Came here last night and the restaurant was very good. Great food and great atmosphere. I ordered the clam chowder, crispy haddock taco, and truffle parmesan fries; and everything tasted great. The kicker was that extra items had accidentally been added to my check, and it was partially my fault for not looking at it before paying. I called the next day thinking it would be an ordeal to sort out, but was very surprised to find out that the error had already been caught and corrected. Now I get the hype!! When my family and I moved to the area almost 2 years ago Romaines was on our radar b/c of the great reviews. Yet we were Befuddled by the pictures posted on yelp. It looked dated and the pictures of the food were taken at the worst angle. We finally decided to try it out and undoubtedly we will become regulars. We have taken to eating here this summer and have truly enjoyed our meals. We live locally and have dined here previously, but recently they seemed to have upped the ante. The short ribs w/ polenta and a crisp vegetable slaw is delicious. I rarely eat beef but this dish has won me over. First time impression: FANTASTIC! Went with another couple who had been there multiple times before .Guys got Jambalaya, gals got the Shrimp Fettucini. Don't let the cream sauce deter you from this dish. It's not an authentic "cream" sauce, very light, grilled shrimp was fabulous! Roasted grilled pieces of to tomato sweet as can be. Portions size appropriate, prices right on. Mild spice to Jambalaya . Bread served was crusty, served with large head of roasted garlic , to die for. I am updating a review. I used to eat here all the time but after a couple disappointing visits I stopped coming. Well I had a gift card so I said lets go give it a try again. The décor has been updated...but in my humble opinion, it looked better before. What's with the blue velvet headboard?? I digress The menu seemed quite small. BUT: I had a very delicious meal with really good service . I may be wrong but I swear I recognized some of the help from a long time ago. This is one of our favorite places for dinner nearby. It's out second visit and we enjoyed both visits. Atmospheres (4/5): It is well renovated. Doesn't feel like an old restaurant but not too classy as well. Service (4/5): Always nice servers and hosts. They stay professional and the servers were always attentive. Food (4.5/5): We tried most of their food in two visits cause they are good. Really liked their truffle frities. Their tenderloin and steak tip and frities are my favorite menus. One down side is after two visits, we ran out of new items to try. I don't know how often they update their menus but unless they come up with something new, probably will not try. Their food are good but we want variety and some creativity when it cones to more fine dining. Price (4/5): Not bad at all. Very fair price for what you are getting. nice... the service was terrific - while I'm not sure why there wasn't a white tablecloth, it seemed like everything was at that level of quality. Our server knew the specials and was able to make recommendations that fit us well. They serve fresh bread, butter and a roasted head of garlic - this was a first for me and very tasty. My daughter had the shrimp alfredo I had the steak tips and frites (off of the "bar menu" on the side). We thought we were both hungry however neither of us could finish our dinner (which was sad because we have no refrigeration here on the road.) The food was well presented, tasted amazing and was a nice balance of steak, parmesan fries and a salad. The decor is nice, comfortable, large open, high ceiling kind of place. Nothing fancy there. First time here! I'm giving a 4 star because I think our waitress could have been friendlier during service. The hostess and bar area is great! The bartenders were friendly and they never stopped. The waitstaff never stopped either but I noticed a lot of grumpy faces. Beautiful place and I understand it was very busy. The food was amazing!!!! Drinks were good too! I love the selective menu because we honestly felt we're were dining high end! We will be back for sure and hopefully more waitresses will have some smiles on their faces. My favorite restaurant. This place is as good as it gets. Every time I go the service is exceptional and the food is some of the best food I've ever tasted. The fresh garlic cloves and bread they give you is delicious. I've had the Brie Onioln Tart for an appetizer...which is out of this world delicious. And the clam chowder which they put bacon and sweet potato in. The salads are great as well. My favorite meal there has got to be the salmon. I'm not even a big salmon fan but there's is so tasty. It's the sauces they put on their food that makes it so good I think. The veal bolognese is also to die for..my fiance gets that every time. read more

Had dinner here last night, it was a fantastic meal! My date and I generally like to do the small plate thing but last night we shared the BBQ shrimp, the deviled eggs and the pork chop( we ordered the Jambalaya and took nearly all of it home). Our server was fantastic, she brightened the experience. The pork was perhaps the best pork dish either of us had ever had. It had a hint of smoke and was just incredibly moist. The broccoli Rabe was a perfect accompaniment! The entire meal with 3 cocktails and two glasses of Meiolo Pinot Noir was reasonable! About half of what I would have paid in Boston! Yesterday was my fourth time here and I have to say, I love this restaurant. The waitstaff is friendly. The food is excellent. The decor is classy. I started with the mixed greens salad as a starter. My sister had the caprese salad which had fried green tomatoes. Both were excellent. For dinner, I got the veal bolognese. I've had veal bolognese at Italian restaurants before and this blows those out of the water. My sister got the steak tips and loved them. For dessert we got the chocolate cake and beignets. I only tried the beignets. They were slightly firm on the outside and squishy on the inside. Perfect. They came with lemons curds and chocolate sauce. Both sauces were tasty. There was one thing... the soap in the bathroom wasn't actually soap, it was hand sanitizer. It's not labeled that way and there wasn't any actual soap. It wasn't foaming when I washed my hands so I used more... I took a whiff and smelled the alcohol. Not a dealbreaker but slightly annoying. I'll be back for sure! read more

