These same people owned the Hope Street Farmstand restaurant at 1850 Main St., which didn't last a year. This place deserves a zero for the attitude displayed today toward us. The owners, Kyle and Nikki, have decided they can tell people where and how to park when they visit their "barn" and enforce parking on a public street. They do not have the authority or the right to do so. Only law enforcement can enforce parking on a public street, even in front of their property. A call to the Sheriff's Dept. told us Kyle can only control his own property up to the property line, not the street where we thoughtfully and carefully parked. It's understandable that they want to keep the school children safe and the neighborhood free of bottleneck traffic; however, Kyle is rude and mean. He stands in his driveway and by "the barn" and dictates where people can park. If you disagree, he tells you to leave. He has the same sign included here posted outside "the barn" and says people must strictly abide by it. We have given these people a lot of business since they've been open. Today, as we do each week, we pulled up in front of their "barn" to buy an item. We had seen their "parking rules," and as a courtesy and to please them, I pulled completely off the street behind the white line, as his "parking rules" state. His driveway was full. He rushed out of his driveway and insisted that we move our vehicle into his driveway. I'm the only driver in our household. With my chronic pain, I couldn't get back into the vehicle, move it, get back out, enter "the barn," and walk clear back over to our vehicle and get back in. I also couldn't see how I could park in an already full driveway. I tried to explain this to him. He abruptly cut me off. "These are the rules, sorry!" he snarled. My spouse told him we only wanted to buy one item and we would leave quickly. "It doesn't matter! These are the rules. You must move or leave!" His tone was so rude and disrespectful. We chose to leave. "Fine, we will never be back, and we've given you a lot of business." He shrugged, stood close, and watched us climb back into our vehicle. He stood there until we pulled out. It was creepy and felt threatening. He didn't care that he lost that sale and all future sales from us, or our referrals to friends and family. Being a control freak matters more. He could have approached us in a much friendlier manner and explained why he wanted us to move our vehicle into his already full driveway. Instead, he jumped on us as soon as we exited our vehicle. Records located in the Oregon Judicial System show that Kyle has a felony conviction for menacing. Think twice before you do business with these people. It's not difficult to see why their restaurant at 1850 Main St. lasted less than a year. Many other locally owned, friendly bakeries and small pop-ups offer the same types of items. We will give them our business.
