Ah-ma-zing! If you're looking for a fun vibe , excellent service and great food , come here ! The best nights are Friday and Saturday when they have a live dj. They also do a light show at 10pm on those dates which really hyped up the crowd . I had the tomahawk steak, not featured in the pics here but worth every dollar , so delicious. Also had two ceviches and dessert . Everything was served with a great presentation and finger licking good. I would recommend this place for large groups or a fun night on town . We went here for dinner on April 5. Fun atmosphere, decent food going down. The issue is about an hour after finishing dinner my girlfriend started feeling sick to her stomach. We didn't think much of it, but four hours later, she woke up in the middle of the night violently ill. It didn't take much longer to set in for me. We were bed-ridden for an entire day of our 8-day trip. We've generally been careful and hadn't had this issue at other restaurants in Tulum. I wouldn't risk eating here again. read more

Wildly disappointed by the front of house service at RosaNegra. We walked up around 7pm, the restaurant had only a few tables and asked for a table for 2. We were told that the whole restaurant was completely booked, no tables were open unless you had a reservation. Which they said were also fully booked. Then they offered us a table at the neighbour restaurant, that serves Japanese. Ok fine but that's not what we wanted. I took a step to the side, got on Open Table and saw that there was NUMEROUS open reservations available for the next few hours. Weird. Booked a reservation at 7:15. When we showed one of the staff members at the front they said that Open Table was wrong and that there were absolutely no tables. They proceeded to say that we could be sat at the bar and wait for hours for a table to open up. So if there are absolutely no available tables, then how did I just reserve one through Open Table? And you're saying that even with the reservation we now had we would wait hours?? Odd and confusing. Anyways we ended up being seated and during our hour plus stay the restaurant never filled up. Overall the hosts were rude and over something so dumb. The one host standing at the front barely looked at the screen when we asked if we could make a reservation for later on in the evening. As for our server. He was absolutely fantastic and made up for the start of our experience here. The food was good, nothing mind blowing. We ordered the skirt steak tacos which ended up being the best dish we ordered. The sweet corn appetizer was different but still good. Bone in rib-eye was a bit bland and pretty fatty. Lastly the soufflé potatoes were delicious. Would I come back? Definitely not. There's way better spots in the downtown area that you can get super similar dishes for, for half the price and a quarter of the hassle. read more

I loved Tulum, but my experience at Rosa Negra was unbelievably terrible. Despite a reservation for 8:44 PM, we weren't seated until 10 PM after complaining twice. Why take reservations if they're not honored? The hostess was rude and argumentative, favoring larger groups. Once seated, service was awful; we waited 30 minutes for our waiter and had to complain again to get any attention. While the food was good, the experience and service were not worth it. Illos, just a minute away, has much better service, performances, and honors their reservations. Also, Rosa Negra is extremely overpriced; we spent more here than at any other restaurant. read more