I used to frequent Romaine's years ago when I lived in the area. Once I moved, it was harder to get there. Last night I went back and I'm so glad I did! They have renovated a bit and changed a few details from what I remembered. They have a pretty great beer list including some more hard to find craft beers. Their cocktails are always perfection. The Smokey Pineapple was oh so yummy and at $11 I feel the quality supported the price. The bread that comes out first is delicious and comes with butter and roasted garlic to spread. I ordered the "Under the Brick Chicken", which was my favorite dish from the past, and it was still wonderful but seemed like a smaller portion than a few years back. Or maybe I was just more hungry last night! My husband ordered the duck which was cooked perfectly. The couple we went with texted us after we left and shared that they really enjoyed their food as well! Service was professional and kind- allowing us to catch up and not feel rushed! We chose Romine's to meet with some friends, primarily because of Yelp reviews and the fact that it was halfway between our homes. My thanks to the Yelper's cause this is a great find. Our server was very nice and helpful, and didn't rush us at all. The lighting is subdued and the noise level was low, so it is a great place to meet and have a discussion. They had a nice variety of beer and wine. The food was really very good. My wife loved the clam chowder, I personally like it thicker. The Jambalaya Pasta was very good, as was the Bolognese. The first visit was promising enough, although the demi they put on the steak frites is not appetizing and I didn't eat the majority of my meal, thought maybe it was a fluke. Saturday night we went and the service was poor but that was because it seemed like there were only 3 servers for the entire room. Regardless, the charcuterie board was just ok and not much for $17. Chicken under a brick was unseasoned and floating in butter/grease. My husband's burger was also unseasoned. Sticky toffee pudding special was super bland, not sweet, not anything really. I have been going to Romaine's since they opened. I consider myself a bit of a foodie and love to cook, so when I do eat out, I want it to be worthwhile. Romaine's NEVER disappoints! I continue to go back after all of these years because the food is delicious, the drinks are well made, and the staff is so friendly and accommodating that I have begun to consider many of them friends. That said, when I heard they were going to remodel I never could have imagined that the atmosphere could change so drastically, in a good way. There is a new, fresh vibe that is welcoming and, for lack of a better word, fun! To Jon B., the service is typically spot on, but every place has their off nights. I have been going for many years and find that the portions are more than sufficient, have not gone down in size, and are extremely reasonably priced for the quality of the food! Daniel C., I think you must have been getting a cold when you went, because your taste buds could not be more wrong. The veal bolognese at Romaine's is one of the best anywhere. So many people I know call it their favorite dish at the restaurant. It's definitely in my top 3, too. It has real chunks of meat in a delicious sauce with homemade pasta. The steaks are also always high quality and delicious! Give them another try! The bottom line is that I feel extremely lucky to have such a fabulous restaurant in my town! Romaine's has made the interior classy and the food is decent but nothing special. In the many times we have eaten or taken out food from here, the service has been mediocre. Tonight I picked up dinner and received a snooty performance from all three hostesses. The prices are also steep for this area. So, if you're going to charge 5 star restaurant prices, then hire professional hostesses and staff who are polite and friendly. Not high school students who are too cool or maybe lack the social skills to say hello or how are you? After all, the hostess is the first impression. Maybe if the service changes we will go back, but there's too many other good restaurants where we would rather spend our money. In the future I'll just go down the street or drive a little further to restaurants that have consistently great food With polite and friendly service. Try... Slow/rude service and expensive for what the food is. We got to the restaurant around 7 and we were starving. The hostess told us there was a 45 minute wait. So we decided to wait outside. About a half hour later, we came back in and asked how long and the hostess seemed so annoyed and said we still had about 30 minutes to go, which was longer than we thought. I asked if we could have some bread and water as we waited and she seemed disgusted that I even asked. So we waited because there was really no other option. We ended up waiting for a little over an hour, which was way too long. We had the truffle fries which were great! My husband had a burger which was mediocre at best. I had the butternut squash soup which was pretty good. The price though was way too high for those three things. Really, Romaine's prices are more than reasonable and we can't remember why we thought they were so expensive! I tried to pick a dish that I wouldn't cook at home for my meal, so I chose the "Murray's "Almost Boneless" chicken, Arugula, Truffle Potato Mash, Garlic-Lemon Confit, Balsamic Drizzle. This dish was PERFECT. The balsamic reduction was perfect with the fattiness of the chicken ( although I asked for extra ) & truffled mashed. The arugula added a nice bitter bite between the chicken & 'tatoes. Mr Bethany had the Jambalaya Pasta. This dish was so good that Mr B didn't talk to me for a good 5 minutes.... that's a record. Made reservations for Romaine's thu Open Table... party of four .... all of us coming together from different parts of the