I had no idea what to expect when I traveled with my granddaughter to stay at the Ronald McDonald house next to Cincinnati' Children's Hospital. She had appointments and procedures scheduled every day for a week, and being able to stay so near the hospital was great! I was blown away with RMH! They have thought of and provided everything a family could need while away from home whether for a short term or a long term stay. The house can serve over 170 families, is clean and inviting, and has the happiest staff around. We were met with smiles and encouragement at every turn. The rooms are well outfitted and in good repair. There are activities throughout the day for both parents and children. We used the arts and crafts room, the toy room, the indoor playground, the outdoor playground, the exercise room, the library, and the laundry area. My granddaughter loved the therapy dogs that came to visit. We were served lunch and dinner each day and breads and cereals for breakfast. There was a large family kitchen area that was fully stocked if you wanted to cook your own meal. All of this was provided at no cost to the family. After experiencing this place with my family, I can tell you that I will be an avid supporter of RMH and the services provided to families with children needing medical attention. This is about the RMHC of Greater Cincinnati, Ohio at 341 Erkenbrecher near the CINCINATTI Children's Hospital. I've never been there but sent a gift to a child there & called to get some info from them. The staff was very friendly& helpful and I've heard that it is a bright,clean,cheerful caring place. This child has been thru so much for years and is only 6 & finally a treatment may help so having RMHC to stay with her parents is such a blessing. What an amazing place to house families who have critically ill children who don't live right here in Cincinnati! Cincinnati Children's Hospital is well-known so we do have people from all over. As a matter of fact, the day I wrote this our hospital was named 3rd in the country based on 10 different specialties. They were ranked the same last year! The day I went to volunteer there was a family from Puerto Rico and Israel! We went with a friend of mine who was voted Volunteer of the Year last year so she gave us a tour of the facility and let us know how much is done to make the family's experience as positive as possible. There are groups of women who make quilts to be handed out. Each room is cleaned very thoroughly each day and lunch/dinner is made, too; breakfast fixings are there to make your own. We were there to prepare and serve dinner. The dinner was nutritious as well as delicious and the chef puts much thought into what he serves. On some of the walls are Windows of Love. A local high school artist asked the children what they would like to see through their window and she painted them through the years. Very sweet concept (that artist is now in college). There is a game room, exercise room, craft room, library, playground,laundry, computers, etc. I know that I will definitely be back to volunteer. There are so many ways to help. If you are grateful that nobody in your family has had to use these facilities or know somebody who has, please think about volunteering or donating. read more

Every other Sunday, you'll find me at Ronald McDonald House. Since college, I've always had steady work, but between bills and college loans, I've never had as much money as I would like to give back to the community. One thing I knew I could give back though, was time. There's no place I'd rather give back to than Ronald McDonald House. Before I started volunteering here, I had no idea the extent to what RMH. I knew that families stayed here while they had children in the hospital, but what I didn't realize is that RMH becomes a home not just for days, but sometimes weeks, months, or longer. In the two years since I started volunteering, I've seen lots of familiar family faces who continue to come to Cincinnati so that their child can get the best medical help. When these families are in their darkest hour, RMH is at their best. Even cooler? The house is currently greatly expanding in size to open their doors to many more families. The house is great to their volunteers as well. They have made it very easy to schedule volunteer shifts and give back what time I have in a sustainable manner. Every time I'm volunteering, it's hard not to wear a smile next to the awesome staff (and other volunteers here). I cannot wait to find more ways to give my time and energy to such an incredible organization and crew of people. read more

There's no way one can give the Ronald McDonald House anything less than 5 stars. This house is the 3rd largest of the 302 homes worldwide, and can host 78 families from all over the world at once. There is never an empty room, bed, or stomach at RMH. Speaking as a volunteer, this organization is truly one of the best "big" organizations to help out at. The experience and engagement you will find while volunteering at the house is incredibly special, and keeps me coming back. The RMH staff is seriously good. These folks care more about the families than anything else in their lives, and it shows. Final Fact: RMH staff and volunteers provide more smiles per hour (SPH) than anywhere else in Cincinnati. Can't get much cooler than a place like the Ronald McDonald house. This fantastic facility houses the families of critically and chronically ill children at Cincinnati Children's. For a suggested donation of $25 per day qualified families can stay in this hotel- like atmosphere (the donation is suggested- if families cannot afford to pay, they do not have to). Volunteer groups and staff volunteers prepare dinner daily at a minimum for guests. Breakfast and lunch are also sometimes provided, and snack packs are available in abundance. There are plenty of childrens' activities, and teachers are brought in for children needing/desiring to continue classes during treatment or during the treatment of their siblings. This is an outstanding place to support and volunteer. I would HIGHLY recommend a tour so that you may see just how much this awesome organization does. read more

We are incredibly thankful for the generous staff and people that make this place possible. We have to travel 5 hours every month for my son to have specialized care unavailable in our area. Without the RMH, we would not be able to afford monthly travel expenses. He would not be receiving the help he needs. The level of hospitality and generosity is unbelievable. You feel welcomed. You develop a relationship with the staff. They go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and that your children (even siblings) know how much people care about them. My son looks forward to the trip instead of it being a dreaded long car ride just to go to the doctor. The food is amazing. There are snacks, a community pantry, leftovers in the fridge (and awesome deserts) games, books, movies, crafts, the computers and printers in the library, a blanket and toy each time, an AWESOME thirty-one bag with a care package, volunteers who provide activities and entertainment...What did we ever do to deserve this blessing?!? I even felt a little guilty! I don't know if we can ever pay it forward this much! I know we can't thank anyone enough. I am handicapped. Traveling is hard for me, especially when I do it alone. Any parent with a special-needs child understands how mentally and physically exhausting it can be. As soon as we enter those doors, I have an incredible sense of relief. Sometimes taking care of myself is hard enough, much less a child. I never have to worry about that at the RMH. All of our needs are met. No stressing over what we're going to eat on a tight budget, where we have to pick up things, what I have to do to occupy my son's need for constant stimulation and activity (that drives me crazy). You can't "see" my or my son's disabilities from the outside. I'm usually embarrassed to explain and ask for help. At the RMH, I feel safe to ask without feeling judged or like someone thinks I'm taking advantage of assistance. I don't even have that level of trust with some of our family members. This place has a great mission, provide a home away from home to families with critically ill children. How can you not love that? I been volunteering here for the past 5 years and if you are looking for a place to volunteer at, this is it! The staff is fantastic and you get to meet wonderful people from all over the world. This house is in a very convenient location right next to the Children's Hospital, so families can walk over easily. The House strives to provide dinner everyday that volunteer groups provide. I recently volunteered here with a group. Absolute blast. Loved the energy the chef and other RMHC volunteers bring to volunteer groups. Delicious food. Beautiful facilities. I'm glad we are able to have such a wonderful organization in Cincinnati! read more