Food was pretty great, but please pass on the sashimi. The raw salmon tostada was to die for so we thought we could try the sashimi but it was inedible. Whatever the "soy" sauce was needs to be thrown away. Another table also got the sashimi and did not eat it, just pass. My friend highly recommended this restaurant because he's eaten here a million times and at each city/location. Ambiance: Loved the vibe as soon as I walked in. There's a cool mural, the light fixtures really stood out. There's a Dj and drummers playing Congo's. The place gets LIT as the night progress. Food: We ordered the giant clams to start and for entrees the ribeye with baby veggies, and the Nigerian tiger prawn. All of the food was just okay. Nothing to really be wowed about. I felt my prawn was over cooked and dry but doused with aioli. I wanted some type of citrus or fresh relief. Service: Our servers Gener and Ivan were great. Gener and his general manager were really trying to work their upsells so it kind of took away from the experience. I do however really appreciate that they have bug repellent for their guests. Initially we wanted to have dinner here but we got there late and the kitchen was closed. The only thing we can order was drinks. I got the Keylime pie martini which was really good. The atmosphere was good. The reason why I'm giving it two star because my sister called in advance to ask how much they will charge her if she brings in a cake. She was told $20 and when she was ready to pay for it, the manager claimed it was $40. The manager threaten to call the Mexican police on us if we don't pay the $40. A different manager came in and we explained what happened. I started recording the rude Manager's behavior and out of nowhere, his attitude changed and he became nicer to us. He offered all of us free shots and everything was good. For such a beautiful restaurant this shouldn't have happened. Rosa Negra is like a teenager: Loud, annoying, having an identity crisis, and just wants to drink alcohol and smoke. Listen, the food was good, I don't have too many complaints regarding that. But man, the vibe in there is so confused with itself. The music is BLARING, I mean just full on blasting in your ear. If you're the talking type, or want to go on a date and talk, this is NOT the place. Keeping a conversation going here is a lost cause because nobody can hear what you're saying and it gets to a point where you just don't want to talk. That being said, the decor, I found was quite pleasant. Truly could be a great place if it figured out what it's supposed to be. That's why it's an absolute shame that my meal was accompanied by supersonic house music and a guy playing live bongos in addition to it (which is so unnecessary) This "restaurant" also wants to be a club, but doesn't respect either cultures so it just ends up being a awkward mix between the two. They do this weird thing where all the waiters and waitresses yell "PARTY PEOPLE!!!" during this music set, which is annoying because my grandpa and I, among the rest of my family who just wanted to dine peacefully, are not in fact "party people". The place has a dim look inside which makes it romantic. First we ordered drinks we got the Lola and De La Casa. Both were very good. For appetizers we ordered the roasted mushrooms. They we're fantastic. This was served with house bread. For the entrees, I got new York strip and she got Carne Llanera. Both cooked perfectly. Along with steaks we got Chipotle mashed potatoes they were addictive to say the least, also grilled veggies. For dessert we shared the carrot cake. Everything was good and the service was fantastic. We've never experienced this type of service it made the meal and experience even more enjoyable. Although it was expensive we definitely got our money's worth with the food and service. Prices are also on par with those cities. The ambiance is stunning - the restaurant immediately catches your eye from the street. There is loud music playing, beautiful decor, and showmanship from the waiters (around 10pm each evening, they turn off all the lights and come out with sparklers). We had... We made a reservation at this restaurant because it was one of the "top rated". The whole time we had to deal with the musty smell of the place which was not very pleasant. The main server from the beginning served with a little attitude. We all got our group to order we were with a friend whom is a pescatarian and speaks no Spanish so when she orders she showed the waitress what she wanted and mentioned fish. When her food comes we told her there was a mistake and she was very aggressive about it and said NO you told me that multiple times like we needed to accept it was our fault. For one my friend does not eat meat so why on earth would she order meat!? The way she came at us arguing was completely unnecessary. Told us to wait to get the rest of the table and see what she can do about it. I spoke with the "manager" and was apologetic but not really if that makes sense. On the other side of our table another friend got sauce spilt all over his white pants. We get it it was an accident but.... Meh. First amid the total chaos, I had to remind my waiter to grab our water twice and that took a whole Dragon Ball Z episode. Went to dinner to celebrate a fiend's 30th birthday. We were able to make reservations easily from NYC prior to arriving. We placed one credit card on hold to later split the bill when we paid after dinner (or when we got back to NYC). The restaurant was open but it was still too crowded for my standards during Covid 19. The waiters and workers wore masks but because we were technically outside and people were "eating" no one had masks on and it was just too close for us. We had a nice corner table though which made it more comfortable. They give you a stand to hold the purses for the table. The food was incredible. We had bone marrow, table bread, guacamole, burrata,tacos, corn and drinks. They didn't have the grasshopper tacos which i really was dying to try and they didn't have empanadas. That was a big bummer! After dinner around 10pm (there a 12am curfew in tulum), they gave everyone sparkles and everyone gets on the table and dance. The music was good. The DjS had good transitions. The bathrooms was beautiful and clean. My only real complaint is we wanted to get a bottle and sparkles for our friend birthday closest to 12am and they told us they couldn't. Rosa Negra had such a fun vibe. The atmosphere was trendy, boho, and clubby at the same time. The decor was tasteful, and the women's bathroom sink was the coolest I've ever seen - full of stones/rocks! Very natural looking. Servers and hosts were wearing masks, but they were weird masks that did not cover the nose downward. I was sketched out about that. For cocktails, I had one of the gin cocktails which I loved. As for the food, my party of four ordered ceviche and elote to start. The ceviche was delicious, but the corn was a little disappointing considering we were in Mexico, and I expect the elote to be top of the line, especially at a high end restaurant. I ordered the truffle mushroom risotto which was amazing and the portion was huge. I also shared the lamb with a friend, and that was amazing. The portion was also large. The peanut encrusted lamb chops were very tasty. We were very satisfied with the food and portion sizes, taking the price into account as well. What we were most disappointed about was the service. Our waitress rarely checked in on us. She was not attentive, and we expected good service at a restaurant of this stature and price point. When it was time to pay the bill and add tip, we wanted to add a certain amount. The waitress insisted we were supposed to choose from one of the tip amounts listed on the receipt. We did not want to do this because we felt it was not deserved. We ended up conceding to her wishes, but it was an incredibly awkward situation. Overall, I may consider returning because the food and cocktails were delicious, but the service was bad. I hope RosaNegra improves in this area. read more

My husband books a reservation at least a month in advance - we walk in and wait 10 min for hostess...she then proceeds to put us at a table directly in front of the bar.
