Order: Boss 2 meats 2 sides--1/2 rack ribs, sliced brisket slaw and fries. Pros: Usually they are on point. However today they were off for me. Cons: the Boss 2 meats and 2 sides are $24 on the menu. However, they add on $4 to the Boss 2 meats if you get ribs. The menu should say that there will be an add on for ribs to the Boss 2 meats to avoid confusion. $30 for bbq is mad crazy especially since Ive been to bbq places where I could get the same amount for less. This time around the coleslaw tasted old and sour.

I thought I had good BBQ before. I suppose I had... but nothing compares to what I experienced at Roger That BBQ! I watch a lot I mean A LOT of BBQ content on YouTube and such, and I always thought that those massive trays of BBQ HAVE to be so delicious. Then, I had one of those trays in front of me here at Roger that BBQ. It was everything I imagined it being, taste wise and presentation, and then some. The owner had some awesome young men working behind the scenes and you could tell they were eager to learn and to serve. As you can see in my photo, the inside is simple but sets the tone for a great BBQ dinner. Get here early! We got here an hour before it opened, and not 20 minutes after it opened it started getting BUSY. If you're looking for GOOD, REAL Texas BBQ Roger That BBQ will not disappoint.

Headed over to this place on a weekend. It was a bit hard to find as it is set back from Brush College Road. Ordered two Wimpy burgers (one spicy) with a side of BBQ Beans, and a special Brisket sandwich with Mac and Cheese inside the sandwich, and an order of fries with Cajun seasoning. The space was a smallish room with long, picnic-style tables. You lined up to order at a counter with the busy kitchen behind. Ordering was quick and the food came out fairly quickly even though they were quite busy. The Wimpy burgers were delicious! Juicy, with a hint of smoke, the burgers had plenty of sauce and cheese. And at only $2 each, a bargain! The beans were also great, in a smoky/sweet sauce that contained pieces of tender meat along with the beans. The fries were good, and the Cajun seasoning a nice addition. The brisket was rich and meaty, and the sauce that came with it was delicious, similar to the beans with a sweet/smoky profile. The mac and cheese added some cheesiness, but I think it detracted from the sandwich as a whole. All in all, a hearty and very satisfying lunch! I will definitely be back, both for the Wimpy burgers and to sample more of the BBQ meat offerings.

Went to a friends for a lunch. They went down the street and picked up bbq. It was very good. The beans were exceptional with added meats. Sampled everything, the brisket, pulled pork and ribs. All in all one of the better bbq joints in Oregon. The ribs were my favorite and this is real bbq not a knock off. read more

Great Smoked BBQ! One of the best around and the portions are great. Thesides are tasty! Make sure you make it early in their day because they do sell out sometimes, but try something different on their menu, you will not be disappointed! It can be noisy inside, but worth it! read more

Wow. I went on a Sunday and pulled up at 11:40. I was already the fourth person there! As I was waiting for noon the line kept growing and growing! It was all the way down the side walk so I knew this place was going to be good. They messed up my order a bit but I didn't say anything. I asked for pulled pork but got brisket instead. But I was happy! The brisket was SO GOOD. Very tender and flavorful. Their ribs were literally fall off the bone. Like I tried to tear off a section of the ribs but ended up pulling the bone clean out! The ribs had a very nice Smokey flavor to them. The baked beans were delicious! So flavorful and had chunks of meat in it. The fries were just okay. The bbq sauce on the table tastes good but was kinda thin. Honestly I didn't even need it the meat had so much flavor! I will most certainly go back but bring more people to eat with me because it's so filling!! read more

Amazing BBQ! We came here with extended family, and were pleasantly surprised all around. The location was clean, the outdoor seating was well maintained and was a great place to spend an evening with family. They even had corn hole and the kids had a lot of fun. As for the food, the meat was fantastic, the creamed corn was the best I've ever had, and the prices were shockingly low (We were able to feed 10 people for $100 including drinks). read more

