The best rheumatologist I've had, and I used to go to one of the "nation's best" out of Rush in Chicago

I have a few autoimmune diseases, such as Fibromyalgia, Ulcerative colitis, possibly Lupus, and…read moredefinitely Interstitial Cystitis, coupled with skin allergies, respiratory allergies, and other autoimmune-related problems. At 56, I have been through my share of rheumatologists. Unfortunately, there is no cure or remedy that will rid me of any of these issues. Dr. Gregory Borstad does his best to help me manage my symptoms, including extreme sensitivity to touch/pressure in certain areas (lower, inner calves, soles of feet, outer, upper thighs), muscle pain, exhaustion and fatigue, arthritis, depression (related to not feeling well), & headaches, along with GI problems. Dr. Borstad really wants to help, but he doesn't have a magic wand, just like none of the others do. But I do like him a lot because he listens and cares. He will often be open to prescribing medications that I ask for, such as biologics, but he will not provide pain management. (I have to get my hydrocodone elsewhere. I am only on one 10 mg tablet per day, cut into thirds or quarters, but he will not prescribe it.) Nonetheless, doctor hopping has become a total drag for me, because my illnesses are what they are. So I will stick with Carolina Arthritis Associates. They bill my BCBS insurance at a MUCH, MUCH more reasonable rate than Wilmington Health's rheumatologist, Heather Favorito, so my co-pay is not such a huge financial burden as it was with her--even though I did like her a lot. Also, Dr. Borstad's assistant, Farah, is very efficient and gets back to me in a timely manner. The nurse assistant whose place Farah took was just as lovely and efficient. It just sucks that I cannot live my life normally. I wish there were more answers.

Wendy SIMMONS, PA apparently has a habit of releasing you from her "care" if you try to hold her…read moreaccountable? Pattern of sending certified letters terminating you from her care including the 3 other MD doctors you've never seen before? Reason for release was I was being NON-COMPLIANT? NEW to me, I've done everything prescribed, daily Tymlos injection, 6-month calcium level check-up. I left a message asking when I was due for my next bone density test after taking drug for 10 months, I was anxious to know if it was working/creating bone (Fractured T8/Osteoporosis). Assistant returned my call from 9/10 on 9/14. Assistant left a message stating "we'll talk about that at the end of the month (9/28) and that they would do a bone density test then to decide if I should remain on the drug or not. Not satisfactory, when I called back I corrected the assistant as SIMMONS told me I needed the test done on the same machine (by Delaney) not Carolina Arthritis? I asked her what is going on over there? Had SIMMONS taken a just a glance at my chart, she would know this? I said "no wonder she has a 2 star rating out of 5" (truthful statement - Healthgrades.com) Not only that, but it turns out the appointment wasn't even for a bone density test, but a calcium level check which the drug mandates every 6 months. The assistant only reported to me what SIMMONS reported to her. Today I went in for the follow-up and was escorted out the back door by manager, Steve. He said I was notified the appointment was canceled in the letter, not true. He said "I made derogatory comments to the staff? Not truthful by any means. He has NO clue of what transpired. I was absolutely frustrated, but that's not being non-compliant nor was I derogatory to anyone by asking the assistant why she called and couldn't answer the my questions, nor did she report what the next treatment or appointment was for. I spoke the truth. I told the assistant I'm not coming in for a bone density test as SIMMONS told me it couldn't be done there? It has to be on the same machine it was originally taken on which was Delany Radiology! I went in for my appointment today, 9/28 and was escorted out the back door. Steve called me from the waiting room, once the door closed to the lobby he said we're not treating you any longer and waived the certified letter I had signed for at me. I asked if we could go somewhere in private so I could speak for a minute. We went down the hall and stood by a door that lead to outside. I asked if we could listen to the transcripts and he said "not available". He didn't care, just wanted me gone. He said I was derogatory to staff. He had absolutely no idea what happened, someone just told him to take care of it! I Left in tears. Takes months to be seen by doctors in Wilmington, not 30 days? WENDY SIMMONS should not be allowed to dismiss patients because she can't keep track of her patients, doesn't care and has no follow-through. CAROLINA ARTHRITIS should and the 3 doctors who signed the letter should take time to learn both sides of the situation as she obviously makes a pattern of these letters with no just cause! HOW MANY other patients beside me are now in harm's way due to the mandated testing by the drug Tymlos which I was denied today (9/28)? SAD day when I was terminated for being my best advocate! SHAME on Carolina Arthritis for allowing, supporting her behavior. Too much DRAMA in this office, ask her assistant. When will it STOP for the patient's good???

