We had been to RosaNegra in Mexico City and decided to continue the tradition by going to the Tulum one. The Tulum one is wayyy larger than the Mexico City one and the vibe was very energetic. The servers were super sweet and ensured we were comfortable despite the loud crowd. They were enjoying themselves too which I totally loved. We ordered a bunch of cocktails and some fried tofu, grilled asparagus and some Japanese rice for apps. The food took a while and wasn't impressive, except for the Japanese rice but I wouldn't hold it against them as this restaurant is more of a party place. The music that day was insane and they were playing both old classic and new house music tracks. The price is on the steeper side so be careful about what you are ordering.

Undercooked burger

We had a pretty disappointing experience overall. We asked for beer, but none of the options on the menu were actually available. We also tried to order fish tacos, which weren't available either. I did order a drink that was both cute and delicious, so that was definitely a highlight (snaps for that). Unfortunately, my burger came out very undercooked, and I wasn't asked how I wanted it prepared. I ended up paying $40 for something I couldn't eat, which was frustrating. I really wish there had been better communication about what was available and a bit more attention to how food was prepared.

We had a fun dinner here one night with some friends and enjoyed the dark mysterious atmosphere, the great food, and excellent service. Our server Raul was very helpful in ordering gluten-free options for me. We enjoyed the artful presentation of the cocktails and the tacos were fabulous. It's a pricey tourist area so just be prepared for American prices but definitely better service and great food.

Go here if you want the Tulum party experience. The staff has some tracks and tricks to ensure they include every table in and there are groups celebrating bachelorettes and weddings so it gets really lit (especially with the lit fire sticks they pass). Again we were only here to try a dessert and the experience, so we got the chocolate sphere, which should come with a disclaimer that it serves 4-5 people. And it comes with a whole show, lights drama et al. Even their restrooms have a vibe with stone sinks and the works. They don't push tips.

One of the app's, do t recall the name.

Wow!!! I'd never been to Tulum and the Strip makes your head Spin! It is filled with Extraordinary, Elegant, Fine Cuisine & Luxury shopping. This place was nothing short of that! And Festive to boot! The had a show with music handed us sparklers & people danced about and stop tables. The food was Great service for the price could've been better that's the ONLY reason for 4 stars; and quite frankly it was more like 4 1/2 stars. The best thing about this place was my Espresso Martini it was presently second to none & we have stayed at 5 stars hotels all over the world. Very very impressive!

The vibe inside this restaurant is great, but the food was just okay. My friend ordered the fish tacos. These were some of the worst tacos I've tried - super dry and salty and the salsa lacked flavor. I had the salmon which was tasty, but nothing exceptional. I asked for the salmon cooked medium and it came out to the temperature I requested. I wish there was actually a little more salt on this dish. The burrata was good. The server was attentive and friendly! If you are dining in Tulum, most restaurants do not have windows to enclose the building. RoseNegra was the same, so it was fairly hot while we were eating. If I came back to Tulum, I wouldn't come back here.

I had a fantastic time at this restaurant. One of the main reasons I selected it for our bachelorette party dinner is because I saw that they had great vegan options. I knew nothing else. We walked in and immediately we were hit in the face by the mood that is RosaNegra. There were sparklers at every table, pretty much every person. That lifted the spirits somewhat. We were seated literally spank in front of the stage. I could probably feel them breathe if I was paying attention. The bride was swept away by a random man who started dancing salsa with her. Did he work there? We will never know. The menu has a bunch of shit, but not nearly as much vegan stuff as I was expecting. Pretty minimal, actually. Or maybe it was just that it was all mushrooms? I don't recall but I couldn't, as a mushroom-disliker, partake. I ended up ordering the guac, humita empanada, and esquite tostadas. The rest of the table ordered a smorgasbord of other things including the mashed potatoes (delicious) and elote (delicious). For my drink, I ordered something with tequila or mezcal, perhaps the bacan and it arrived with a fucking SKULL in the glass. It was SO COOL. The other people who got a drink received these neon colored beverages that tasted amazing. This place has a lot of highs and lows, the highs would make a 5, the lows a 3 so that's why I have settled on a 4. Highs: -the food was FANTASTIC, the esquite tostadas where incredible. I was too full for the guac -the drinks, as above, were really unique and campy -the whole vibe is something else. I felt like I was dining in a night club. EDM music, tons of sparklers, it was a really crazy experience. Walking home from this restaurant made me realize that many restaurants on that street are like this Lows: -I never received the empanada but was charged for it -the waiter was inappropriate. He literally yelled at the person who was paying for not giving enough of a tip. She tipped him! But he wasn't satisfied with the amount and literally asked her, and expected an answer, for a higher tip. It was really awkward and uncomfortable I did read online (after coming home thank god) that someone witnessed a shooting outside rosa negra. Not at all rosa negra's fault whatsoever but more a testament to the fact that Tulum seems like it is much more dangerous than is widely known and if you are planning a trip, maybe you should reconsider. If you are already here, well, this is certainly an option for dinner!

