We fished almost daily and was able to fill up our freezer. Things have changed a lot here since I was young. Today we came out to go swimming. It was quite windy but it didn't stop people from coming out to swim. The beach looked packed with swimmers. We also saw a lot of campers filling up the campsites. The guard shack was removed and so it is free to swim right now. Everything from the restrooms to the beach looked clean and kept up. There is also still life jackets for those young swimmers or others that can't swim too well. Our little grandkids had fun dogging holes to sit in or castles in the sand. We spent about 3 hours here today but have already made plans to come again. On our visit to the Overlook we found out this Saturday they are still planning to have the July fireworks over the water. It's a beautiful sight for those who haven't went, but you want to come early enough to find a good seat or parking spot.

It was about $33 a day for the kayak pass, which gives you access to the whitewater course. You need to bring your own kayak for this pass, and I'm not sure if they do rentals. It was very fun with an easier and a more difficult course, and there's a conveyor belt that takes you up to the top. While this was fun, I don't think some of the staff were doing their jobs well. There was someone releasing tubers right in front of our boats coming down. They clearly weren't looking out for kayakers beforehand, and this was such a safety issue. Some of the staff at the counter also did not seem to know how to check people in. Before our visit, we called multiple times during their business hours, but they never answered.

I haven't been here in a while and my friends and I decided to go for a walk to get some exercise…read more We got up early and went to beat the heat. It was very nice walking the path in the morning. There were a couple other people up early as well. The path was fairly clean, although we did pass an area where someone threw at least 4 used diapers on the ground instead of walking 40 feet to the trash can. There is not any shade at this walking/ biking path, so bring some sunblock, wear sunglasses, and wear a hat. There are lots of birds and animals to see. We saw some sort of mongoose looking animal that was super cute to watch. He has brown fur and was long and skinny. He was jumping from rock to rock at the lighthouse area. There's a lot of restaurants near the parking area we were at.

I heavily researched the Riversport site for my daughter's birthday, as we wanted to take a group to the Overholser location. Side note, we heard there are several activities kids can't do at the main downtown location. First off, the website isn't clear on what activities are where, as Riversport claims three locations: Downtown, Hefner, and Overholser. There are also inconsistencies on how much passes run in what locations. When we called the one-and-only number (main downtown location) to ask about Overholser location details (again...claimed on their website), the employee told us they knew nothing about it. We called back a second time referencing their website, and they still claimed they didn't know an Overholser location existed. Internal operations red flag #1. No clear information on the website, no help via phone. We ended up driving some ten-year-olds to the Overholser Boathouse crossing our fingers we could do some activities mentioned on the website. After digging for an address, we drove a half an hour and pulled up to the Overholser boathouse. The area was super impressive, and the boathouse was open with a few people in and out. We were excited and optimistic about the afternoon. When I approached the desk, I asked for day passes, and they said they only offer activities on the weekends (it was a Tuesday). Again - that would have been helpful to learn through their website or the two phone calls. I gave my feedback to the poor staff members who acknowledged that the main boathouse won't communicate with them, will barely acknowledge their location (clear from our phone calls), and won't fix their AC in 100-degree heat. Internal operations red flag #2. I walked away with some disappointed kids and vowed I'd advocate for those unfortunate sweaty staff members who got the brunt of my frustration. Full circle, I'm not eager to try again with Riversport and because of the red flags--I wouldn't recommend planning anything with them unless you want some major headaches.

Pulled up and the sites were easy to find. For only $15 a night you get water and electric and there are 8 spots. By the end of the night every spot was taken. We loved our sight. Lake views from the back and plenty of space for our boys to run around. There are two ok-ish playgrounds. There is a swim beach but...I saw snacks in the reeds so go in at your own risk. Right off the campsite is the trailhead to a pretty hard mountain bike trail that goes all the way around the lake. If you don't mountain bike it is also open to hikers. The trail and park are well maintained and we were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed out time here.