While her personality isn't the warmest or engaging, I can deal with that as long as I am getting my needs addressed. When I switched to Tidal Wellness, I was told that the monthly fee would include having access to the doctor and administration via text or phone after hours. This was especially appealing since the main office phone rarely worked or was answered. This is definitely not as advertised. While you can text, it does not mean you will get a response. And I cannot count how many times the office phone was not functioning. Between the inability to get in touch with staff and the dirty exam table paper that still had the prior patient's imprints on it, I was a bit shocked. In addition, if you believe masks are important during a pandemic (as literally every other medical provider I have been to does), you may want to reconsider. I have never seen the doctor wear one, and her staff are hit or miss (they usually only put one on if you do). However, I continued to give the benefit of the doubt and attributed this to being overwhelmed with the start of a new business. Also, I really did not feel like starting over with someone new, so I continued. I am very active in my medical care and I believe it is important to be proactive. I ask questions and make sure I understand. The final straw came when I requested some simple labs be run. Dr Griffin obliged. However when I get the labs back, only a portion of them were run, but she had added on labs that were unnecessary. I realize I am not a doctor, but because I was the one requesting the labs and it wasn't due to actual symptoms occurring, there was Absolutely no medical basis for her to run these labs. A sidenote... My rheumatologist had run these exact special labs less than 30 days prior and they were completely fine. Now I am trying to battle with my insurance company to get them to pay for the same labs that were done in such a short period of time. There is the potential that I may be stuck with this bill. I have attempted numerous times to reach out to Dr Griffin to professionally and politely discuss this issue. She has avoided me. I stopped in to make an appointment and spoke with Nick. He scheduled me for a Telehealth appointment but then never put it in the system. When I called at the time of my appointment, he admitted his error, but then he responded with " that happens sometimes." Neither he nor Dr Griffin showed any real interest in trying to resolve this situation. I am not one to leave reviews; however, when a patient is paying money out of pocket for services, they should be aware of what they are receiving. And when we are talking about health...we deserve better as patients. I will happily pay the monthly fee for the remainder of this month and for next month. Based on my experiences going into the office, it is clear to me that tidal wellness needs it more than I do. The professionalism of this office is grossly suspect. I would caution anyone to do their research and be very careful when choosing whether or not to make this practice your point of contact for medical care. My recommendation for Dr. Griffin is that she spend some time training on office management. While she may have medical training, business management is clearly lacking. When you choose to run a business, you are choosing all of it.

I have suffered most of my life with intestinal/stomach issues, acne, and chronic stress to the point where my brain was no longer able to make simple every day decisions, let alone plan and set goals for the future (something I use to thrive at). After working with both of them for the past 6 months, I feel fantastic and know that true healing is happening on a cellular level. I am committed to following the protocols they suggest and doing my part to be in tune with my body. I am thankful for the time they have spent with me, truly listening to my needs and concerns and using their expertise to guide me to the best version of me. What I didn't anticipate is the level of professionalism I would receive in this clinic. Before I could even make an appointment, the owner spoke with me via telephone answering any questions I might have. A medical history questionnaire was sent to me and was reviewed by the owner, PA Sean Hensler. I actually kept a copy as it was the most extensive, thorough form I ever filled out from any medical professional. When I showed up to the clinic, Sean spent even more time with me, explaining the benefits of this therapy and again, answering any questions I might have had. The package I purchased consisted of 4 appointments that would boost my immune system, detoxify my liver and purify my blood with a perk of anti-aging benefits. A Vitamin C IV drip afterwards was a great enhancement of the benefits from the IV protocol. I don't know of anyone today who isn't concerned about keeping their immune systems strong and staying well in today's world. If you share this view, you will not be disappointed with the wide variety of treatments available to meet any health issues. They truly care about your needs so don't hesitate to try them.