I've lived for several years in the Midwest and had a LOT of St. Louis and Kansas City BBQ. This place is the best I've had since moving out west. Their ribs particularly and cooked perfectly along with their pork. The side dishes are mostly great but a few I didn't enjoy as much (one was a cheesy corn type of dish). One downside is the place fills up quick and can sell out fast so get there early if possible. That being said isn't that usually the sign of some good food! read more

Amazing BBQ! Both the brisket and pulled pork was awesome. The side dishes, at least when we went, were not that great. The Cajun tots were good. The kicking corn was alright. Coleslaw and Mac and cheese lacked flavor. Next time we go, we will just be getting the meat. read more

Best BBQ ive had on the entire West Coast! -and I've lived in multiple locations throughout California and OR. only place I've found in state that has REAL DEAL TX style Brisket. Rib a really good too and a VERY popular item, so if you going for ribs or Brisket I recommend going as close to you can of opening - for optimal freshness and availability because the DO sell out! my only dislike is a small one, they don't drain-out the liquid from the foil wrap on the ribs till just before the cut and serve, so they come out pot roast tender so there is zero pull so I've often had to eat them with a fork because i couldn't pick them up. I cant really review the sides, and the sandwiches because of a food allergy, so anything from the fryer is not safe for me and dont care for slaw -so cant eat any of the sandwiches unless I take my own bun, so I just buy the meat by the pound. wish the had mashers as a regular item, so only seen him list availability round the holidays. if you a serious BBQ lover especially smoked meats, cant recommend them enough and well-worth the drive from out of town. read more

Got the ribs w/two sides and the brisket w/two sides. Let us start off with the ribs. They looked good. The meat fell off the bone but they smelled and tasted fishy. I dont know if the ribs went bad, but they were awful. Now I get the pleasure of sitting here hoping I dont get food poisoning. The brisket, oh boy. It had at least an inch of fat cap which in my opinion is lazy cooking. There is an art to trimming meat and these folks have no idea how do to it. Now the sides. Shall we start from best to worst? The baked beans werent to bad. They had a fair amount of meat and the flavor was good. The coleslaw was watery and sweet and then I realized it has pineapple in it. Okay, I guess. Now the corn and mac and cheese. They were equally horrible. The corn has no flavor and burns like the fiery depths of hell. The mac, I actually have no words. The blue box of mac you buy at the store tastes better. I have eaten here a few times and each time it is so so, but this time, not nice. read more

One of the best barbecue I've ever eaten! Outstanding! I highly recommend this for take out, or eating in their outdoor picnic area, for the entire family. Fall off the bone ribs. Brisket that's just right! Not smothered in sauce but the sauce is available for anyone who is a sauce person. They let the meat speak for its self. Large Kid's menu. Unusual and excellent sides! This was a great place for us to stop while we were on a college visit to Willamette University! We stopped in here on our way to the airport to fill up on food and fill up we did. Large portions and smoked perfect for me. The spicy Mac was okay but the cheesy hash browns were the bomb! read more

They have patio seating we almost did not go due to "no outdoor seating" marked on yelp but glad we did. Our pups were able to chill with us as we destroyed a bunch of brisket and pulled pork! The wait was long but definitely worth it. Mac n cheese was tasty and so was the Cole slaw read more

This is your best choice for barbecue in Salem. The only reasons I didn't give 5 stars were because their hours are sort of hard to hit a lot of times and the brisket was a tad dry. The rest of the food was perfect! There aren't many places to get brisket around here, but these guys know their stuff. If I had to choose a place for some southern food, it would be here or Cindy Lou's every time. read more

