JV Gardening & Landscaping - So beautiful with the lighting at night!

I first heard about JV from the "Diamond Certified Directory", a free guide dropped annually in my…read morearea showcasing Bay Area businesses judged to be the best of the best based upon customer satisfaction, loyalty and expertise. They had a near perfect rating and were praised by pleased clients. After contacting Juan, he came over almost immediately to provide a quote. I wanted to update my high maintenance, overgrown front yard with low maintenance, drought tolerant plants and pavers. Juan listened to my ideas and provided his own useful knowledge. They were the right group for the job! Shortly afterwards, I also met Michael, the Project Manager. He and Juan manage several work teams that we got to see in action over the next several months. Workers were here religiously 5-6 days a week; usually starting around 9am and working usually until after 5pm in good weather and bad. The teams work incredibly hard and are extremely skilled in all facets of yard construction. Any concerns or glitches were met by almost immediate response by JV, whether or not the request came during the course of the work day. I was extremely impressed when Michael came by late one evening during pouring rain to clear water backing up onto the street and sidewalk due to equipment left at the curb. Near the completion of my front yard, I started to talk with Juan and Michael about completing the backyard and sides as well. They continued the pavers from the front with a backyard patio and paths on the sides. My old redwood deck was replaced with a composite deck and wood pergola, artificial grass, maintenance shed and complete lighting. Roxanne, their plant specialist, listened to my plant suggestions and designed a yard full of interesting plants to meet my requirements. Even though the job is now complete, JV wants to make sure customers remain satisfied. Many of my new plants were planted during the winter, and as I live in a frost zone, I was unsure of what would survive the winter. I'm pleased to say that only one type of flower planted in the front yard appears to be struggling, but Michael has already said they would be replaced if they didn't survive until spring. It's that type of customer follow through that makes JV Gardening amongst the best in their field. Now that my whole job is complete, I'm very happy that I used JV for the job. I truly think I made the best decision by hiring them!

Garden Mamas - Tamara Qirreh, Owner, tree hugger and plant lover. Bringing people outdoors to enjoy their own personal oasis, one plant at a time.

We hired Garden Mamas to maintain our mature hillside garden. While we thought it a bit strange…read morethat we had a different crew out most every time, we were assured by Tamara that she had communicated what needed to be done - she was managing the crew. This method seemed to work mostly, although we had to tell the crew each visit what to do, as mostly instructions had been partially communicated. One day, she sent two new people. We told them to trim two bushes on the stairwell and to pick up the leaves, nothing else. This was also communicated to Tamara a few days prior, but like most times, the crew seemed clueless as to what to do. When they were done and had left, we discovered that they had BUTCHERED our garden - most of five++ years of growth was cut away and in a most unappealing fashion. Her crew ripped out plants that a previous crew had installed only a month prior, had trimmed four bushes that were covering an unsightly wall into lollipop shapes, completely exposing the wall, trimmed new growth off of once per season budding plants without any care for shape or aesthetics, butchered slow growing manzanita plants that may never recover, etc etc etc. We were appalled and contacted her. Tamara responded to our concerns, but would not or could not take personal or financial responsibility for making us whole. She told us that the crew she sent was inexperienced and had never worked on a personal, mature garden (only on storage facilities and office complexes), and that she did not have the $$ to replace the plants destroyed or to pay for someone else to replace the plants (as we told her that we could not work with her anymore). We thought about going to the CSLB so that we could at least recover her bond, but did the time/money calculus and finally settled on her paying for two plants to be replaced, at another landscaper's wholesale cost (approx $500). So far, it has cost us over $10000 to get the garden back to where it was, and it will take a few years for it to look as good as it did prior to November 2025. We tried to support this independent, woman-owned business; but her model of a different crew every time coupled with an inability to run her business in a fiscally responsible manner makes it impossible for us to recommend her to ANYONE

The project was completed within the time she estimated. Invoicing/payment process was clear and easy. I provided photos of the types of plants I liked (from other people's yards) and they provided a list of recommendations with descriptions and pricing as well as placement suggestions. I appreciated Tamara checking in on me a a few times after they planted to see how things were going and reminding me to turn off the water during the rainy season. It's seven months later and I am still enjoying admiring and tending to my plants as they grow.

I moved into my current home in 2022 - it had an existing irrigation system but I quickly realized…read morethat it was not in a usable state and for the first summer of living in my home spent hours a week watering plants and grass using a nose. In 2023 I vowed to myself that I would have a functioning irrigation system by the end of the rainy season/start of summer. I reached out and started getting quotes - one of them was from Green Sunsets (Daniel). He was prompt when he came by for the quote and it was clear that he had extensive knowledge of planning and setting up irrigation systems. He ended up quoting me for a). a new system vs. b). going in and troubleshooting the existing system which I appreciated. His quote was reasonable and he was patient and thorough with me when I had a few followup questions - I ended up moving forward with Daniel to do the work. He was able to get me on his calendar pretty quickly and the whole job ended up taking about 3-4 days. Daniel had a team of workers to help him - his team was hard working and I appreciate that Daniel was also present for all of the days and directly checked the new system as it was installed to verify that everyting was set up correctly. In addition to the irrigation work, my yard was also very overgrown - Daniel and his team also did great work for me at the same time in removing a broken trellis, removing pesky vines, and pulling out a bunch of overgrown plants and bushes. Fast forward one year to spring 2024. After the rainy season ended (and irrigation system needed to be used) I noticed that there were a few breaks/leaks in the tubing/lines. I reached out to Daniel to ask about and he came by to my home. My initial thought was that either thirsty squirrels or our gardener had broken a few of the lines. Daniel assessed and came to the same conclusion, but since it was a fairly small task offered to help fix at no charge (even though the leaks were caused by our gardener). Daniel's work left me as a very happy customer and I am happy to recommend Green Sunsets.
