ordered a couple more. -Octopus. Everyone at the table loved this but I wasn't too crazy about it. I would have preferred it a touch more charred, and I thought the sauce it was served in gave it an odd tart flavor. -Bone marrow. The roasted bone marrow was really good and a large portion (4 bones)! Also served on the tostadas. -Ceviche. We had the tuna ceviche and this was probably my favorite of the items we tried. It was in an amazing ponzu sauce and had the perfect amount of crunch with the added ingredients. -Carnitas fish tacos. I had the fish tacos as my meal. They were a perfect size after all the appetizers we had, and each was finished off with a slice of avocado. It also came with a spicier sauce that I added to each. I kind of wish I had tried the duck carnitas tacos, though. -Tenderloin. The tenderloin was perfectly, well, tender. It was a great portion for dinner. -Mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were a large portion and nothing spectacular, but a great complement to the meal. -Roasted beets. These beets were MASSIVE, and awesome. We had plenty to share around the table. This was a great dining experience and such a fun way to spend a night with friends. The restaurant is also full of surprises--halfway through our meal, the music picked up and we had a feeling some performance was about to happen. Well, it turns out we were the performance, as guests were invited to stand up on their chairs to dance while servers brought sparklers around and then mezcal shots to top it off. We were celebrating a birthday and got a nice, custom dessert and a round of tequila shots for that as well. The DJ's music was all over the place but that made it all the more fun.