state.... got there 30 minutes early, place was humming and the hostess was able to sit us early... the night started out perfect. Our server came right over, explained specials - both kitchen and bar.... knew the wines well and explained the menu to us - the owner is from Louisiana so there are several "creole" dishes that are inspired by his homeland. Server was attentive, but not overly so... gave us a few minutes and then we ordered drinks and dinner. Drinks came quickly - they have Hendricks Gin - my favorite - water was refilled often and never needed to be requested. Appetizers.... we ordered two - the beat salad which was with haricot verts, red and yellow beets and fried goat cheese - it was delicious. Also had the watermelon carpaccio - and it was amazing - simple - but sweet and light - greens were fresh and it was the perfect starter on a very hot evening. Dinner.... four entries.. North Atlantic Haddock - the server told me it was the most popular dish and had a large chunks of lobster in the Newburg sauce that covered the broiled haddock - that was an understatement - it came with a whole claw and half a tail.... generous portion of haddock - and just the right amount of sauce... enough to have a taste on ever bite. The tarragon potato gratin was unusual, and I didn't expect it... it was good, but the dish was so heavy to begin with I think it might have been paired better with a rice or a risotto.... Under the Brick Chicken... my daughter loved this.... she always orders the chicken and she said it was one of the best she had... very lemony to taste... but not overly done.... served with a garlic mash and arugula.... the greens were light, not overly dressed and a perfect side. Sea Bass was a special that my mother ordered... I didn't taste it, it looked to be a generous portion and she liked it although I noticed that she had to remove a few bones which I understand are hard to detect, but would have been nice if they were removed. Tenderloin - this was ordered medium well - which I think is a travesty... but the diner said it was tender and not an ounce of fat or grisel on the meat, melted in his mouth like butter. It was served with a potato gnocchi which the diner did not like (he has simple taste), but everyone else ate it. The server was apologetic and brought him a side of garlic mash at no extra charge. The prices were appropriate for the meals, food was delicious and very tasty, drinks were excellent, service was superb... there would be absolutely no reason why i would tell you to not go .... i will definitely be back again... read more

Based on prior reviews and my initial assessment of the main interior of Romaine's, I expected nothing less than a throne fit for a king. On my way to answer nature's call I embarked through a mysterious and intriguing curtained foyer. Upon entering the abode of the commode I immediately thought I had accidentally walked into the kitchen freezer, but mistaken I was not. Patrons beware: the warmest of goose-down jackets may be necessary to prevent rear-end frostbite. At this point I was unsure if I could trek further into the water closet, but like the great Frederick Cook himself, I pressed on to meet the porcelain princess. While patrons packed in pods can ponder piccaso-esque paintings as they peck at piccata, visitors of the comfort room are confronted with disconcerting candids clearly captured by a kid with a camera. These unimpressive and uninteresting images encased in inexpensive imitation frames invoked an illness that necessitated a speedier transit for my already impending evacuation. After an uneventful deuce, Romaine's delivered redemption in the form of some of the highest quality paper hand towelettes I have ever had the privilege of using to dry my delicate digits. I lamented the stack of lightly used towelettes in the trash contemplating their early demise and their wasted strength and potential use for so many other things. My fiance and I went to try this place out as a possibility for our rehearsal dinner and ended up booking it that night. It was fantastic. The waitress was really sweet and helpful. We chose wine and while we waited for it, we took a look at the appetizers. Jon got the Barbecue creole shrimp. I don't usually do barbecue, but these were amazing. They had such great flavor, the shrimp were huge and they left just a hint of heat in the back of your throat. I tried the sweet potato bisque which was amazing. So creamy and the taste was just fantastic and full bodied. I could've eaten a huge bowl instead of the small cup. For entrees, Jon had the tenderloin and I had the shrimp fettuccine and we were both just blown away. The tenderloin was perfectly cooked, the fettuccine was creamy and delicious with the artichokes and sun dried tomatoes really livening up the whole dish. Then we split the creme brulee which was perfect as well. This restaurant's exterior does not do the food any justice. It's cute on the outside, but located in a strip mall. I'm SO glad we gave it a chance though because it was well worth it. And I know that our rehearsal dinner guests are going to love it as well. read more

We decided to try Romaine's because of the recommendations on Yelp while traveling in the Westborough area this week. My wife had the Under the Brick Chicken, and it was very flavorful, juicy and tender. The mashed potatoes were terrific too! I had the Atlantic Haddock topped with Lobster Newburgh...It too was terrific! Cooked perfectly, big chunks of delicious Lobster, and wonderful sauce. The Potatoes au-gratin were an excellent complement to the dish! We ordered mac & cheese for our grandson, and it would make a great meal in itself. It was a good-sized portion of Penne Pasta with delicious creamy cheese sauce, sprinkled with fresh parmesan cheese. We finished our meal with a crème brulee that was prepared perfectly, a piece of Red velvet cake that was moist and tasty, served with a delicious vanilla bean ice cream. Our grandson settled on a dish of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. All in all, we give Romaine's a hearty 5 stars for food quality, taste, value, and service! We'll be back! read more