Unbelievable!!! Can't believe that this amazing BBQ place has been within a mile from my home for the last 6 plus months and I didn't know about it! I don't claim to really know BBQ all that well but I have eaten at a couple pretty good places and I've probably logged a good 20 plus hours of watching BBQ related reality tv. So with that being said I feel pretty confident rating this place 5 star. Very clean restaurant, kind staff and amazing brisket and ribs. Just found out about this place 2 days ago and have already eaten there twice. If you plan on trying this place out I recommend showing up when they open cause they sell out fast!! read more

We are always reluctant to try BBQ places because we can cook BBQ at home very well. This place was more than expected! It's small but very clean! The food was SOOO good! We got the pit master combo with Ribs, brisket, hot links and pulled pork. Sides Mac and cheese and kicked up corn. So much food for my husband and I we had dinner for the next day! Just wish I had taken a picture. Favorite things were pulled pork and the kicked up corn! Only wish they would have let us know the Mac and cheese is spicy. It was still VERY good food! Uhhhhhhhhhhh incredible! I'm writing this as I sit here at the restaurant. We got the big boss plate which was more than enough for 2 people. We needed a box. The baked beans and Mac n cheese are terrific. The Mac N cheese tastes like they doused the noodles in nacho queso, omfg, put it all over my body! Onion rings hit the spot and the brisket has a thick layer of smoky seasoning. Definitely come here! read more

We love this place. The brisket is incredibly tender and the smoky pork ribs are fall-off-the-bone melty good. Th portions are generous and the the flavor of their meats: rich and delicious. The service is warm and friendly. We didn't love the mac n cheese- it's spicy but not seasoned enough (a little salt and pepper would help), the cole slaw is fine and the banana pudding is ok but needs bananas! Just tiny quibbles here, we really love what they are doing. Love their BBQ sauce and fries. Beats anything we've had in Portland. Great job!!!! read more

Congrats to RogerThatBBQ on their Best of the Mid-Valley win, what now 3 years in a row? I have never had a bad meal at RtB. The ribs are killer, fall-off-the-bone tender and so tasty. Perfectly smoked. The brisket is fork tender and the chopped chicken sandwich is divine. We usually get the PitMaster combo. The sides are a perfect compliment to the meat. Kicked up corn is just spicy enough to wet your taste buds and the potato salad is addictive. Thank you RogerThatBBQ for making BBQ right!! read more

Both Mac's featured perfectly-cooked shell noodles & decadent cheese sauce! The "reg" Mac had hearty chunks of bacon & fresh basil ribbons. The Cajun Mac was SUPER flavorful & had andouille sausage bites & VERY moist chicken tenders. The beignets were pillowy-soft & served with an amazing cinnamon sugar cream cheese drizzle.

The sandwiches are a comparable portion to the menu price of the nearby chain sub shops, but The Hoagie Grail uses much better ingredients, and in the right proportions. There's not a mountain of meat, but neither is there any shortage. Each filling comes through, as crisp veggies complement aromatic olive oil and savory deli meats. I wouldn't mind a larger selection of fillings, but if the limited menu is what keeps the quality up, that's a trade I'll happily make. As mentioned, the sandwiches are large without being ridiculous. You can get two smaller meals out of one easily, or one feast. The interior of the shop is clean and fun, with a couple arcade machines, retro posters, and classic cartoons playing. Despite the nostalgic, child-like atmosphere, it's also a pleasantly calm/quiet venue. There's fun without sensory overload. I very much hope to see The Hoagie Grail becoming a community staple over the next few years, as they are set up well for it with a welcoming and playful atmosphere, great value, friendly people, and good quality.