Ambiance: super cute restaurant but we got sat by the dj booth in a corner. awkward location. But i loved that they give everyone a sparkler during dinner with people dancing. Loved it & it looked cool! Service: service was decent - wasn't super fast but we felt attended Food: The beef empanada was good! I also loved their spicy salsa that was given complimentary. I got fish tacos and it was also good! The fish itself needed a bit more seasoning. This place is on the pricey side. For 1 cocktail, bottled water, fish tacos, fries, and tip came out to $90. Im from Vegas and was shocked at how pricey it was.

While I fully expected this place to be pricey and vibe focused, charging 400 pesos ($20) per water refill is absolutely atrocious without any heads up considering we didn't order or knowingly receive bottled water. The cocktails were weak and food ok (my fish of the day was well portioned but over cooked). Party vibes were good, and they did try to make each group feel celebrated, but the lack of transparency leading to a surprise bill was unsettling.

First time to ever eat a whole fish and wow was it good! For cocktails we got the Pilar, which had the lightest hint of hazelnut, and the Emerald whiskey cocktail. The octopus salad was so lovely, and the Argentinian chorizo was honestly one of the best chorizo I've had. Not very spicy, served with perfectly toasted focaccia and roasted vegetables. We also loved the pickled eggplant that came with it. They brought out complimentary toast and spread when we first arrived too which was so sweet. So happy we stopped here

1-Star Review for BAK Tulum…read more We were very disappointed with our experience at BAK Tulum, especially since it was meant to be a special anniversary dinner. I clearly mentioned to the staff that I am pregnant and asked for my steak to be well done. When our steaks arrived, mine was rare inside. I immediately brought it to their attention, and they took it back. My husband waited to eat with me, and after about 10 minutes, they returned my steak -- yes, it was cooked through, but they had simply thrown it back on the grill, leaving the entire crust black and burned. A proper well-done steak should be baked or finished carefully, not charred. I had to cut around the burnt parts and could only eat the inside, leaving my plate full of burnt steak pieces. We also ordered banana cream and churro waffles for dessert -- both were disappointing, we barely had two bites each. They brought us two complimentary champagnes, which was thoughtful -- but again, I had already told them I was pregnant. They didn't bother to offer me a non-alcoholic alternative, so I couldn't enjoy anything. When the bill arrived, the manager had said the desserts would be complimentary, but they were still charged on the bill, along with the champagne we never ordered. After pointing this out, the waiter said he made the changes but questioned who told me that, claiming I "heard wrong." Only after insisting did he remove the desserts from the check. We paid $700 USD for a $626.16 bill, expecting the change in pesos as agreed. Based on the daily exchange rate (18.46), the change should have been 1,363.50 pesos, but we were given 1,240 pesos, short 123.5 pesos. When questioned, the waiter said, "our restaurant's rate is 17," which still didn't add up and left us short again. Throughout the entire experience, no one apologized -- not for the burnt steak, not for the billing confusion, and not for the dishonest handling of the exchange rate. In person, I gave them the chance to make things right, but they chose not to. That's why I'm writing this review -- not to complain, but to warn others. The music and fireworks were great, but the food, service, and honesty were deeply disappointing. Unfortunately, this experience ruined our anniversary night.

So definitely the beet! We are sure tried the fish collar, which many people skip not realizing that this might be the most delicate and flavorful part of the fish. In fact I was tempted to just have two orders of this as my main dish. I had the Wildflower drink, which was light and delicate. We were able to come early at 6pm, only half an hour after they open, and by the time we left an hour later, to say they were full is an understatement. If you like to start the evening calm, as I do, I'd highly suggest coming early and then wandering the street. This also gives you a little time to talk to your wait staff. The server we had (I apologize, I have forgotten his name but I'll ask my husband and add it later) guided us through the menu and had excellent knowledge of each item. And, like everyone we've encountered here, was so gracious with his time and presence. I never feel rushed here as I do in some other tourist focused places. Gratuity is included, yet I'd say adding some is most deserved.

