It's a great way to learn about a country and it's good. A nice way to meet new people. Often, the food tour guide will also recommend other restaurants (gems or where locals eat) one must try. Anyway, Parrilla Doña Tota is named after Maradona's mom. This resto is really an hommage to Maradona. There are pictures of him and his family everywhere. My husband abc I ate both Argentina (futbol) fans so we were stoked! You can tell this place is a local fav. It's a casual and the staff were so nice and welcoming. We had several dishes to include: steak (of course - when in Argentina, you have to eat steak), fries, the dulce de lèche flan was out of this world delicious). Other local dishes we had was the Morcilla (black pudding sausage), and tortilla de papas (potatoes with eggs dish). I definitely recommend this resto. It was reasonably priced as well. Oh and we enjoyed the wine, specifically the Malbec.

Here, they do all the right things and serve tons and tons of meats. They have it all, so good in fact, Diego Maradona himself once dined here when he was alive. The service was immaculate, everyone was very friendly and welcoming, we happened to walk in right during a slow day, and it was perfect. The ambiance is very cozy, lots of paintings of prominent Argentine figures such as Carlos Gardel and of course Diegito. I highly recommend coming to dine here, the food is well made and the wine selection is very nice as well (We opted for Coca W/ Fernet since we were on our way to watch Futbol)

The pletzlach bread they were served on was perfect - soft center and crisp outside. The BBQ was not very sweet which I prefer and the pork was very tender and easy to eat in sandwich. I had a hard time deciding which sandwich I liked best but I think I would go with the pastrami - very flavorful and the meat was tender. The pickles were a great compliment to the meat. The staff was very friendly and the ambience while nothing special was comfortable.

We arrived at the time we were supposed to, but the place wasn't ready to receive us. It took them 30 minutes just to serve us bread and water. The appetizers took one hour to be served. They were ok, but the quantity wasn't near enough for 20 people. Like, 4 pieces of falafel for a table of 8... just as an example. The main courses were served almost 2 hours (!) after we arrived. We arrived at 1:30 pm and the main courses started being served around 3:20 pm. And then, the food was horrible. The gefilte fish, for example, had no taste at all, and had been complete dried and fried. It just tasted like cardboard. To finish the horror show, the dessert, which also we had paid for upfront for all 20 people, was served only at 4:30pm, three hours after we arrived, and when more than half of the people had left. And if this wasn't enough, when some of the remaining people asked for coffee, we were asked to pay extra for it! It's not the price that bothered me, but the audacity they had to ask for more money after the absolutely horrible performance they had. In short, avoid this place as the plague! Even one single star is too much for them...

There's a small chain of stores here called CeliGourmet, that offers up gluten free (there's the "celi", for coeliac) breads and pastries. And, awhile back, they opened up a restaurant, offering dishes made with their gluten free products, called La Pastroneria, El Salvador 6026, Palermo. Given the name, it's not surprising that their focus is kinda sorta on pastrami, or pastrón, as it's called here. Now, with three of us at the table, there were a few options - in addition to a few sandwiches (two sizes of pastrami, chicken, smoked salmon, veggie), there are also pizzas on the menu. We decided to stick with sandwiches, and order up a large of their pastrami, since that's their claim to fame, and a regular smoked salmon, and just share them around the table. Let's dissect once again.... The bread on the sandwiches is touted as their gluten free pletzlach (a flattened bread roll topped with poppyseeds and onions). There are no other options. It's dense and crumbly, and completely flavorless. Seriously, there's supermarket grade gluten free bread that's better than this. The smoked salmon is fine. The pastrami, is not. I'm not sure I even want to guess how they made it - it's certainly not smoked nor spiced. Maybe just brined and then slow cooked until it's a stringy, dried out, and once again flavorless, slab. Kind of like an overcooked pot roast. The sandwiches and platters (which are the same offerings as the sandwiches, just without bread), all come with the exact same accompaniments - pickles, coleslaw, and baked potato. On the pastrami we got a few pickles, and some lettuce and tomato. On the salmon we got a ramekin of cream cheese, and some lettuce and tomato. No coleslaw in the house, they simply hadn't made any. I mean, there's really just one side that's on everything on the entire menu, and you haven't made any of it? Sure there was the baked potato, topped with no, not sour cream as claimed, but just whipped cream cheese - probably something commercial like Casa 'n Crema or Mendicrim. I don't recall the exact prices - I think the large pastrami was something like 270 pesos, the regular salmon, about 220. But, a pass all around.