Flavors were amazing. The Wenatchee toast was delicious along with the cheddar date gf biscuit. The dirty egg nog chai is fabulous and seasonal so get it before it's gone. You can also do grab and go and find seating in the main room. The food and heart of this place are 5 stars. Giving 4 stars today because of the ordering headache. Because of the time window we had before the show, I called early in the day to see about a reservation. I was told that the restaurant only makes reservations for parties of four or more--okay, that's reasonable. We show up a little before 6 pm in hopes of securing a table. After waiting a few moments to be greeted at the host stand--two employees were having a conversation while we approached, the first question I was asked was "do you have a reservation?". I explained that I'd tried but was told they didn't do that for a party of just two--we were told "oh, that's not what we do". There were three tables near the window, and we were brought to the small, two-top in between two larger tables that could accommodate 3 or 4. I thought about asking for one of the others as it would afford us a bit more room, but decided to just hold my tongue. Again I thought, okay, it's reasonable--they may get other patrons to accommodate. (As it turned out, neither of the other tables got occupied in the whole time we were there.) Our server greeted us about 5 minutes later and brought water to the table and asked if we'd like to see a drink menu. He came back with one about 5 minutes later. I ordered black tea, and my wife ordered a mocktail. The tea came out with honey; before I could ask for milk and Splenda, our server took off. (My wife flagged him over a couple minutes later when he reappeared.) We ordered our meals--a bowl of chicken gnocchi soup and the flatbread platter for my wife. I ordered the butternut squash and goat cheese salad and asked to have chicken added. About 10 minutes later, our server brought my wife's soup--her intention was not to have it an appetizer, but --oh well. The rest of our food arrived via another staff member probably 15 minutes later--not an outlandish amount of time. However after spending a minute looking at my salad (which was very pretty) I realized the chicken breast I'd ordered wasn't included in the salad. Again, our waiter was not to be found so I went over to the host station and asked after it. I was told "sometime the kitchen makes it later"--which seemed a little odd but again, okay--maybe they were searing it and the timing didn't work. About 3 minutes later I was brought a small plate with around 4 oz of sliced chicken on it. It was lovely looking and clearly moist, although the meat was cold--clearly not meant to be hot. We were never offered more water at our table, nor was I offered a refill on the hot water for my $3.50 tea. We realized around 7 that we needed to leave and could not see our server so I again went to the host station and asked if I could just pay the bill. I was told that our server was on the phone with the restaurant manager and they could have him come over in a bit. I repeated my request to simply pay the bill (and not have to wait for our server to be free). Another server came over and accommodated me at a register begins the host station, which was appreciated. Despite relatively mediocre service I tipped a bit over 20 percent--I understand the importance of tips on restaurant staff--il even if I'd prefer that they didn't rely on them for a fair compensation. The quality of our food was decent--but it's unlikely we will be back in the near future together. I know it's a popular meeting place and I may return to socialize with work colleagues--but we will find other places for our next dates.

Really love the food but EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with service to even inquire about catering! I've emailed twice, phoned (can't reach a real person) AND I've gone in to drop off MY information! I was told someone would call me... and they wouldn't take my email... that was over a week ago, and over 2 weeks for email. We were prepared to hire for 2 jobs. A huge party and a wedding for 200 people. Please get it together! Word of mouth with is HUGE, this could have been great opportunities. And IF I do get a call, I will be honest about how irritated the whole thing has been. Adams Ribs will now get our business. read more

Roger That BBQ is the best place to eat in West Salem HANDS DOWN! If you're not big on barbecue, they have other options - Sandwiches and such, and have also added Tacos and more appetizers (Fried Pickles are fantastic!) Get there on time or risk the whole of West Salem having already shown up, it's that popular. My family has been in West Salem forever and we haven't had a staple on this side of the bridge since the ol' Westgate Café closed down when I was a kid. Excellent bbq at an interesting location. I'm into BBQ in a big way. I smoke my own bbq. I make pulled pork, brisket and ribs. When I'm feeling lazy I go to BBQ joints. Roger that BBQ has not disappointed, other then the limited hours. I suspect that its because this is more of a side gig/hobby vs full time job for the owners. So far I've had the brisket tacos, wimpy burgers, and double smoked bacon cheddar links. All where fantastic large portion for the cost. I look forward to the spring and summer, and enjoying the bbq outside on the patio. read more