Menus are written on sandwich boards placed around the restaurant and the waiters come to your table and explain every menu item in detail. My waiter was very helpful with recommendations and answering any questions I had. I ordered the collar de pescado and the tostada de tartar for my apps, the fillete de robalo (sea bass) for a main, and the berenjena (roasted eggplant) for a side. The collar de pescado, the sea bass collar, was absolutely delicious. The fish was soft and tender, topped with a robust tomato based sauce. Super flavorful. 9/10. The tostada de tartar was also outstanding. The crisp tortilla paired perfectly with the soft fresh fish. The fish mixture was light, creamy, and a little spicy, topped with some greens for freshness and finished off with some lime juice for acidity and brightness. 10/10. The sea bass fillet was cooked perfectly, the fish was soft and juicy and had an incredible crispy skin that gave it a wonderful crunch. It was paired with a creamy sauce, spinach, and cauliflower. The different elements of the dish worked well together, with the vegetables cutting through the richness of the fish and the sauce adding flavor and a contrasting texture to the crispy fish skin. 9/10. The eggplant was good, however it was my least favorite dish. The eggplant was soft and flavorful on the inside, however the skin was a little bit tough. The mole it was paired with had a nice smoky flavor and I wish there had been more of it. 8/10. For dessert I got their only dessert, the honey cake. OH MY GOD THIS DESSERT WAS LIFE CHANGING. Probably one of if not the best dessert I've ever had. The cake was very dense, with the consistency of a blondie. The honey taste is subtle and there is also a slight smoky flavor that comes through from being cooked in their wood fire oven. The cake is topped with a chamomile whipped cream and salt. The whipped cream is so light and airy while still being incredibly creamy. The lightness of the whipped cream works perfectly with the richness of the cake. The salt on top really takes it up a notch. 11/10. My only complaints are that the wooden benches you sit on are very uncomfortable and it gets very smoky from the wood burning oven, and I was seated almost at the other end of the restaurant. It was also quite loud but the place is small and it was packed, nothing the restaurant can do about that. Prices are steep but well worth it in my opinion.

They start you off with a complimentary piece of toast with some vegetable chunks. Each of us got a quarter of a piece of dry white bread that I would pass on in the future but the vegetables paired with it had decent flavor. I got the passion fire as my drink and very much enjoyed it. It was sweet and refreshing with just the right amount of heat. 9/10. For appetizers my group split the duck tartlet with pink mole, the sweet potato agrodolce, and the hamachi tiradito. The duck was well cooked and tender but lacking in flavor. The pink mole wasn't adding much to the dish other than creaminess. The tart shell was awful. It was thick and dry and reminiscent of a premade store bought tart shell. 5/10. The sweet potato agrodolce was good, the sweet potato and squash ribbons had a nice firm texture and snap but all of the flavor came from the yogurt sauce that they were sitting on. 7/10. The hamachi tiradito was my favorite of the apps. The fish was fresh and light, the flavors were interesting with the combination of the sweet banana vinaigrette, the salty umami ponzu, and the sweet tangy mango, chili, cucumber salsa. This dish was the best of the night, 8/10. For mains we split the catch of the day, which was red snapper, and the broken beet. The fish was underwhelming, being a bit overcooked and dry. The sauce it was drenched in helped with the dryness but didn't lend much flavor. The yuca chips were a nice addition, adding a nice crunch to contrast the soft textures of the fish and sauce but again, not lending much in flavor. Chips could have been salted. 6/10. The beets were cooked well, they were soft and tender and paired nicely with the sour cream, turmeric oil, and salad. The turmeric oil added acidity, the salad added freshness and also acidity from the dressing it had, and the sour cream added a nice creaminess and tangy. These flavors offset the richness of the beets nicely. My second favorite dish, 8/10. For dessert we went with the "corn," which was a cake shaped like a corn cob with a chopped nut center and what I think was real corn kernels across the exterior, paired with a corn ice cream. Overall a solid dessert, the chopped nuts added a nice crunch however the cake as a whole was a bit dry. The ice cream added some needed moisture and paired nicely with the cake, though the texture was a bit icy, more like a corn sorbet than a corn ice cream. 6/10. Overall a good experience but with its high prices and small portions I wouldn't go back. The apps were on average between $20-$30 usd, with mains being between $25-$50 usd, and dessert $20 usd.
